Maybe if parents would discipline their kids the way they should, it would help. I see kids driving nice cars, carrying $250 Ipods, running (or speeding) around town with nothing to lose. That is because the parents let them continue to run around town in their nice cars, carrying their $250 Ipods, even when they get in trouble at school or get a speeding ticket. Hit them where it hurts -- take their cars away for a week, or take their Ipods away!!! Make them walk with nothing for a while!!! Don't buy them nice things until they can prove that they are responsible and trustworthy! Lead by example and show others the respect that you wish to receive! Maybe it will catch on!

Hey OP take a look at home first before you start blaming others. I imagine thats where the real problem originates.

DPISD creates a product. They have a timeline and a blueprint. It drives a truck and scores touchdowns. It never gives up and it never complains.
The defective product is moved quickly through the distribution channel to the clearance centers. This work never ends.

Like as was said before, most of the kids' discipline problems are a result of parenting or just the kids' own arrogance. A school is no place for disrespect and that is why unmanageable students are sent elsewhere. If any of you bitter contributors had half the education I received at Deer Park you would realize this. Deer Park may be a sheltered and self-consumed community but their school district spits out some pretty bright students. Why did this conversation arise in the first place? Some people have too much time on their hands.

DPISD may not be perfect, but if you are not happy here, I challenge you to go to move to any neighboring school district and tell me that you are happier there. If you think kids will get a better education in Pasadena, Goose Creek, Clear Creek or La Porte, then by all means, get on out of here and go somewhere else where you will be better off. Over 1,000 kids come to Deer Park from outside the DPISD boundaries because they think DPISD is the place to be, or their parents dthink so anyway. That's 8% of the DPISD student population. How many kids go to these other districts from outside their boundaries? The education process here isn't perfect, but it's the best choice around right now. My advice - gut it out and come back in 20 years with a little maturity and historical perspective, then weigh in on how good or bad your educational experience was.

PP - a looser translation is "Providence favors our undertakings". This was particularly appropriate during the American Revolution when we were struggling to gain our independence from Britain and the overbearing Church of England's influence on the colonies. The eye of providence is generally considered or interpreted to be God. Latin translations aside, I like the motto, it seems timeless if your motives are pure, or at least honestly intended, and I think mine are.

Hello AC

I have used the latin form (Rene Descartes) on the site before and was chastised for using "obscure quotations" and confusing people. I applaud your use of it, as well as the tone of your posts.

Descartes was quite the philosopher, but I admired his mathematical prowess and his mapping system, hence the discipline of cartography. Aside from the Lourve, the Eiffel Tower and wine, his work might be the only decent import from France.

The tone of this thread does need to change. Too many kids in here saying things they will laugh at themselves for in 20 years.

But you have to admire their ungoverned passion. Show me an 18-year old who isn't a liberal and I'll show you a kid with no heart. Show me a 40-year old who isn't a conservative and I'll show you a man with no brain.
