You are talking about raises for every employee, regardless of how good a worker they are. Why not merit raises for the good ones and reductions for the bad ones?

Stop spending my taxes foolishly!

Most companies I know of do not give merit raises and cola combined, one or the other. I never had a cola, my performance dictated any raise / increase in wages on an annual basis. The city has a rate sheet for various increases for assigned positions, that is what they should use, not cola. It just another way to increase payroll costs passed onto the tax payer.

I would say give cola and forget about merit raise, follow the rate sheet.

same for longevity pay, this needs to stop, cut that program. Not happy with your pay then leave and go some where else. Nothing but a needless Christmas bonus.

longevity pay :

"A contractual agreement to provide annual compensation to an employee based on seniority. Longevity pay is often given to employees at the top of the pay scale as compensation for their service."

Employees receive paychecks for time worked, that should be sufficient compensation for their services, if not leave!

Hell no!. Many of us out here in the real world don't get a cost of living increase and are lucky to even keep our jobs.

Maybe the fat cats that run this city should look at ways to reduce spending on pet(unnecessary) projects if they feel
that strongly about it. Quit looking for excuses to raise taxes, again.

This is how cola raises bite you. You read about the garbage man who makes $150,000 per year? This is how it happens; giving raises evety year and getting nothing in return. The city workers already make higher wages than the private sector.

No raises for no extra productivity.

Of course, this could justify another $5 million for a scientific study on wages for city workers. So a cola raise might be cheaper.

Maybe they can spend some of that money on a scientific study of working taxpayers wages to figure out why many of us haven't had a raise in years.

How much does an employee who has been with the city for over twenty years get on the Longevity pay?. Why do you think they stay there so long.

Yep, lucky to NOT be like you. A government bootlicker that doesn't mind getting screwed by every self-serving POS that runs for office.

OMG! A whopping $4.00 a month......

So 4x12x20=960-taxes=about $500
And if they add it to the existing check you take home instead of a separate one. Guess what some folks have actually lost money.

This is just another example of those greedy overpaid city workers thumbing their noses at the hard working taxpayers of this town. If they want a Christmas bonus, get a part time job at Walmart during the holidays.

What a douche bag. I normally don't post anything on Heavy Feds Topix but, I had to in this case. Again, you're a douche. Sleep well tonight so you can work hard tomorrow and pay taxes. This town needs your douche bag tax dollars. Good night douche.

Cost of living raises whether or not you agree with them, never keep up with the cost of living. For the lady who asked COLA stands for Cost Of Living Adjustment, or Allowance, and it can go both up and down.
