The shooting happened about 2:30 a.m. Thursday. Assistant Chief Deputy Constable Mark Herman says the 55-year-old homeowner heard noises coming from his 16-year-old daughter's bedroom, investigated, found the boy with his daughter and shot him in the ensuing altercation. The father says he shot the boy when the teen dropped his hands as if to grab for something.

Investigators say the girl let the boy into the house and into the bedroom, but then told her father that she did not know the boy.

Yes it could also have been avoided by the young man not sneaking into an underaged girls bedroom at 2:30 in the morning.

Think of what else was avoided by the father having the gun. He probably saved his own life and saved the young man from a sexual assault conviction and saved his daughter from a rape.

investigators say--- the girl let the boy into the house and into the bedroom--so there was not much sneaking involved.
just a dumb decision on his part--to take her up on the invite.

The boy was seventeen and therefore could not be charged with statutory rape. If it is proven the girl lied someone needs to go to jail. The boys family should end up owning that family's house. I understand the father's reasoning and he has my sympathy but a kid is dead. Saying the boy was spared a rape charge is ridiculous, he is DEAD. The girl is going to have to live with the fact her lie got her friend killed.

I know some people never did anything wrong when they were kids.

I just hope there is no celebration over the death of this kid.

This is all well and good...but he did not use very good judgement...as most 17 year olds do and it cost him his life. Two families have been destroyed by this. If the girl lied and told her father that she did not know him, she will have to live with it the rest of her life. Was it worth it?

No sneaking around? Sounds like a lot of sneaking around by both kids. It's a shame that someone had to be killed when all that was needed was two good whippings. If the boy was reaching for something then the dad was justified but the daughter is the one at fault for lieing to daddy. She has to live with that for the rest of her life

First let me say, very sad a young man is dead. Now, according to an article in the Houston chronicle yesterday, the young man had gone to New Orleans for spring break and that is where his parents thought him to be. The fact that he returned 3 days early and no one knew speaks volumes. The girl lied about knowing the boy also speaks to her character and/or her relationship with her father. Life will be hard for her due to her actions. I pity the man who shot the boy. He must have felt he was protecting his family and killed a young man. This will weigh on him forever. I don't see why he would be prosecuted. No winners here

People are maimed, crippled and killed daily by cars. Is it the cars at fault or the drivers at fault?.

Just because some people are too stupid and or imcompetent to own guns and cars, it doesn't make a case for banning everyone from ownership. Typical libtard nanny state thinking.

You'd better read the LAW on statutory rape, he would have that conviction as long as she was underage, regardless of his age. Anyone in my house is subject to MY laws, don't come after me! No one wants to shoot a kid but he was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Glad you know a couple of folks that have never been in jail, I'm proud for you!
Your last statement is just full of it...no response..........

You need to reread the statutory rape law, because you are wrong. Saying the kid was spared a rape charge because he is DEAD is false and ludicrous. You can't rape the willing if the ages are within the law(which they were). If you can't understand the sarcasm of " I know some people NEVER did anything stupid (wrong) when they were young." EVERYBODY does stupid stuff when they are young!
If you have an issue with me hoping this doesn't turn into a celebration of this kid's death, I suggest you seek professional help.

The fact that I stated I understood why the father shot this kid and had sympathy for him, I guess that went way over your head.

Someone steps in my house uninvited and chances are their life will be changed forever. The kid was invited into the guys house and his civil rights were violated.(shot dead) His daughter set the scene in motion with the invitation and then the lie.I think you have the right to defend your home with deadly force but you can't shoot an invited guest and expect there to be no repercussions. Texas used to have a defense of "in the heat of passion" where a man could kill his wife and/or her lover if he caught them in the act in his own home. They had to change the law after a guy tied up his wife's lover and then castrated him. You can see how easy it would be to abuse these laws.

I am sorry you couldn't get any when you were a young man, most people (not all) have sex when they're in highschool.
