I have lived in delano for a few years now and would like to speak up on what delano needs...first of all the children need activities, movies, roller scateing ring something for them to do...there needs to be more food banks for the needy, and delano needs a homeless shelter..im not aware of one but ive seen plenty enough people sleeping on the side of the roads..also in the court house..there needs to be a probation officer that the accused can deal with..as far as i see it is just the police the judge agianst the defendent...so city of delano...why not invest in these ????

What delano needs is for its residents to quit asking for food banks and handouts. What needs to be done is that people need to stop depending on city or goverment to help them out. What happend when everyone pulled there own weight? Quit waiting for handouts. If people stopped drinking, doing drugs and stop throwing money away at the local casinos, mabe they would have enough money to support the family. Calfornia is broke because people dont want to work...get your butts upand go look for a job! Stop welfare, ebt, unemployment, medi-cal, wic, and I bet people will start to look for jobs real quick!!!!!

Drugs drugs and more drugs is all you hear. That's not the issue here FYI there are drugs everywhere. What Delano needs is a better panel of members for the city of Delano including the mayor. They can't even take the initiative to improve living conditions for its own community by creating more businesses for those unemployed to get jobs. Delano really needs to think outside the box and start developing ways to better Delano's image. What ever happened to the block H project that was suppose to be built years ago? That would have created hundreds of jobs for people living here thus bringing revenue to the city of Delano. However, it always comes down to funds and the city of Delano claims there's no "money' to make it happen. Well, as a former employee for city of Delano, there are ways of allocating funds to improve living conditions here. Roads need fixing, businesss on main street needs a makeover, huge vacant lot on Glenwood street left empty after what Delano was supposed to build a promenade with a cinema theater in that location...the list goes on and on. What the city wont disclose to the public is they don't want to invest money for its own community. Instead they would rather hire more police officers to patrol the streets. How is that going to generate revenue for Delano? If you ask me, there are quite a few 'crooked' officers roaming the streets of Delano. From my stand point as a former employee for the city of Delano, the council members as well as the mayor, are full of corruption. It's a "I'll scratch your back and you scratch mines" way within closed doors. There's a lot more to this but I'm keeping it short and minute. So you see, its not the people within the community's fault why the poverty and unemployment rate is inclining...its the council members failure to recognize our problems and provide solutions to the city of Delano. They have no idea what its like living in a hard economy nor know what its like to live off paycheck by paycheck struggling with ends meet. So cut the crap and let's face it..even our neighboring city of Porterville is much smaller than Delano yet, there are a vast variety of merchant stores and restaurants and may I say its way cleaner and well kept as opposed to our own city? Crime rate for Porterville is 39% avg. per year vs 82% for Delano. Council members for Porterville are far more experienced than that of ours here. City helps its community where in return the community helps the city...wish I could say the same for Delano.
