TEA and consequences

Full story: The Deming Headlight

We have again arrived at what Barack Obama used to call the "silly season," a designation for election campaign time which formerly was from Labor Day to Election Day, but now, unfortunately, seems to last considerably longer.

Win, you convinced me - Republican vote it is! Keep up the good work.

And yes! Obama is a true socialist. Everything he has accomplished under his "change" platform has been a socialistic agenda. I watch what a person DOES, not the LIES that spew from their mouths, and his true goal is for this country to become socialistic, with big Government in control of every facet of our lives. The Dem spin is idiotic, and it isn't working any more, because people are being educated now and they see what the REAL Dem change agenda is all about. Thank God for the tea party movement!!!!!

"... the Tea Party is a mechanism which could possibly achieve destruction but it cannot achieve real change any more than the present majority in office, nor will it be allowed to. If you want the first lesson in understanding why, notice that the Tea Party is heavily funded by extremely wealthy multi-millionaires and billionaires, such as the Koch brothers and Rupert Murdoch."

This is just the kind of free-spending liberal rhetoric that is responsible for the creation of the tea party movement.I am neither republican or democrat in my thinking, but when i see what the democratic party and O'Bama has done to this nation, i have to agree with the direction the tea party is wanting to lead us. Bush is not to blame for all the problems this country is facing currently, in spite of what you, O'Bama, and the democrats want us to believe. This goes all the way back to FDR and some of the programs he and congress initiated. Businesses cannot function profitably with the government trying to control every aspect of everyday life.Don't blame the tea party for the mess both parties have created.

As usual you are right on the button, Mr. Mott. The future could not be clearer for all to see. Unfortunately, as the comments above prove once again, there are none so blind as those who CHOOSE not to see.
The nation needs to hit bottom hard before sanity MAY have a chance to return.
It is too bad that the most vulnerable will be hit the hardest and that includes the very lost but so very smug but ignorant posters above.
The dumbing down of the populace is working beautifully. Not only have the Big Corporations created strongly willing slaves but they have ensured that original thinking remains obsolete for generations to come.
What will happen if the TV breaks down? Will we be sitting there staring at the blank screen waiting for someone to push a button?

Mott as I see it.
You are the problem, not the solution.
Yeah I know it is Bush's fault.
But I think It is people like you that are at fault.
Your socialist thinking and all you want is the
destruction of the American way of life.
"God Bless America".

Jerry, when you write your letter to the editor, please remind Winn and his looney left friends of the unabashed, unchecked and totally biased election process of 2008.

Remind them that even NBC pulled their heroes Madcow, Madspews and Ubermann from their coverage of the campaign because of their bias. Remind them that we elected a President that was able to go unvetted through that same process. Remind them of the millions of schools in the thousands of school districts who allowed teachers and administrators to use their classrooms to indocrinate young minds. Remind them of the commentator who is on CNN now that "pissed down his leg". Remind them
that to this day no one knows where the hundreds of millions of dollars of outside support came from, or even where their President came from. Remind them that the process that was acceptable to the left, the one that registered dead voters, used Union thugs and Black Panthers to threaten voters, and found lost votes in trunks of cars everywhere, is the same process that Winn loves to criticize.

His reasoning is that the right has started to fight back , and its not fair. I find his incessant whining hilarious, just as I do the desparation that the news media and the left is showing now.

k.... here it comes My DEar Komrade Wynn... What you did't think Id let you slip in this "so-called-neutral" BS propagada your spouting again?

By the way readers...This by the way a Far Left Liberal named Wynn Mott does to try and pacify you to vote for his choices in this election. He will attempt to demonize anybody but a Democrat with his off-kilter comments.

Wynn will pi$$ you conservatives and moderates off all year long with his liberal rants, then come closer to election day, he whimpers at the thought that you may still vote for anything but a Democrat. Wynns motto has been and will be...Democrate or Dead...

A half aresed far left liberal Baptist minister obsessed with continuing to submit passive far left liberal agendas for all America and all Americans.

That is what you are Wynn, that is your only goal to continue pushing your BS propaganda and use the Deming Headlight to do it. Using the Deming Headlight as your pulpit sickens me as it should every American. Preaching from the press.

Look what your democratic friends have really done over the years Wynn and all your little "wynnie" followers employed by teh Headlight as well. Over spent and continue to overspend 'till the day they leave office, destroying any chance of jobs growth and buying 3 million dollars worth of Sh*t land for wild horses when all of us are strugging to meet our payday loans.

