I sometimes receive an email that I can open, but can't open the attachment. It says it's a .pps I can open a jpeg. What is a .pps? Why can't I open them? When I click on the attachment the software that tries to open it is my Windows Picture and Fax Viewer, but it says No Preview Available in the middle of screen. That's all it says. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Pop A .pps file is a Microsoft PowerPoint Slideshow file. I'm guessing that you probably don't have MS PowerPoint. You can download a "reader" file that will let you open it, from Microsoft: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.as... HOWEVER, I hope you know who is sending this to you VERY WELL and trust the source of the file. Keep in mind, opening files that are passed on to others, have the potential of being viruses.(This is one of the most common ways that viruses are spread.) Also, just because it is from someone you might know, doesn't mean it's a virus free file or that it was actually sent by that person. If a virus infected your friend's computer and stole their email address book, then it could be sending the same virus file to people in their address book in attempt to spread the file. Be careful of any attachments, without knowing exactly what you are receiving.

That link was for the PowerPoint 2003. If it still won't open properly with that reader, you may want to try the PowerPoint 2007 veiwer: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/powerpoint/...

Should I download both? I downloaded 2003 version only. I was able to view it, but had a hard time finding it. Also, this is just a viewer/reader, not a program that I can use to create a PP correct?

While I probably use MS Office more, it's mostly because I had it before I learned about Open Office and I'm just used to using it. However, I have checked out Open Office... opening, modifying and creating MS documents and it appears to work great. It will also allow you to create PDF documents, by using an "export" function in the "File" menu. It's a very powerful program that certainly rivals the expensive MS Office suite.

hmmm... this is really strange. I cleared "cookies" on my computer (which also automatically logs me out) and the #5, 7 & 9 posts don't show up, until I logged back in... THEN they show up. I have no idea why this happens, but it must be a bug in the Topix software code... just not sure what it would be to cause this.

It appears that Topix is blocking all posts that reference the Open Office web address. Maybe they have some sort of agreement with MS? It wouldn't surprise me.

This is strange. Those posts show up when I'm logged on, but not when I'm logged out. It's also strange that some of these posts aren't getting labeled with a post number immediately, although the post seems to be displayed. There's something wrong with Topix.

post #5 response: There aren't near as many of the newer versions out there, as most still use older software, rather than automatically upgrading. So, if you downloaded the 2003 reader, it will probably work 90% of the time. You are correct... this is just a program that allows you to view projects, that others have created. It's like Adobe Acrobat Reader for PDF files, which also allows you to read them, but you can't use it to create the files. In order to create the files, you would have to purchase the full blown program... ALTHOUGH YOU REALLY DON'T! Well not Microsoft's version... You can download a FREE program developed by Sun, call Open Office. With this program, you can read and create MS Office documents, without the expense of purchasing MS Office!

Help. right now I'm on my lap top. My home computer is running but nothing appears on my monitor. I believe it happened during the storm today because it was fine yesterday.

Pop This might be a little more difficult to determine the problem without actually seeing the unit. But for starters: Have you tried turning everything off (including the monitor) and restarting it? When turning everything off, make sure you leave everything off for a MINIMUM of 1 minute.(This is important, as residual power is retained in the components as part of the power restoration features built into computers.) After turning everything back on... most monitors have a Menu button. Upon pressing the Menu button, does anything come up on the screen? Once you get this far, let me know the results and I may be able to determine the possibility for the next steps.

When I hooked up the monitor to my lap top the monitor worked fine.
