Most people would have the common sense that, when asked to leave, they wouldn't try to fight with the deputies nor threaten to get a gun out of their car. I commend the deputies for their action! Now days you cannot take a threat with a grain of salt.. you need to act upon it. After all, they gave him at least 3 chances to leave and he wouldn't.

You are stupid. The old man is on a cane, 4" build up shoe, and four men beat him to the ground and did not cuff and then did it again. The police screwed up on this one.

And you are stupid to even think that the guy did nothing wrong. I guess our Sheriff's department has nothing better to do than prey on unsuspecting older citizens with a cane?

Before the conflict began, Me. Runyon threatened to go to his car and get a gun and take care of all of them. This is when the deputies escorted him back down the hall, Mr Runyon cursing and threatening all the way, and then lifted his cane to swing at the deputy. Then and only then did the deputies restrain him.

Mr. Runyon did not have a gun, he did not threaten anyone and Loonie Lonnie Hannah supporter you need to get your facts straight.

YOU were not there. You don't know what happened.

Lonnie Hannah is the biggest hack that ever hit Mingo County. He is a fcuk up for a sheriff, his whole department is nothing but THUGS, theives and dope addicts.

RUN don't walk to your closest voting booth and kick Lonnie Hannah OUT of this county.

Lonnie does NOT care for you or anybody.

Lonnie stood by watched this BEATING. The man was leaving, it's obvious on the tape he was NOT A THREAT to a whole gaggle of sheriff.

Lonnie can kiss the courthouse goodbye. He's toast.

But then again, those deputies learned from the master. Didn't he beat the hell out of Darlene just not too long ago?

Obvious ploy by Lonnie and his band of thugs .. how better to cover your arses after you got caught on video than saying "oh by the way, he threatened to get a gun" .. never heard of a gun before the Lonnie Hannah supporter showed up.

Convenient huh.

Lonnie is afraid, he is desperate, so he will want to muddy up the water now on this beating.

Won't work. It's all in the open now and you can't "cover" this up like you did all the other shit done by your band of thugs.

It's clear your parents should of used a coat hanger, or your mother should of swallowed.

He DID NOT threaten ANYONE with getting a gun. The tape was NOT "altered/edtied".

I'd like to jerk your ass and the fat, bald Deputy's ass to the floor.

They got caught. Live with it dumbass!

Courthouse incident ends in arrest

WILLIAMSON - A verbal altercation that allegedly ensued between a Delbarton resident and Mingo Sheriff Lonnie Hannah resulted in an arrest on charges of battery on a police officer.

According to the police report from Mingo County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Joe Smith, Arvil Lee Runyon, 57, of Varney, came into the sheriff’s office to speak with Sheriff Hannah about a vehicle that was reportedly impounded that belonged to a family member.

During the discussion, Runyon allegedly became irate and is said to have begun using profanity.

Hannah asked Runyon to leave the office because of his verbal outbursts. Sgt. Smith proceeded to escort Runyon down the hall from the office, toward the door of the courthouse.

According to Smith, the defendant once again began swearing loudly. The verbal exchange is then reported to have become physical, when Runyon allegedly shoved Smith in the chest area, and is also said to have raised his metal cane at Smith in a threatening manner.

Runyon walks with the assistance of a cane, due to serious injuries he sustained in an automobile accident approximately one year ago.

Smith said that Runyon was surrounded by a total of three officers and a court bailiff in a matter of minutes, and had to be restrained with handcuffs. He was then taken to magistrate court where, after investigation and deliberation between Magistrate Dallas Toler, Smith and Prosecutor C. Michael Sparks, he was released after being arraigned on one count of battery on a police officer.

The defendant paid a $500 fine and court costs.

“No matter what the situation, you cannot threaten or assault someone wearing a badge,” said Sparks.“It’s always best to approach these situations with a cool head to try to avoid something like this from happening.

“Sgt. Smith handled the situation in a professional and calm manner.”

“I try hard to prevent problems before they occur,” said Smith.“We gave the defendant every opportunity to just walk away.

“But in this situation, it was apparent that Mr. Runyon wasn’t going to leave the courthouse calmly.”

“All I wanted to do was talk to the sheriff, and he had no business talking down to me the way he did. I got angry, anyone would have,” said Runyon as he was exiting magistrate court.

Lt. Randy Hatfield and Deputy Mike Miller assisted Smith with the arrest. Unless other charges are instated against Runyon, the case is closed.

Now, if he were innocent, why did he plead guilty??

And if he were beaten to the ground by sheriff's deputies, why isn't he suing the sheriff's department? That's the first thing any person would do. The pieces of this puzzle are not fitting. And the video I saw on You Tube doesn't seem to indicate the man was beaten to the ground.
lawsuit filed

Mr. Runyon has filed a lawsuit in Federal Court in Charleston against Lonnie and his thugs. True, call up there to see. So sad. There are 2 videos on Youtube, I do not see anything he did to deserve that, so good luck to you Mr. Runyon!
