just to let ya'll know it is just as bad here in Arizona. all the doctors want to do is push pills.
I had a dentist last week try to convince me i needed pain killers after getting a tooth pulled. 3 times I told him NO! he said "i'll write it for 800mg. of something" I asked him if he was trying to kill me. No wander so many people are hooked on drugs.

People that do not have chronic pain, will never understand what life is like living in that condition. Throwing out 'go to detox' is a very illiterate thought.
Just ask someone with chronic migraines.
First, if the Dr's will not prescribe enough, you are not addicted. Addiction fuels a continual increase. Most Dr.s do not and will not prescribe enough out the gate. They are in fear of the DEA smashing down their doors and revoking their license to practice. The DEA (gov) Drug Czar sets the amount to prescribe. It is not based scientifically but arbitrarily, of what they THINK you will need, which is always way less than a person needs. Many Dr's strongly disagree with the 'guidelines' because they cannot correctly treat their real chronic pain patients.
And flippantly saying go to detox accomplishes what? The pain is real and still there. Not using enough pain meds doesn't cause pain or addiction it hinders the relief.
Pain management doesn't exist. One can live with pain and endure a miserable life; no one can 'manage pain' as if mind over matter will accomplish anything.
Because some fools are criminal in their behavior regarding pain meds, doesn't mean restriction and rationing are a logical alternative to those who really do need it.
A portion of RX drugs will always make it to the streets no matter what. Punishing the legit users is just plain nuts.
People use the same argument regarding administering morphine to cancer and other chronic pain patients also..."they'll get addicted".
If those same people spent just one day in severe chronic pain, they'd be on the floor crying like a baby begging for relief.
Very well said. I take oxycontin for chronic pain, and I have no clue why anyone would be addicted to them...does nothing for me but help make my life manageable on a daily basis.
One of the pain clinics I went to, doctor said to me "you won't die from chronic pain".
No, I won't die from chronic pain but I wish I would without meds. Yet, he proceeded to want to put me on other meds in addition to doubling the dosages of my current ones. I never went back. I wanted to live life not be comatose.
Problem with the legit doctors is that if anyone of their patients gets caught with it, they are notified and it goes on their records. So, they try to push you onto these "pain" clinics.
Somedays, I get so angry. I know there are meds out there that can help me live a good full life but because of govt interference I am limited. Addicts will always be here, it's not right to withhold the medications from the legit pain sufferers because of them.

Bill, you are not very educated with the war on drugs. yes, the dr.'s write the meds, but the patient is the one who swallows, snorts, or bangs it. I for one, DO NOT blame the dr.'s. Yes, some write way too many, but that does not mean you have to consume them all in a weeks time. Those kind of ppl are out there looking to get a buzz or are selling their meds. some dr.'s are all about the money, BUT STILL, THE PT NEEDS TO TAKE IT THE RIGHT WAY. just remember BILL, DOCTOR'S WRITE SCRIPTS, THE PATIENT IS IN CONTROL AFTER THAT. THE PATIENT IS ALWAYS ASKED AT THE PHARMACY, "DO YOU NEED ANY QUESTIONS ANSWERED ABOUT YOUR MEDICATIONS?" I never consume every pain pill I receive every month. A person in chronic pain takes as needed and then sometimes wait till the pain gets worse, just to make sure they have enough to last till next appointment. DOCTOR'S DO NOT KILL

I feel bad that there are people out there that make it impossible for someone living in pain to recieve adequate pain control. You have a very few Dr.s that will prescripe any type of pain medication, beleieve me I know, I have been living with chronic pain for 14 yrs. with no end in sight, unfortunately due to the few who abuse pain medication people that need it can't get it SAD SAD WORLD
I feel your pain, literally.

I used to prosecute for the Board of Medicine and there was a sort of anti-drug mindset there dating back to the late 80's.

I saw MANY cases of physicians overprescribing narcotics, and pretty much all of them were pain clinics in south or central Florida. But I also saw a lot of docs get into trouble because they were being second-guessed by people who didn't know the patient.

Having a chronic pain issue myself (and no pills at all), I have a new perspective on this. Sometimes I am in severe pain and OTC meds will not stop it. But I cannot get proper pain meds, not because of anything having to do with me (I'm very low-risk), but because the doctors are scared to prescribe - even to people who really need it.

Well I can say that i live in ga and the doctors here suck...i mean if you are in pain well you are screwed..i have a friend who lives with pain for over ten years..i have never dont drugs...looked down on people who did etc etc...but i have learned in my stupidity that chronic pain is REAL..and drug dealer are after money...but if you can get help from a doctor than do what you must...its hard to live a normal life when you cant walk...shake someones hand...do anything that you stupid people who sit back and throw off on someone who cant...what would you do right now if all of a sudden you lost use of a limb and people stared at you??? or talked about you behind you back and felt sorry for you??? If a pain made it possible for you to be normal and be happy then shut the hell up and leave people alone that are trying to live the life you have..its nothing to you what they do...are the putting a pill in your mouth?? is it money out of your pocket? not its not....so yea if someone know of any drs. let me know also...i agree with legit doctors also ...but them people who sit on a soap box and have no real idea what they are talking about because they have never experienced it .....you need to just shut up....

Keep well clear of anything or anyone that looks like being a problem, but at least you can hold your own. This is a marvellous day for taking care of someone who isn't very well at the moment or who needs all the sympathy and understanding you can give them.
