Why would the councilwoman ignore the sign ordinance and place this outlawed sign in clear viloation of the ordiance? Does she think she is better than others and does not need to follow the ordinance. Clearly she knows the ordinances.

hmmm...

I thought the city ordinances were "required reading" when getting elected to council.

Perhaps it's a good thing they don't have to take a test or she might have flunked.

Wow. It's against the law to hang a sign from your back yard fence? Why haven't the Teabaggers risen up against the tyranny of big government intrusion in Deer Park?

In addition, the rules indicate where such signs may be displayed and how long they may be displayed. I don't think a backyard fence is one of the approved locations.

Perhaps it's time to get someone into position 5 that might take the job more seriously and know what is and isn't allowed, BEFORE doing such stupid crap.

Seems to me this sign is posted on PRIVATE PROPERTY. If you can put a political sign in YOUR front yard, what is the difference???

I don't know the specifics of the law. But I thought that:
1) Candidates had to post a cash bond or something similar that they don't get back untill all of their signs are removed
2) Couldn't place signs in the street medians or on utility poles.
3) Limits to sizes of signs.
4) Limits to size and location at street corners so as not to block the view of turning motorists.

Seems like some people won't be happy until Guv'ment regulates when and how we take a sh*t.

UH... not to stifle your rant, but just thought I'd mention that the sign has nothing to do with political advertising, which is separately covered in the city's ordinances.

If you click on the photo, it will get bigger so you can get a better look.

However, if you got so worked up that you pulled the mouse cord loose from the computer... Cobb is advertising her insurance business, not her candidacy.

Temporary signs are defined as signs limited to 6-SqFt.
There is also a "hanging banner fee" of 25.00 and a "Permit fee for sign display area @ 0.30 per square foot of display area, wit a Minimum fee of 5.00.
http://library.municode.com/showDocumentFrame...

...
Sec. 86-153.- Height; size; spacing; number.
(c) No commercial advertising sign, with the exception of on-premises signs, shall be established, placed, erected or constructed within the city.
http://library.municode.com/HTML/10635/level4...

Considering Sec. 86-153(c), one might question if there was a variance filed and accepted and whether the appropriate permit fees were paid.

Maybe the new city councilwomen will promise to repeal these fascist ordinances that restrict the rights of freedom-loving Deer Parkians everywhere.

this is not the first time for WHO to do this?

Ya'll might want to know that the picture of this sign was taken about 3-4 years ago and has been down for 3-4 years.

I think that their are more important subjects to discuss than a old picture of a banner for selling dental insurance. Geesh

Well, now that is interesting.
So, you're claiming that this is an "old" issue and the sign wasn't recently posted.

While it would be a bit deceitful for one to put this on Topix and lead others to believe that this is current, it might still lead to the question, "Was Becky fined for posting the sign or did she somehow get a permit?".

While I certainly do not condone using such things out of context or with implications meant to deceive, if it had been properly disclosed, one might still question the judgment of someone that has been holding office for several terms and either ignoring or not knowing the laws she swore to uphold. Based on this, I would still question if she should be sitting on council and making decisions that effect everyone in this city.
