The 2012 Library annual report states the total operating expense of the library as $1,599,225, with salary being the biggest expense at $789,837. There are only 27,496 cardholders in 2012 according to the report. Is it really worth $1,599,225 to operate and fund the library instead of using Google? Should salaries be 50% of the operating budget? Somebody must be overpaid!

The bulk of the money spent on salary most go to mgmt, most staff make less the $12 per/hr and are part time status. The salary expenses should decrease in 2013 due to retirements and the Asst. Director position going unfilled after the Asst Director resigned.

I would like to see the MJT do an article on the salary of the Library employees like they did with the County employees awhile back, I think the taxpayers would be surprised at how overpaid some of the Mgmt is when compared to their qualification and skills. One example would be the HR/IT Manager not having and formal or profeesional trainig in eith field to my knowledge.

According to their annual report on their website, their revenue is $1,540,960 but their expenses are $11,599,225, their expenses are almost $60,000 more then their revenue! Maybe it is time to reduce that huge salary budget and get rid od some dead weight, if you have people in position who are not qualified, fire them!

So why is this HR/IT manager have that position? This needs to be explained to the taxpaper if that is true.

The new Director has only been in charge a few months and already has a levy on the ballot for an increase of our hard earned money.

hey genius, according to the paper the new director started just 2 weeks ago. Another fun fact, the levy doesn't just magically appear on the ballot buddy, it does it every 4 years. So for you to say the new director has been in charge 'for months' and that he put 'the levy on the ballot' you are misinformed and wrong. leave the library be, it does wonders for this community. If you do not agree then vote no and stay away from the library....just do not come here to cry and whine bearing falsities.

You are awful defensive, are you the new Director? I think the operating budget is too much considering what the Library offers the community. Most of what the Library offers can be done on Google. Is there really a need for a Library with the internet available at your fingertips?

Have you even looked at a library newsletter? A lot more to offer then google. A public library is a good thing and you cannot convince me otherwise.

Why does the new director need a 50% increase in the levy to do the same things as the old director?

Randy needs the extra funds to purchase new ash trays and to hire a groundskeeper to pick up all of Chris's and Sue's cigarette butts.

I would be interested in reading that article as well , I would think that an HR/IT manager would have the formal training and credentials from an accredited university to hold that position.

You people are silly. Who in the world is going to have training/credentials for HR *and* IT, and why would a small facility like the Marysville library need either? Maintain a couple of PCs and run payroll for two dozen people, if that.

New Army Groom Rules: No Officer Stripes for Too-Tattooed Soldiers
Updated: Friday, March 21 2014, 02:00 PM EDT
(Washington Times)-- The U.S. Army has a new rule book for grooming standards and among the just-released caveats: No commissions for enlisted members who sport more than four visible tattoos below their elbows or knees — no exceptions.

Enlisted members with more than four tattoos that can be seen below either elbow or knee cannot be granted their requests to move into the commissioned officer ranks, even if they had their body art before the new rules were formed, Army Times reported.

“They are not grandfathered,” the media outlet said.

The new grooming standards were leaked online on Thursday. The rules themselves, approved March 6 by Army Secretary John McHugh, are due to take effect in just a few days.

Among the rules: Sideburns cannot extend beneath the bottom of the ear canal. Tattoos are not allowed on members’ faces, heads, necks and hands, and sleeve tattoos or arms and legs are banned. Tattoos that are visible can’t be larger than the person’s hand. And commanders will now have to perform annual checks on their charges to check for any new tattoos that violate the new policy, Army Times reported.

Others rules include an allowance for female soldiers to wear their hair in ponytails during physical training, and one for all to carry plain black umbrellas while wearing “service, dress and mess uniforms,” Army Times said. Those wearing field or utility uniforms are still prohibited from using umbrellas, however.

The new regulations hearken back to pre-2006 days, when the military watered town standards — especially on tattoos — to grow ranks, senior officials said to Army Times.
