Whether this broad was on phone or not negligent driving should be enough to convict for involuntary manslaughter. Maybe not a life sentence but maybe 5 years have her reflect on her irresponsibility as a driver.....even revoking her license. Not allowing her to continue to drive. Shes going to be even more of a mess now. Delano should get together demand our funding be spent on more street lamps and visible crosswalks. How many citizens have to b dragged by vehicles at nite on crosswalk off of cecil and clinton. Its so dark at night. All this damn police doing nothing but harass citizens on bs tickets versus patrolling school zones.

I think the little girl should have waited for the truck to pass by because it was a 250 ford with tallass wheels like duh how couldn't you see that o.0 & I know the driver , the little girl was texting too and walking with her little brother her brother could of pulled her outta the way or that girl could screamed or something ?!
It's appalling that you're blaming an innocent child who sadly is no longer with her family! Please have some respect. The fact of the whole matter is that a child is gone and the driver was the cause of her death. Whether the driver was distracted, not paying attention, or simply did not see her, she had no business driving a huge lifted truck that obstructed her view! Due to this tragic incident, changes need to be made at the local and state level. The city of Delano is obligated to keep the community safe especially our children by decreasing the speed limit on Browning Rd, they need to install more stop signs or traffic lights in that area, and by enforcing the speed limit before and after school with police presence. The school district needs to permanently keep a crossing guard at this dangerous intersection. As for the state level, there needs to be a height restriction placed on lifted trucks or the need for specialized license to drive them. I understand that these oversized trucks are used for off-roading or merely for show, but not only are they useless to society, they're extremely dangerous on our city streets!

RIP Shaylyn. I hope with each passing day that your family find the strength to heal and continue to find comfort in those who loved and cared for you.

i think you should really just let it go, no matter what you say people are going to be driving fast, yes we should all slow down, but these kids need to stop thinking they are invincible
you cant sit their in your little chair and tell me that during school hours these kids just walk run watever without even looking twice, or when their walking signal is on,,, they dont care.. yes they might think " oh they have breaks, they will stop".. no we do have breaks but it doenst mean we will use them, or they will back fire, there are crackheads out there who are driving not giving 2fucks..as cautious as we are, sh!t happens , the end,,,,

Both sides were at fault for this tragic accident. Driver should have driven a car she can see & manage, child should not have been crossing the street texting. Sad but true, only god knows why things happen. Lets pray for everybody involved, may they find closure.

Understandable but as a parent of a Morningside & a La Vina student, it's a matter that I cannot let go.

Sounds like your a realist, but I just don't want that to happen to another child. It's our job as a community: parents, citizens, & leaders to do whatever it takes to protect our children. Any action is better than no action.

You got it all wrong. The driver didnt wait for her to cross. Shay was almost on the sidewalk already and then she got hit. And her little brother was NOT with her. Just cos you know the driver doesnt mean you know what happened.

Everyone in here thats saying negative things should really stop. Just because her death doesnt affect you doesnt suggest you to be rude. Imagine it happening to you or your family. You'd hate what you people are doing on this. She was like a little sister to me, and it hurts to see all these harsh comments. I'm pretty sure that if her family read this they would be mort hurt by what you people are saying.

I was working at the hospital that day and I seem what happened and trust when I say it wasn't the drivers fault the grandma of the little boy said she let his hand go an he ran. Why would the grandma or any one for that matter let go of the hand of a 3 year old in a parking lot. It was a terrible accident an I was in the ER when it was all happening cause I ran out like a lot of the staff from the medical arts building to check if he was ok and the grandma kept saying if she hasn't let his hand go nothing would of happened. I'm pretty sure the guy woke up that morning and didn't say we'll today I feel like running over a lil boy and putting his family threw all that pain as well as Blanca. I know Blanca she is a very good person she wouldn't harm anyone. She has 2 kids of her own and I know for a fact that they are her everything and she wouldn't want this to happen to anyone accidents do happen and all is are quick to judge others. But put urself in her shoes she has to live with that and that's not easy either. I know for a fact that she isn't a stupid paisa Mexican that doesn't know how to drive like all these people are saying and I know that if she could turn back time she would. RIP to the Angels that have lost their lives and hopefully the families heal with time.
