AFGE 1749 was formed to protect its members from unfair and hostile treatment of its membership. But lately the hostile treatment seems to come from the union itself. Hostile environment letters with dozens of signatures have been submitted recently. Months later, nothing is done. A hostile work environment is basically a workforce that is bullied by its management. Ther is a Zero Tolerance of such treatment. If 1749 is made aware of this mistreatment, and fails to act, then it is just as guilty as the management the letters complain about. Yet, if membership challenges the 1749 for lack of action, or questions in general about Local activity, they are met with hostile attitudes. When the organization tasked with protecting paying members from hostility are hostile themselves it is time for a change.

Further, membership is treated with a wait and see attitude. Wait and see if they will give up and forget, submit. A maintenance division has one supervisor who has caused 4 early retirements. Recently this supervisor has been attacking 2 of his employees. More letters with signetures are called for. But for what use? Letters with signetures have been turned in. More letters to wait and see? Employees who risk their livelyhood don't sign them for no reason. Every day that 1749 ignors these pleadings for help results in more stress and discomfort. 1749 should feel the pain of these employees rather than sitting on the letters they risk to sign. Every day gone by is one more day of misery for hard working employees who just want to do their jobs without the oppressive harrassment of untrained and defiecient managers.

It is illegal for your employer to:

■Threaten to or actually fire, lay off, discipline, harass, transfer, or reassign employees because they support the union
■Favor employees who donít support the union over those who do in promotions, job assignments, wages, hours, enforcement of rules or any other working condition
■Shut down the work site or take away any benefits or privileges employees already enjoy in order to discourage union activity
■Promise employees a pay increase, promotion, benefit or special favor if they oppose the union
■Ask employees if they attended a union meeting, if they support the union or any other questions about their union activity
■Refuse to deal with the union once employees vote to be reprensented
This was copied from the "Should the VV nurses unionize. The last item should be noticed by LAFB and AFGE 1749

Commenting on the above post. Remember, a union is the members. Not the officers. They must submit to the members. Not the other way around. It would be illegal for LAFB not to recognize concerns of 1749. It would also be illegal for 1749 not to recognize the concerns of the UNION.

Collusion is an agreement between two or more persons, sometimes illegal and therefore secretive, to limit open competition by deceiving, misleading, or defrauding others of their legal rights, or to obtain an objective forbidden by law typically by defrauding or gaining an unfair advantage.[citation needed] It is an agreement among firms to divide the market, set prices, or limit production.[1] It can involve "wage fixing, kickbacks, or misrepresenting the independence of the relationship between the colluding parties".[2] In legal terms, all acts affected by collusion are considered void.[3]

Wow, I thought this thread would be exciting to read. I was wrong. Only 2 people have commented? I guess the folks out there are happy now and have nothing to complain about. A few months ago I thought that would be impossible. Seems like they have turned everything around for the better and supervisors and employees are working together in perfect harmony. That's good news !!! Awesome !!!

And how are things on Mars? Did you not take your meds today? If my post is going ignored, it is due to the mass exodus of folks leaving, or already left the union. Most have already given up. Go back and read the post definig Colusion. You will hear more about that when the time is right.

Oh...by the way. The recent climate survey probably tells a diffrent story than the one you dreamed up.( Please take your meds right away ). Of course, we will never see the results of the survey. If it wasn't sanitized by the rather goofy EEO representative, then I am fairly sure it was buried under piles of trash paper and carried away by the garbage truck. Fact is, there are other ways to expose hostility in the workplace. Lackland AFB, or Joint Base Lackland has just today announced an Abuse Hotline.

Sorry, I should really wait for replies, but my mind seems to crank out thoughts that can't be ignored. After rereading this quote, and knowing the real situation, I can only think back to the more hostile regimes around the world, past and present. read the above quote again. Take out the words SUPERVISORS and EMPLOYEES. Now substitute The REICH and CITIZENS. Or KREMLIN and COMRADS, Or HUSSAIN and IRAQIS, Or KADOFFI and LIBYANS. Get it? The empolyees will recognize this quote as pure political BS. Maybe they don't answer because they are more interested in who is the hottest girl at Wal Mart. At least that is a diversion from their reality. I hope you will keep posting, I feel that you may be close to the top. Please allow me to enlighten you.

Well if you read what I wrote above, I agree with you that nothing gets done. But if members voted in a whole new group, those who have never served, those who have no agenda of "getting something" then maybe the union would be more successful. We had a union president who was on fire for its members. But he had a price too, and was sold out to management. My rock is the Declaration of Independance. Where brave men put their names on a piece of paper in defience to oppression. And had the courage to carry through. Yes this may be an extreme example, but one of the men who signed that document is personally special to me. That is the kind of courage we need. Unwavering, and un corruptable leadership. That would take full participation, a tall order to fill here.

Mr. Eyes wide open. I am quite impressed by your knowledge of the union laws and employee rights. I was just making an honest observation on how many "unhappy" employees have joined you in this post (no one). The proof is in the pudding. If there is truly a problem out there like you say, please practice what you preach and tend to those matters legally. I would assume that the supervisors don't really consider you enlightening everyone on Topix as anything for them to worry about. It comes off as looking like a last resort. Please don't be offended by this post.

The 1749 president is paid $23.85 per hour. This is the WG-10 pay. He is paid this hourly wage because he is on full time "Official Time". This is his hourly wage as if he was working in his career field. Union officers recieve what is called stiphen money. I hope that stiphen is the correct spelling, but it is pronounced this way. Styphen money is hundreds of dollars paid to union officers above their working wage. This money comes out of the dues that members pay. That is right. They get paid hundredes of dollars in addition to their wage. This money comes out of your union dues. Now how does the do nothing union feel? TYhe next time you have a legitamate complaint, and voice it to the union, and nothing is done, remember that they were paid extra out of your check to do nothing. You may not be responding, but I know you are reading.

You are so wrong. Laughlin workers are top notch. They perform thier jobs outstandingly even though under pressure from ignorent division chiefs and a bought and paid for union. These folks are professionals, attested by the number of our aircraft that return safely back home, and by the soaring FMC rates the base enjoys despite their uncaring ignoring of issues that they refuse to deal with. Understanably, many of our soldiers from Laughlin have been and are being deployed to war regions in harms way. Thank God for their service and we prey for their speedy return unharmed. We are forever thankful for the missions they perform on our behalf. But, this is not a war zone. And ignoring the folks here that keep em flying is shameful. We are serving too.
