Thank you Chicago Tribune for focusing on this problem. There are too many women dead from domestic violence.

An OP should mean something an while domestic violence primarily remains a matter of state and local jurisdiction, there are several federal laws available for prosecuting domestic violence offenders.

Leida Santiago is not a jugde. That is why I did not put judge in from of her name. I have read all article on her and they were on the money. She is not smart, she make bias and poor decision and she is buddy with some attorneys, instead of following the laws that we holds as USA citizen. SHE NEED TO BE REMOVE ASAP.

Chief Judge Timothy Evans need to investigate Leida Santiago and put her where she belongs in school. She is incompetence to be a judge. I hope that Judge Timothy Evans is reading these articles, and do somehting about the situation. My finanacial and personal life it going to hell in a handbag and Judge Santiago keeps dragging the case out for years and years at a time for no apparent reason...I am so angry and distraught. She is a disgrace to the system!!!!!!!!!!

judge Leida Gonzalez is cut from the Judge Grace Dickler cookie cutter... extremely biased and prejudicial in her rulings. They both pick a side early in the case and enter favorable rulings for their favorate attorney and/or litigant. Very few of their rulings are based on the facts and evidence presented in the case. Their rulings are based solely on the personal like or dislike of the litigants. it is wrong and there needs to be some type of law that holds these type of judges accountable for the lives that they destroy.

What a sexist statment ... going to the real issue....Santiago is from the same corrupt lawless crook county court system as former judge karen g. shields. Ex Shields let cases drag on for years and years at the expense of naive parents. She kept her cases hidden in chambers or sealed them. Shields pattern of practice was to drag cases on for years so that litigants would run out of money and get emotionally drained and then coerce them into signing into "agreed" judgments so that nothing could be appealed and this would keep her corruption from being exposed and keep her "record" clean. If you challenge Shields' illegal actions she will retaliate by either barring you from the courtroom (yes this happens here in AMERICA)or she will turn you over to the IL Terrorism Unit. Evans and Jacobius are very well aware of this. Shields is now being defended in a Lake Cnty lawsuit on YOUR TAXES !!! Yep, Lisa Madigan is defending a corrupt judge and you the tax payers of IL are flipping the bill !!!

I totally agree. This woman is so incompetent it is unbelievable. She has some political connections from her husband who was a former city alderman involved in ghost payrolling or something. She really doesn't want anyone to know what an imbecile she is.

If you have a divorce in front of Santiago get a Substitution of Judge motion right away. Get a court reporter if you have to be in front of her. Don't give her any chance of screwing up your life or your kids, she doesn't care. Yes get this lady off the bench and put some fair and truly impartial jurist in her place. She rolls her eyes, sighs, visibly shows her disgust with just one side. She is not fair and I have witnessed and been victimized by Leida Santiago actions reported here. I have watched her in action and I am not a professional at it. She is a disgrace to the system.

My mother was arrested and charged with domestic battery. My sister claimed she slammed the door in her face.

I went to bail out my mom, but she had to spend the night in jail because there is a "cooling down" law to keep angry spouses from returning home after being charged. They didn't even live in the same house at the time, but apparently it's a blanket law covering all situations.

My sister is one of the more violent people I know. She also knows how to play the system and have other people arrested and locked up for no good reason.

There are some grossly unfair laws regarding domestic violence. They absolutely do take the 'victims' word as gospel (even if their story is complete bull).
