I smoked pot with Redmond 25 years ago in Huntington park. There were 3-4 of us at the top of the hill just under the fence. He snuck up on us and gave a "Boo!". Then he proceeded to grab the joint out of my brothers hand and take a huge rip, he obviously had never smoked before lmao........ There was only one good cop on the OPD in the decades I spent there. RIP Rick buddy.

IT'S FUNNY THAT THIS "bad cop" AS YOU CALL HIM RECEIVED OFFICER OF THE YEAR AWARD 2011. HE DOES HIS JOB WELL AND DESERVES A DAY OFF JUST LIKE EVERYONE ELSE.

Officer Chris Catapano is one of the worst.
While I have never been personally targeted by the police I have heard countless stories about this particular officer abusing his power and harassing college students.
I have also seen him, on nights off, getting drunk down at the Sip & Sail and flirting with all the underage college girls.
I don't think the Oneonta Police Force is made up entirely of bad cops, but its officers like Chris Catapano that give it its bad reputation.

First of all, stop yelling.

Second, Officer Catapano arrested me a few years ago without cause. He lied throughout the police report to make the charge stick. I was sober, but he probably didn't know that. Maybe that's why he thought if he harassed me enough, he would get a rise out of me. Fortunately, I'm smarter than that. Based on my personal experience, the guy is scum. I was visiting Oneonta and will never return because of Catapano and officers like him. Pathetic.

Of course, I can't prove any of this. But think about it. Why would I make random accusations if I wasn't wronged?

I just don't feel safe anymore with my children growing up here. I can't trust the police and now I can't trust our elected leaders to actually stand up for me.
Who do I turn to?
I would suggest Smith and Wesson or Remington

it used to be police officers were your freind and would help out people. Now they just are about making arrests so they think the higher the number the better they are. Parents have to train there children to interact with the police as little as possible. Always ask for a lawyer before engaging in even minimal conversation with one. The police can do you great legal harm and would enjoy doing so. They are not your freinds.

My son was arrested by the police when he went to school here. He was picked up at someone's home for a party and was actually not read his rights, was not allowed to recieve any phone call, and wasn't let go for an entire day.
I know you can hold people for 24 hours, but you can't just hold them to hold them, you have to have a reason or "probable cause" to hold them.
My son was just at a party, he wasn't a drug dealer or a violent criminal, he was a 20 year old with a beer in his hand.
CORRUPT!
He was probably drunk and playing the fool.

There was a bunch of students waiting around yesterday by the apartments downtown, about 40 of them all fighting a group of other kids. I saw 3 police cars drive past and not do anything.
What is their job? Write tickets to make money or to protect us?
They were just rough housing. No need for police involvement ... no crime committed.

The officer of year award is all smoke and mirror fake. They give out these awards so when they get into the spot light when they do some wrong ... they can say this officer is well thought of and high decorated. There is not a cop out there who doesn't have one of these phony awards.

Two officers actually came into my apartment two weeks ago and without me letting them in, they entered without a warrant. They said they were there for a "complaint" about a fight, that I had been hit by my boyfriend, and after telling them to leave and that nothing had happened, they proceeded to open my bedroom door and look around.
That is completely illegal! No one can defend or justify that! Even if I had been hit, I HAVE TO SAY THAT FOR THEM TO ACT!!!
This is crap and this needs to end! I think I am going to contact the NY times or Times Union and see what they think about it.
do you know the names of the officers involved?

I remember last year when they took in and harassed the professor interviewing for a job at SUCO. There only description of the suspected theif was a black male.
They immediately took him and treated him as a suspect, just because he was black.
These guys need to take a diversity class or something.
The professor had an agenda and intentionally proved the police. I don't usually take the police side but they were right in this case. The professor was thinking he was above it all ... then played the race card to make it seem unjust to bear the consequences of his actions. He was a fool in this case but his ego won't let him admit it.

Anyone can say that he was a jerk and deserved it, perhaps he did. But this is America and if that happened to your friend or kid or whatever, you would be outraged that an officer of the law hit someone without any real provocation.
Cops are no good. If they have the slightest way they can abuse you they do it. They always climb to the top of the mountain.

Catapano was said to be doing some strange stuff in his police vehicle and several complaints were investigated. It was rumored he was m*****bating while on duty. He also supposedly kept asking the pizza parlor girl out to the point of harassment.

Pondolfino takes the job seriously and is usually a very fair officer. He is well thought of and not a fabricator or evidence planter.
