wow. boy, am I ever surprised. never saw THIS coming....from cops.(yawn)
Just to let you view how cutting edge I am, here's my re-post about this very subject that I made in the Carlsbad TOPIX last month about this perscription sham:
Billy the Squb said: Typical government worker: Not only do they got nothing better to do with their time than to tell YOU what to do with your own remedies that you own and would like to keep. Nope. They get DRAW A SALARY to nose into your bathroom.
Some malady keeps you or you kid up at night, so you've lost sleep. Then you shell out 300 bucks for an Emergency room visit. Then you shell out $90 more for prescriptions to cure it. NOW the frigging gub'ment says you're too dumb to be a steward of your investment. Why does that not surprise me? New Mexico, the next time some Sheriff Dept. or a government official launches a drive like this one, remember this phrase:

...so now the cops up the ante on ole' Billy the Squib. Not only do they con folks into submitting to the Badge, they steal LEGAL MEDICINES for illegal gain.
And don't let Baeza fob this guy off as just a shirt-tail reservist-only loosely affiliated with the Department. Kill him and you'd get the electric chair just the same as if you'd have killed any ole' cop - weather on the job or drunk and raising hell after hours.

How do they account for what is turned in? Do they inventory each persons donation and count the pills? This is a flawed program with no accounability. Its very sad that the LCSO has stated this is an isolated incidence. This is not a one time thing and this happens with the inventory they take from others as well. Large drug busts, property.
One safe way to get rid of unused expired medication is to put it in a bag, pound it with a hammer and mix it with old coffee grounds then put it in the trash. The dumpster divers don't take it and its not going to be an open book for your local LCSO to gossip about. Always take the label off of your empty medication bottle before you dispose of those. People should not be that helpless. How do they dispose of their new inventory once you turn it in to them?

My point is not getting across yet. Why do people lay down and turn in their own property that they paid for just because the gub'ment told them to do so?
The advertised tag-line in the paper always is, "Keep drug-feinds who happen to be both knowledgeable and addicticted to your old prescrips that you happen to ALSO be throwing out into the dumpster this week away from them."
Right. That's believable. How many drug addicts are lucky enough to stumble into dumpster after dumpster and score enough of whaterver to keep their addiction going? SERIOUSLY?
Plus the cop stealing for resale some crap....I don't even KNOW why I brought that up it's so UNSURPRISING to most people. The only reason a man hides behind a badge is because he can't admit to himself that he is not and will never be what people WITHOUT badges have always been.

Has anyone heard how they handled this member of our trusted law enforcement community?
Let me guess: Administrative leave WITH full benefits plus a gift-certificate to buzzy's bait shop come with that offence?
I don't know...this young officer ought'ta aim higher. The OTHER cop from Luna county who was busted for hauling a 100lbs bale of marijuana through a checkpoint got keys to the dept. bass-boat on his Administrative leave.

I know the paper has stated Cobos denies any corruption or knowledge of corruption in his department... is this not corruption in the LCSO?
Denial just won't make every one think its not a real problem. What do they do with the inventory and who keeps track of what was turned in?
Never turn your medications into a department that the FBI is investigating for drug smuggling. Would you give your medication to a complete stranger on the street? of course not. Then why would you give your un used medication to a complete stranger who wares a badge in a corrupt agency? Find out where the inventory list is and where did it realy go.
