I just checked AEP's outage map and I added up over 100,000 people in Ohio without power. Channel 10 only told us about central Ohio, there are massive power outages north east of Columbus in Stark county too.

All of these power outages do not speak well of AEP's tree trimming program. It also does not speak well of stupid people who plant trees where they interfere with utilities.

Hope they get it back on quickly. I worry about old people and children especially. Please no fires from space heaters.

Last night around 9:30 PM, an ice encrusted tree limb fell from a tree in my son's backyard, hit the electric service cable which pulled it completely away from the house. The line is live and is now draped across the fire pit in their backyard. They are completely without power in their home.

Son called AEP, they said to call 911, who told him to call AEP.

Understandably AEP is very busy right now, and when he called - he had to report his problem via an automated voicemail menu. The menu does not permit a caller to explain anything other than they are without power. This is a serious situation and they needed help asap.

I had also reported the problem through 1 800 277 2177, which was a number published on AEP's website. You cannot talk to a real person, only leave a message constructed through their menu. When I got to the point where I was given an option to leave additional information, the call was disconnected. Subsequent calls from my son to AEP had the same result.

A little bit ago, he was looking out his window and saw the AEP truck driving down his street. He tried to get them to stop and ending up having to run after the truck to ask for help. They told him they would need to come back. At least he got to talk to a real person!

I think AEP's outtage complaint system needs to be tweaked big time. I wonder how many others had a serious situation like this that has virtually been ignored. What if a child wanders into his backyard and touches that downed LIVE line??

I expected better customer service than this during an emergency from AEP. Very disgusted with them right now.

News flash: I'm sure there are live lines down everywhere. A single residential line in a backyard is a low priority, there are probably a whole lot of these right now. Downed lines in the roadway and the larger area service lines are a much higher priority. Not touching a downed line is a basic rule of life. No child has any business wandering yards in this type of weather anyway.

Read a book, help someone out who is worse off than yourself. Stuff like that. Hope your cable isn't out too long you may actually have to use some brain cells. However by reading your post it may be too late for that. Good luck to you.

Most of the trees in the wires behind our street grew naturally.

AEP reported record profits the past few years; are you telling me that they couldn't have planned for situations like this? When will they plan on putting the wires underground? Of course, if they do that...the customers will have to fork over the cost and they'll start in the Dublin or Upper Arlington area first!!:(
I think they will fork over the cost of all the overtime to fix it this time to the consumers...just so they can keep their profit!!
