Does anyone know anything about Stripes wanting to build on the corner of Center and P Street? I understand that the land on that corner is for sale and Stripes is wanting to buy the property and build a gas station on it. Hopefully if they do, it would be as nice as the one on Red Bluff and Pasadena Blvd.

If it is true, I hope City Council approves rezoning for it. They could use the revenue from the Sales Tax it would produce and stop trying to get deeper in our pockets.

not sure if that wood help; business beat "Year-End Wrap-Up: In 2012, Deer Park issued 54 permits for new single-family homes. The City welcomed 148 new businesses (including 3 corporate headquarters) which brought approximately 900 new employees to our city. There were 17 new commercial buildings constructed in 2012."

Sure doesn't seem like Stripes will help much. sew your pockets, keep Mouton out of city politics.

how many gas stations does DP need? And they say oil companies don't make money, then why so many wanting to sell gas? Maybe they will have a food franchise and a pawn shop inside. How about a nice restaurant with a fully loaded bar, now that is what we need.

WHAT? Who said oil companies don't make money?

I think you're delusional. Capitalism is about making money. It's not a crime (yet).

Invest your money and become a franchisee for one.

Regardless of what they put there, it has to be re-zoned. Stripes or whomever builds, will bring income to the city, versus an abandoned Church.

That intersection already has the second highest accident rate now, best to leave it as it. But if anything would be better, then maybe a title loan store, pawn shop, adult book and video store, liquor store, smoke store or a hair and nail shop.

So Dr.Metz heading a petition to block the church from getting thier property re-zoned ? So not only will this block the sell of the property to Stripes, but block the church from selling the property at all for at least a year. Pretty underhanded stuff, to tell anyone they cant sell thier property...

Oh and BTW, you talk about traffic at that corner, take a look at the Docs parking lot sometimes.

Agreed. Then again, I believe he offered less than 4.00 a square foot and Stripes 9.00. It is interesting how he is doing this since he was told no deal by the church. 700,000 could really help that church grow. I'm sure Metz, McDugle, Riddle, Patterson and Cobb or against it. Since they all are friends. Support bringing business to DP and more taxes. Oh, Metz doesn't want it because the church would not sell. Give me a break. Everyone at that church needs to show up at Council and speak. The Humpty Dumpty in charge should let them as well. Richey needs to grow some balls and help them even if he isn't pastoring the church. What a bunch of Sale Outs and No Gooders. I bet if it was another fast food, nail place or hotel they would be all over it.

Wow what a great idea Stripes at this intersection.

Think $$$$ in sales tax revenue more so than Dr. Metz can provide. Not only do they sell gas but also provide fast food too, along with other taxable goods.

More importantly, this would eliminate some of the traffic snarl at the intersection of Pasadena Blvd and Center with cars turning into the Valero or HEB gas stations.

Stripes also sees the potential customers due to the numerous cars traveling on Center and P especially during school days. Hopefully the city will too!!

Well well well. Seems issue of this being voted on by city council has been pushed to a later date. Seems Metz and his protest failed to notify two existing businesses adjacent to the church property that were required to be notified and given a vote. How convienient was that. Maybe this will go to our new Council now after the election, and "How's this gonna hurt how many votes I get", wont be such a factor in punishing the Church.

It the City that failed to notify two existing businesses adjacent to the church property that were required to be notified and given a vote. NOT Dr. Metz. No one has any intention to "Punish the Church". I'm sure that those that appose the gas station are doing what they feel is BEST for the community of Deer Park.

You are correct Just Saying the city should be the ones that should notify the neighboring businesses or land owners.

If Dr. Metz purchases this property would he not also have to request a rezone?

With his current offices on the former site of St. Luke's Episocopal Church maybe he finds success with building on Holy Grounds?

If you were offered 200,000 dollars for your house than an another offer comes in at 250,000 cash which one would you choose?

Amazing that this issue, vote, has been put off until after the city election? The same for the San Jacinto issue...is it too hot to handle prior to the election? Like cream, It might just rise to the top once again ehen the election is over. I wonder if the city has spent any money to date on studies etc.

Does the city have the responibility to notify the neighbors? If so then perhaps it was a delay tatic on a formal vote until after the election?

Why is it amazing that the Stripes issue has to start over? Sam isn't running, Thane is unopposed, Chris is unopposed and Wayne is resigning. Yes the city has to notify the neighbors.