Get OUT of the local press Wynn. Stay with your animal friends and go up North and say a prayer for them friggn' horses running wild. They need a prayer with all that land they roam free on while others are faced with crushing debt, living in a trailer and hoping the 3 DEMOCRATIC County Commissioners won't condem the trailer or put them in jail for a weeds growing on the land they can no longer afford to own but have to rent because of the policies of the dAM NEW MEXICAN DEMOCRATS.

New Mexico, Land of the incumbent Democrat. Willing to change STATE LAWS SO THEY CAN RUN FOR THREE TERMS NOW! WATCH FOR THAT ONE ON THE BALLOT THIS TIME AROUND FOLKS! ITS THERE!

VOTE NO TO Wynn. Vote NO on three terms for politicains! Republican and Independant UNITE! Lets toss them on the street!

" With the new filibuster rule in the Senate allowing any senator to quietly but effectively block legislation unless it has overwhelming support,"

The new fillibuster rule?

When did the Democrat majority under Harry Reid in the senate pass that new rule?

I think it's the same fillibuster rule the Dems used when Bush was in the White House.

Will they ever learn?

Any game liberals can think up conservatives can learn to play.

Yes, Republican is the way to go. Never mind Bush started a couple wars, put $5 trillion on the national tab, created bigger govt with the Dept of Homeland Security, added a socialist prescription Medicare drug program (unfunded),bailed out Wall Street and oversaw the biggest downturn of the economy since the Great Depression. Yeah, Republicans do no wrong.

For fellow New Mexicans thinking of voting straight party tickets you're shortchanging some good folks. I will be voting Republican for most part but I do pay attention and NM does have a "few" proven Dems who I trust and would rather see in place than an unknown. Don't shortchange our state by thinking a Republican is better simply because they are Republican. Both parties have shown me, in general, lots of irresponsibility.

If Bush increased the national debt by 5 trillion Obama will add 10 trillion if he stays long enough.

Bush unquestionably spent too much money but Obama is making him look like a penny pincher.

Vote conservatives or you'll end up like Europe.

Bankrupt, Unions rioting in the streets because they may have to actually turn up for work, failing systems overburdened by a society full of parasites.

Europe's moving right because of big government failure, you should too. Pseudo socialists like Pelosi and Obama try to convince you government is the solution when it's the problem.

Right is right! Viva the revolution brothers and sisters!

You're absolutely right but general economic conditions are a key reason as tax receipt are down. Look around the country, almost every state and local govt is having deficit problems. Beyond the unemployed, lots of Americans are spending less and paying down debt. It's hit everyone. Doesn't help either that the interest on the national debt takes a bigger bite too. We have to get the deficit and and spending under control. The true political will is lacking regardless of what the Tea Party says.

You can't compare the two. Way different.
The power of unions in much of Europe is far greater than America's and European social benefits tend to much, much greater too. Some are plain ridiculous. I think its France that requires continued pay for two years "after" a worker is laid off. They also have low retirement ages, generous vacation time, limited work rules, etc. Very different than America. Europe does not have the workforce to sustain the benefits given the aging population.

The American Right is barely right of Left. They have proven thus far to be as incompetent as the Left. Both the Republicans and Democrats lack the political will to get serious about spending cuts. Bush even added fuel to the fire when he pushed the Medicare prescription drug program without provisions for funding. Thrown on the tab so he could get the senior vote granting him another four years. Right, Left, Republican, Democrat, bah not much of a difference in behaviors really.

State and local governments are bloated with too many workers making too much money and too much retirement benifits that the states cannot afford.

At the federal level income is down while spending is up.

We have to reverse those two numbers.

Which will hurt even more in the short run but we have to do it.

Depends on the state. I know my state (NM) is high when it comes to state/local govt workers to total population. It was highlighted some months back in the newspaper. But a good many aren't. The census has a report showing the ratios.

Retirement benefits is a ticking time bomb. There have been some articles recently talking about the unfunded liabilities of major cities and states and it isn't pretty. Cuts are needed. In most cases the cities and states simply need to raise the minimum retirement age or years required to retire plus start converting from defined benefit programs to 401ks for new employees. The federal govt switched to 401ks for all new employees back in 1982. Unions will be up in arms but oh well.

I'm with you. Even the lack of a COLA for social security doesn't bother me because its a cost we can't afford anyway.
