To Mike...The Caneisto pit is actually a series of pits that had different operators at different times. The mine pits were dug over 30 years ago with some of it over 70 years ago. The companies are no longer in business and this was done before the bonds for reclamation of a closure were required.

It's time to dig a creek or river to another lake downhill.

now that's what u call a courtesy flush!

when considering the population in Bovey a nice flush might clear up the smell. But in their case we're probabaly going to need a big plunger.

There's going to be some very valuable property on the shores of lake Bovey in a couple years.

I heard they are going to put hops and barley in the pit. If it turns to beer, the residents of Bovey will drink it dry.....

I noticed there are some very astute comments coming from outside of Bovey. Anything that's flushed from the north is going to end up in the Twin Cities.

It is more than a year since these posts and still nothing has happened to lower the water level of the Canisteo Pit. The water level is 1314.6 and the rim is 1324. Some people believe the angle of repose will occur at 1315 and will stabilize at that level. MN has provided $3.5 million to de-water the pit yet nothing has happened because the DNR and the WMMPB can not agree on "a plan" that will be within the budget.

They go round and round, but I thought the plan was to divert the excess through Trout Lake in Coleraine and out the prairie river.

Unfortunatly, I think politics will prevent anything reasonable happining and when the wall breaks, it will go this way anyway. I just wish it would take some of the snobs on the hill in Coleraine with it.

They used to use Trout Lake in Coleraine as a drain lake the problem is that they don't seee any reason to keep draining it because it will keep rising. The towns of coleraine and bovey wwill end up being a big lake and the will have to spend more money to reroute hwy 169 again

I grew up in bovey. Best childhood memories ever. I really hope the corupt government and state officials and mn dnr finally do something. The longer they wait the worse its going to get. I'm sure it'll be mighty pretty when it does flood out most of bovey.
