I have a question, I try to keep the alley behind me clear of weeds but I have noticed that no one else does, well I take this back there are several of us that do, but as I look down the alley I can see that alot of my neighbors do not go out to these ally"s and cut their weeds. Is this part of the City's job or is it up to the home-owner to do so. Our ally's need some cleaning up badly!

The home owner is responsible from his property line to the middle of the alley, we have the same problem in our alley, on one side the weeds are over 6ft tall.

Can the city help the elderly who are widows/widowers and living on a fixed income every month to get rid of weeds? My Dad passed away and my Mom now has just one income coming in, she cannot afford to hire a professional to get rid of these tall weeds taking over her backyard. When we've been down to visit we cleared much of it but of course over the summer it came back. During the summer we'd call her and she would say she was in the yard working on the weeds. It is way too much for her. Any suggestions, can the city help? There is no way she can afford a fine.

I wonder what this CEO has been doing all this time, just sitting back collecting a paycheck yet there are people all over NM w/out jobs that wish they had a paycheck & on top of it all would be very willing to work for it! My family lives in Deming, and I have heard them comment about the way this CEO does his job (he cruises around the alleys picking at people that do keep their place clean & ignores others w/bad habits)because they might be his friends so if their yard is a mess & giving the neighborhood a bad appearance it doesn't matter because that person has The CODE ENFORCEMENT OFFICER (CEO) on his side...Go figure

I am all for residents taking the responsibility for the condition of thier yards. But am i the only one that sees weeds on city property all over town. How can they enforce a city ordenance that the city itself does not follow. This is our local government they need to set the example for citizens of Deming to follow before trying to selectively enforce rules, regulations or ordenances...

I take care of my yard, i don't need to be told to.

How about our local offical start taking cares of thier responsibilities whithout haveing to be told to by the citizens of Deming and Luna County...

Maybe they can call the church called victory outreach, I believe they will come out there and do this kind of stuff, if they dont they should, maybe there are some other churches here in town that might get out there and dirty their hands to help out the elderly. Hey maybe we can get mayor silva and his prissy wife to go cut weeds he is a servant of the people isnt he.

Never knew there was someone in charge of this being paid to do nothing ! I have only been here a year and a half and I have been looking all over the city to see where I might buy , so I run the roads every weekend as many as 30 miles a day IN the city. I see some of the most disgusting things no one doing anything about

It's a shame this wasn't enforced during the month of August so our town would look nice for the Duck Races when many tourists and people from out of town come for the festivities. I was saddened to especially see many of the downtown businesses with weeds all over their properties. Some even from our elected officials. No pride what so ever in the City of Deming. Now you go to Hatch,Silver City, or Las Cruces and see the difference. Its a joy to go shopping there or for the day to these towns. Code Enforcer do your job. How about the people collecting unemployment. One or two hours a week to cut weeds then they could get a check. Just a thought.

Pat yourself on the back. I too take care of my yard but what about all the city property they have annexed into city limits these past few years. Look around out in the industrail park, by the interstate on the city side of fence along the new street that was recently built, out by the cattle sale barn, north east of town by the riverbed they annexed. There are a lot of places of the city that is a big mess. The ecomomy is down the tubes and NOW they want to take the food out of our mouth too. What has the code inspector been doing since spring that so many places have gotten out of control? Oh, its election time and everyone woke up and wants to prove they are worth keeping. Ok, hide the weeds until after election then it will be back to out of sight out of mind.
Problem is if you remove the weeds you have blowing dust that can't be held down therefore you have errosion if you don't have have potential fire hazard.

I do not mind keeping my weeds cleaned up in the City. I would not clear several acres for saftey reasons. What I do not get is why the code officer allows election signs to be placed in the City right-of-ways. There are election signs blocking visability in City right of ways. Not smart and not safe. Do they not know their own rules and regulations?

Of course the city ordinances, this one included, can only be enforced upon those who can afford to pay the city a fine. That eliminates many residents.

Unfortunately, it also provides an excuse for selective enforcement as we see in the county all the time.

Thank you! That was gonna be my question. My Dad is 89 years old and lives by himself there. Are the "trash and weed police", gonna help him get rid of trash and weeds others dump on his property. He is on oxygen can't walk or drive very far.Much less hoe weeds and pick up trash that blows into his yard. His place should never have been put inside the city limits anyway. It's in the country where the wind blows trash, for God's sake! So what's gonna be done for people in this situation? I hope the "trash police", for people like my Dad. He's on a very small income and we live 2000 miles away. So who's gonna help him?

How about those people on welfare that are young and healthy? I say, work for your money, the state hands out so quickly to you. Or maybe, like they do here, take the people in jail, for small offences, and let them chop and pull weeds, and pick up trash for their stay in your jail. Under armed guards of course. It works well here.

Pull the weeds you get dust, and people complain about the blowing dust, let them stay, you get fined. Most of the trash from properties that was annexed into the city, comes from people in vehicles throwing it out more times than not.

the alley to our business is clean for the most part but there is one man who will cut his grass and his weeds and his trees in his yard and will come and lean all his garbage against our wall. i have moved it to his side before to find it back on our side the next day. we called the city to have this problem fixed and sometime that week it was fixed but this man continues to do this time n time again. bout a month ago it was piled up high and it took the city to come pick it up or do something bout it for the first time this yr. it is frustrating to go throw our trash and to see someone elses branches and leaves and grass etc. on our side of the alley. what do we need to do?

Report the man to the Code Enforcer and if he doesn't take care of it then do as the Code Enforcer would say "talk to your neighbor about the problem and try to solve it yourself.
