The current heat index values in the Tulsa metro area are at their highest levels since 2001. 2 pm readings are 110 at Tulsa International Airport and 111 at Jenks Riverside Airport. The reason is the absurdly high dewpoint of 79 at both sites thanks to all the rain during the past week.

So true. I lived in Georgia for awhile and Oklahoma has nothing on the summer there.

Normal July high in Atlanta is 89. Normal July high in Tulsa is 94. Dewpoints normally are just about a wash between the two, although with all the rain lately, we currently have the upper hand there as well. The only place in the entire U.S. with dewpoints as high as eastern Oklahoma this afternoon was parts of far east central and northeast North Carolina...and their temps stayed a few degrees cooler than ours. Eastern Oklahoma saw the highest heat indices in the U.S. today.

Wow, things have changed when I lived in Georgia, it seemed that is where the heat indexes were the highest. Of course that was almost forty years ago.

I know Louisiana and Florida have hellacious humidity and heat. It may only be around 87 degrees in those places, but it feels like a steam bath.
