Finally a good use of the stand your ground law, if he tries to use it. If someone asks you to stop texting during a movie, and you refuse to stop, then you deserve whatever happens to you. The Florida man stood up for common courtesy and they arrested him. Anyone who texts during a movie is trying to provoke a confrontation of some kind. It's lucky the old man had a gun.

Obviously, a mentally unbalanced hothead, dragging the worlds burdens around in his head, snapped and shot some people.

I will turn my phone off before I enter the theater next time.

I do like that this guy set a new precedent for theatre etiquette..........

But, this psyco needs to fry. I am pro gun and pro stand your ground, but none of my beliefs side with this idiot. Hell, the reason i carry a gun is because of pople like this.

A fireing squad with no blind fold, he deserves to see it coming. Retired law enforcement; he knew better. He is a cold blooded murderer and deserving of no mercy what so ever.

There are some parallels to the Zimmerman case here.

The old man initiated the confrontation verbally. The old man tried to get the manager(alledgedly)to intervene. Zimmerman called the cops to intervene. The younger man initiated the physical contact(popcorn throwing) and the old man retaliated with a gunshot. Trayvon attacked Zimmerman and Zimmerman shot him in self defense.

There is an argument to be made that when the younger man threw the popcorn the old man was afraid punches were next. The younger man was almost 30 years his junior and most likely could have beaten him to a pulp. Did the old man have the right to stand his ground?

Oh yeah, both incidents happened in Florida.

Big difference between a bag of popcorn and a fist in the face. The old man was a retired law enforcement officer; he knew where his confrotation could lead, and yet he did it reguardless. He murdered this person in front of his wife and a theater full of people and for what? Texting his three year old daughter, who will now grow up without her father. In fear for his life my a--. Stand him in front of a fireing squad and let him pay for the life he stole from that man and his family. No blindfold and no mercy!

Yeah, i dont really see much resembalance....... If the guy texting would have started beating the old man and pounding his head in the ground, then we would be looking at a totaly different situation.

Taunting is not the same as violence.

How many people text in a theater? Probably thousands, and this hateful old man kills one for it. He has no excuse for it; DEATH BY FIREING SQUAD! After his fair trial of course.

he probably was a hothead bully when he was a active duty cop.

That's just speculation from a thousand miles away. You don't know anything about the guy. All we really know is that he snapped over something stupid.

Let's just execute him and wash our hands of it.

We know he is a retired cop, and we know that he murdered a man over practicly nothing. Based on what we have heard it's reasonable to believe he has always been a hotheaded bully. Like said fireing squad, the sooner the better.

If the man had stopped texting when asked or better yet gone out into the lobby.....

What kind of person throws popcorn in an old man's face especially with your wife present? It seems like maybe one bully killed another bully. The guy's wife has to explain that her father was killed over something so stupid.

You're right, lots of people text in movie theaters. People that text in movies are rude and obnoxious, but they don't deserve to die, I wish they would just throw them out of the theater. You could expect tweens to behave like that ,but not grown ups and especially not a man in his forties. I apologize if that sounded misogynistic.
If you can't behave for two hours don't go to the movies or for that matter baseball games, football games ,basketball games etc..When you go out in public you should not have to be the center of attention.

Still no reason for killing someone. In the course of my life I have encountered more rude and obnoxious people than I can remember. Some of them have really p---ed me off, but none of them have died for it. If we all reacted the way that old man did we would run out of buriel space in short order. Fireing squad, justice, revenge, or whatever you choose to call it; that retired officer deserves it.
