Bloomberg reports General Motors is planning to halt Chevrolet Volt production for a month because sales are just not meeting the company's expectations. Through July, GM has sold 10,666 Volts in the U.S., way short of the 45,000 that CEO Dan Akerson originally hoped to sell this year, out of 60,000 globally. GM has since cut back its sales projections to 30,000 to 40,000. Automotive News reported the plant is expected to be shut between Sept. 17 and Oct. 15, although a GM spokesman wouldn't confirm them for Bloomberg although now we're hearing they also want to retool for the 2014 Impala. Sure... GM halted Volt production back in March for five weeks. Since then, it has been a lot more aggressive with Volt deals, and it's also provided Volts to Hertz. But at the rate it is selling, Volt may never get to the 60,000 a year that GM has long said it could sell.

Of course some people argue that one day watches, bicycles and shoes that shine will be obselete, but you know where that leaves us.

but they are still going to continue making them.....

whether you like it or not..

peoples jobs count on it...

same for the impala.

I support all of GM's cars.

I support the american auto industry.

the production of the volt will continue even if ROMNEY wins!!

as it is a free market economy, and there is a market.

even close to 60000 a year is good step forward, considering all the infrastrcuture that would enabble MANY electric and hybrid cars to operate...

stay civil, because you may just be the one who is wrong!!

so what!!! they are suspending it due to overexpectations....

GM does THAT all the time...

my question is??

do you support the american car brand more than MITT romney does...

lets hope so, as many jobs are at stake!!

A Challenge! I love a challenge.
The first part is for you. Go to the drive-up window, buy your food, then before eating, wait a little bit like you were delayed or something.(a phonecall, traffic, some interruption) and if you wait long enough for the window of food value in that volitile commodity to lapse and it still looks
appetizing to you, eat it.

gas costing 400$ a gallon and the volt going four times as far on the same gas is hardly speculating......
these are factual realities that youve yet to admit to yourself...
it is like you are incapable of talking about milage and how the volt gets four to five times the milage of a "traditional" car.
?????
it is what makes it viable to begin with!!
Guess what? The volt is not free, you need to figure the cost of the vehicle along with the gas, then you might realize like most people, it's not worth it.

Are they shooting cannabis flowers at each other through cannons to kill each other?
You could soak a rattlesnake with Demerol, it's still pretty dangerous.
It's a drug not a magic potion.

That shooting is a consequence of the prohibition, not of smoking weed. The same, well even worst, happened during alcohol prohibition. Prohibition multiplies abnormally the money value of the plant. It is an incentive for criminals. It happens with any useful product when prohibitated.

ok num nuts.....

lets go over this again

the cost of YOUR new car is only about 10 or 12k less than my purchase price(after tax rebate!)

yet to go 200000 miles???

youll have to pay 40000 in gas(at current prices)

while the volt only takes 2500 gallons of gas to go the same distance.......or 10000 dollar in fuel costs.

you KEEP OMMITING(and by that denying) that this car gets awesome milage.

like most republicans from the FAR right??

you omit facts that dont fit well in your blustering idiotic arguement that we should NOT switch over to electric(or other alt fuel) cars........

when we all know the oil WONT last forever.

instead of being caught with our pants down??

and letting our nation GRIND to halt(with your brilliant plan)

lets repower now, like our primary competitors are doing.

so we can avoid this nation coming to a standstill, and the chaos that would ensue???

You forgot to mention what you figure a new car's gas mileage is. And how much that car costs. Stop making up stuff.

Plus you forgot to mention that plugging it in is not free, you forgot to mention who is paying the tax breaks for this losing money car. The reason gas is so high is because Obama wants it high to push his Gov. motor car.

Driving 10,000 miles a year at 25 miles per gallon in a $15,000 gas vehicle requires 400 gallons of gas; at $4 per gallon, it's $1,600 per year or 16 cents per mile for gas.

The EPA rates the Volt for 375 combination miles with one full charge and one fill-up (9.3 gallons). A Volt recharge costs roughly $5 and requires 8 hours. A Volt's fill-up is $37.20 plus $5 for electricity or $42.50 to go 375 miles or 11 ¼ cents per mile. Compared to gas, you’d save $475 per year for 10,000 miles.

However, the Volt costs $40,000 plus $2,000 for a home charging station. With a 10-year electric car life, it's $2,500 more a year in purchase costs to save $475 a year in gas. At $4 gas, it takes 52 years of gas mileage savings to offset the Volt's additional $25,000 purchase price.

100-plus mpg Volt claims are misleading, too. They drive 35 miles on the available electric and then recharge. The method requires 10 recharges at $5 each, or $50 costing 13 1/3 cents per mile.

The Volt concept fails because cheaper 40-plus mpg Hybrid cars are already available, and you have to burn dirty fuels for the electricity.

The Volt does not save money.
