Yeah I remember when we would go trick or treating after we got out of school, and if I'm not mistaking we had like 5 hours of trick or treating, these kids only get an hour 1/2! and they can't start until a certain time.... I know the world is different now and there is alot of sick people out there, so make the time earlier or a little later as long you have an adult with you, because by the time the kids get out of school, get homework done and the parents have to make dinner and eat dinner it is like 6:30 then they have to get there costumes on, thats like 7pm they get out the door! They only get am hour or less to go out, been there done it with my kids and it wasn't fun. So take it into consideration by making it earlier or a little later like 9pm. yeah make it 5:30 to nine.

I agree with the other posters. Halloween, bit by bit, is being eliminated. I'm just glad to see MOST places are actually trick or treating ON or the day before Halloween. It annoys me to no end when you see towns trick or treating 3 or 4 or 5 days before Halloween... Halloween is Halloween.. We don't celebrate Christmas on a different day of the week because we don't like the day it falls on.. why do it to Halloween?? It's stupid.
And the limited hours? It's insane. No kid can see end to end in their town, including walking time, in only an hour in a half. Kids see friends, they talk, they walk slower in costumes.. With parent supervision, a few more HOURS wouldn't hurt anyone as long as they remain in eye sight of adults. MOST adults take their kids trick or treating anyway, so all we're doing is giving these kids more time to BE KIDS, have fun and enjoy Halloween! Not to mention I'm sure some parents would be happy knowing their child could enjoy the costume they spent so much money on for more than a mere 90 minutes...

Some town event organizers need to sit back and take a look at how Halloween is done now as opposed to when we were kids... and fix it.

When did people get so hypersensitive over Halloween? It's not a real holiday. It's just an excuse for kids to dress up and get candy. Who freaking cares when it is???

Halloween is Sunday this year! So why are the communities changing the day to Tuesday, Wednesday or other days other then Halloween. Let these kids have fun. And add a few more hrs. We did it as kids, 3 to 4 hrs, and got lots of candy and treats, it was fun. Too many restrictions, let the kids be kids.
Thanks

Yes it is, or at least it used to be. We've secularized it to the point of near extinction, and the "religious" people have forgotten the origins of a Church festival that is definitely not Satanic in nature.

As parents, most of us "care" because our kids do... That alone makes it a "real" holiday. Also, it would be good for you to know that, to some people, it is the celebration of Samhain. For those of us who are considered Christian, it is also a celebration of the year's harvest.

Thank you,

Shirley

I couldn't agree more!! Kids just aren't allowed to be little or have fun anymore.. Maybe we need to start a movement in the right direction through our government and school systems. We keep taking so much away from our children, and then we wonder why ENTIRE classes are medicated for ADD/ADHD and/or so many kids are overweight now... I contend it is because they aren't allowed to be kids like we were and try to fight that daily on the homefront.

Halloween is always the 31st - Trick or Treat causes lots of problems, though!

Halloween should be on Oct. 31st. The spirit of the holiday requires it. Halloween is the most nostalgic holiday, maybe with the exception of Christmas. Growing up, we looked forward to the date, we counted down the days, and watched scary movies that referenced the night.
Furthermore, it seems we are trying to sterilize our children by not permitting them to be outside past dark, or are scaring them (not in the festive sense) into believing that we shouldn't be trick-or-treating at night. All of the start times are between 5 and 6, and they end by 7 or 8. I am a law student at OSU, and thus, not far removed from my trick or treating years, and part of the fun was running around at NIGHT time. It added to the mystique. Just a few short years ago, it seemed the holiday was celebrated later in the evening.
Many people seem to want to "preserve Christmas". Well I say we should preserve Halloween! Come on Congressmen...who will take a pro-Halloween stance?
