I am confused. Let's say for a minute that StartCop is correct and that money was taken from the dept. What does that have to do with any of the other candidates? Fleming is not running, McDonald is not running. Gary Gilley is and Thompson may be. But what does this have to do with Gilley or Thompson. Let's move on already.

At least Willie and his supporters have not participted in the trash and burn seen on here. He might be a breath of fresh air before it is over. Might need to start a "Draft Willie Campaign"

Willie won't have to be drafted, he is going to run. While all of these fourms are being discussed or whatever, Willie, has been doing the same thing he's been doing for the last 30 yrs. protecting and serving. he is considered to be one of the best lawmen in the state. His qualifications will match or exceed anyone that's running. He is well respected in his field, and you will hear him running!

I will forever believe that Charles Mcdonald was the best sheriff that Richland parish has ever seen. But for his replacement, I am stuck between a couple of candidates. If only Carl Harwell from around Mangham was running for office. I believe he would almost be as satisfactory as Charlie Mac himself.

Lennie Graham IS the man!!! He comes from a line of excellent lawmen!!! Everyone loved and respected Mr. Lorell Graham as sherriff and Lennie grew up right under his daddy's guidance! People really need to look into Gilley's background and maybe they will see that the signs on the road are the only thing he has a lot of because it's sure not experience!! Just saying!!!

Gary Gilley is going to be the next sheriff of Richland Parish. Gilley has the unyielding support of the sheriff's dept. He has handled himself well in the short time he has been with the Dept. And even on this very negative forum, he has not been linked to any wrongdoing. Worst thing anyone has said is that he is connected to Fleming but he is smarter than that. He has a good personality and treats people well. He is going to be a good sheriff and Terry Thompson will probably remain chief until he is ready to retire.

I gave an opinionated answer to the name of this thread. And I talked positive about a candidate and so far have attacked no other candidate or poster including you. Gilley has a strong campaign going. He is the only candidate that has ever run a business. He has the support of the department, he has been working and soliciting the black community for two years now, going to their churches and functions. He pretty much has them locked down. He will have the support of most hard core democrats. The people will vote and Gilley will be sheriff on July 1, 2012.

Reality, I appreaciate your opinion, and every one hs one, but i think you are bad wrong if you think Gilly is going to get the black or democratic vote. And he dose have a strong support among the dept. if you ask the right ones. It is not so if you ask the other 50%. As for him being the only one ever running a business you may be right also,i don't know,I would like to know if it was sucessful, why did he go to work for the detention center as a guard? What has Willie been doing the last 10 yrs? He has been running a very sucessful police dept. This sherrif race has't even started yet for some, I would remind you of the last presidential election, it was the white vote that got him elected, plus most of the black.

And just when was the last time a Richland Candidate defeated the Department Favorite?
I can argue NEVER. The Dept will get the votes out and that includes the black vote even with Willie in the race. Gilley might even win in the primary.

Reality, that's where you are wrong. Sheriff Graham defeated the then Chief Deputy by a very wide margin. Look it up or ask around and you will find this to be true. Graham did not have the support of the department then. And no way anyone wins this one in the primary, just ain't happening. And by the way, Graham not only defeated the Chief Deputy but a former sheriff in the election of 1983.

Whodat, alright give me a history lesson here because, I thought Bubba Thomason was elected in 1983 and Graham beat the chief deputy in 1987. The 1987 race was in my mind when I said I could argue NEVER. Because that deputy never had the majority of the support of the department and Lorell was very popular everywhere.

Well, Lorell as u say was elected in 1983. He defeated the Chief Deputy and Thomason in that race. And what's bad is this one is turning out to be a popularity contest and not on qualifications. And by that I mean law enforcement qualifications and nothing else. I know who I'm for and that man has years of law enforcement experience. Nothing will change my mind about that. In my opinion there are 3 men running that have been lifelong police officers and the rest have not been in police work long enough to be qualified to be Sheriff. Just my opinion, not that it matters.
