Really? I hope it works too. I saw Chicky posted a lot of book stuff on one of the other threads. I hope it moves over here as I'd love to get into some good conversation.

YEAH!!!!!!!! A thread I can feel good about, and one I look forward to with relish. Honestly, some of the posts on the other thread bring out my evil b)tch, and even I don't like her much. Sometimes I love her, but that's another story....ah, yes. The story. I believe that's what we're trying to discuss here. Can't wait. Good to see you, every one!

Ok, I'll start. Foo has me absolutely addicted to Greg Iles. I didn't care as much for 24 Hours, but everything else has been fabulous. I'm in the middle of The Devil's Punchbowl and can hardly put it down. If anyone likes a good legal thriller/mystery, I'd strongly recommend him. I love the way Iles weaves characters from past books into new ones. Thanks again, Foo.

I have only read one other of his than 24 Hours, which was nowhere near as good as Spandau Phoenix. Gives me chills just thinking about it. Do you like Ken Follet? Iles reminds me of him a bit.

I haven't read Spandau Phoenix. Aside from Devil's Punchbowl (which is what I'm currently working on), it's the only thing I haven't read of Iles. I'll add it to the list.

Spandau Phoenix concerns itself with Rudolph Hess, and it's really excellent. Big book though; give yourself at least 2 days for this one. Have you read Eye of the Needle, or The Pillars of the Earth?(Follet's work)

You'd probably like Black Cross -- Iles' other WWII novel. Sometimes it sucks having a job -- it gets in the way of my reading time (which I'm off to go do now). Have a great night!

I'm starting to think this thread is not going to get off the ground. What a shame.

Evening all!
I posted this on the "Is there a middle..." thread but as it's more suitable here I'll post it again.
All the Margaret Atwood fans should enjoy this if you haven't heard it already.
http://wamu.org/programs/dr/
On an unrelated note, I'm really P.O.'d at Diane Rehm since she's sailing to Egypt right now with a handful of NPR listeners. Usually I hear them announce these sort of things months in advance but I can't recall ever hearing this.
Damned! My passport expires next year and I'd have liked to have another stamp on it...would also have loved to have seen Egypt too!
Oh well.
Rant over.
From listening to the program though, I'm definitely going to have to get Atwood's newest book since it seems like a companion piece to Oryx and Crake.

Glad you were able to link to this thread in the manner I suggested. So happy you're here, dear. Really disappointed to have missed the Atwood interview though. I plan to check Oryx and Crake out of the library, as soon as I take the 10 books back which I have now. Here's hoping we're not alone on the couch for long here, as I was thinking we'd have lots more company by this time 2 days later (!)

Hah! You're bad! ;)
If you click on the link, you should be able to listen to the interview; since Diane's sailing(grrrh!) Frank Sesno was conducting the interview. He's good, but I'll admit my favorite stand-in for her is Susan Page from USA Today.
The book itself also has a website here...

Sounds quite interesting and Atwood was an engaging and very entertaining guest on the show.
Alright, I'm callin' it a night--something I should have done awhile ago!
Best all!

Hey, Nana. How are you this morning? I'm on the boards for just a minute before I go to work, but wish I had more time to converse. Gotta go. Have a great day. Give some hell to sunny jane for me, willya'?
