If there are postings here that are slandering her and she can prove the statements are not true, she can file suit against the person(s) that are posting the untrue statements. She can't get the names of everyone who post on the site, but can for the people that accuse her of something that did not take place. Morale of this story is if you are posting factual incidents, you are fine. If you are posting false allegations, she can file suit against you and your names will be revealed through court subpoenas. If you post false information just to make her look bad, you may need to reconsider your actions. If these incidents did take place and you can prove it took place and she files suit against you, you may be the winner and she might just have to pay your legal fees and countersuite claims. And yes, there is a precedent on this where a family sued because of slandaring postings on a blog that were found out not to be true. If I'm not mistaken,it was also a Topix Forum. In addition, I don't believe she destroyed the property that her Grandmother gave her because she was that upset over these postings! <quoted text>

I hope you all have good lawyers because you are going to need them.
Becky has read this and she is very angry. She has a lot of friends in very high places. Some people obviously have sour grapes.
Time to lawyer up and pay the piper."

What do you mean by "You People?",and who or what exactly do you mean by "every one of you?" Referring to the common riff-raff no doubt.

All the named defendants could join resources and hire the same attorney to defend them all. I just can not believe however that a sitting council person would drag her beloved city through the mud like that,it could only bring attention that would negatively affect tourism.

I wonder exactly what Ms.Cobb would claim the damages done to her "character" (beyond those she has inflicted upon herself) are? Is not Becky always angry? I would like to hear her testimony.
Subpoena power I would assume would work both ways and the defendants could easily call to the stand a bus or boat load of Ms. Cobbs "friends in high places". Discovery could turn up a lot of interesting paperwork, e mails and texts or get a lot of paper shredders humming, and cleaning up of e mails and texts.
I suppose the above comments are from persons intimately familiar with Ms. Cobbs oft reported personable nature. I am sure that all those folks would be happy to be called to testify on her behalf, questioned and cross examined as to Ms. Cobbs character, and past actions, who knows maybe some new and interesting insights would be brought into the light and perhaps even there are some other deeds her "lot of powerful friends in high places" have done or are planning to do for or with her.
On the other hand the trial could make clear the good work Ms. Cobb has done for the City and the region in general, and bring shame upon the "slanderers".
Of course what comes to mind is the flock of folks that came to speak for Jodi Arias' character.(0, not even her dear mother and Jodi did not even allegedly destroy any precious family mementos while in her fit of rage.)

Ms. Cobb could win her slander case and be awarded a few cents per defendant in actual damages, sort of like how much money she claimed the 4B / type B tax scheme was going to affect the average citizen's pocketbook.

Anyone want to start the list of possible witnesses the defense should call to the stand?

This could be fun! I will donate to the defense fund, not because I particularly favor them but because I would assume Ms. Cobb's high powered friends would chip in for her legal aid, and in the interest of justice and fair play I would like to see the battle take place on a level playing field.

I signed the petition, not because I witnessed her behavior in the article, but because of her overall condescending attitude towards people in the past. This is one of several reasons I am in favor of term limits for these positions. People who stay in public office for a long time tend to develop a superiority complex towards the people they are there to serve. I lived in the District of Columbia long enough to recognize this to be a fact.

I respect Jeff Pound's self imposed 2-term limit on his council seat and wish he had won his bid for mayor. To me, he appears to be a sincere person interested in serving the public. BSC seems to be there for the glory and the benefits of the position. She certainly has not done anything to improve the character of this city. Oh - I forgot... she had the cabin relocated to an illogical site. Oh well.

I tend to agree with you. When you serve too long, you tend to think you can get away with anything. If she does not resign, she should not run again next year. If she is a woman of her word, she will not. Someone told me she said 3 years ago she was only going to serve 2 more terms. This year would wrap that up. With what I've been hearing and what I read in the paper, she would be unelectable if foolish enough to run again. I would be glad to sign the petition. Perhaps when it is available, an article might be in the paper to let people know about it?

I doubt very seriously she is a woman of her word. She has a hard time obeying her own city ordinances. She has certainly violated her oath of office. She only serves herself. If she wasn't on city council, she would be just another another insurance sales rep. That is all.

When I was a senior in DPHS, on some inservice days, I would drive into Houston and sit in on trials, as I was very interested in law and gov't. Family court and criminal were the most interesting. I did go a few times and observe in DP. I think it was Judge Richey at the time. Yes, they can be interesting to attend and watch and listen. Haven't done that in quite some time. I'm off Thursday, I may go observe if I have time. Thanks for your post and for bringing back some memories. Before Winston attacks me, yes, I was a boring teenager and an even more boring adult....Lol

Of course she will not resign. And my money has it that she will run again. She enjoys being in the position because it boosts her ego, which is a sure sign of some deeper issues she suffers from. She is obviously a very supperficial, shallow individual. Besides, where else can you get to travel on nifty junkets on the taxpayers dime.

Now that is interesting. I wonder why they did not read her name. Maybe to protect her sterling reputation in our city. Ha!
