I would like to go on record that I oppose most of this concept.
First, why should it be a requirement for a sole proprietor to have a DBA or other company registration and how does this protect anyone?
Why does it matter how many years someone has been in business?
Both of these have nothing to do with protecting anyone or whether the individual or business is able to meet their customer’s needs, nor does it mean that they are any more or less reputable. Anyone can go pay ~$10 and get a DBA. Whether they are a new business or have been in business for years has nothing to do with their capabilities. As far as,“fly-by-night” operators, we have already consumer trade laws that cover such things. Consumers should insure they understand who they are dealing with, but in either case, you still have to track them down to prosecute.
Whether a company (or sole proprietor) has liability insurance and worker’s comp is a contractual matter between the “company” and the customer. Worker’s Compensation Insurance is not mandatory in Texas and such ordinances are outside the their scope and exceeds the requirements of Texas State Law. Both of these measures can place an undue hardship on the lower class of sole proprietors who are working to support themselves. We must certainly keep in mind, the rising unemployment factors we are seeing and realize that there are many more that may be trying to just put food on their table and keeping a roof over their own heads. It is NOT the responsibility of the City to make requirements to mandate such matters that would normally be determined between the contractor and the consumer. It would serve to place undue hardships on the contractor and increased expenses upon the consumer, who might otherwise obtain quality work for less money, should they be willing to also accept some of the risks.
ILLEGALS - I would support almost any legislation that would reduce this problem However, there are already federal laws that cover this and they should be ENFORCED! This could be easily accomplished by our own police force, as well as our citizens. If you suspect someone is using Illegal Aliens, contact ICE (immigration) and report them! They will investigate and take care of the matter, including deportation of the illegal aliens and fines/jail for those who employ them.

Just another piece of information. We are trying to get the message out by TV and radio along with printed materials that are being handed out about the requirement that Contractors will need to register at the Police Department for a permit to do repairs in Deer Park. There is no fee but they do need to give information as to who they are and contact information. We are doing this to help prevent citizens from being ripped off by paying for a job and not getting the work done. So if you know of anyone that is doing work, you might inquire if they have the new permit. Other surrounding cities are doing the same. There are already some from out of the state that are walking the streets trying to get jobs.
Do landscapers also need a permit? I need a lot of work done!

So, it appears that you only wish to compete in a tongue wagging competition, as you continue to dart in with your sarcastic remarks and then chide me when I get the best of you. Get a life or go take another pill, if you have trouble dealing with it.

how about the paint and body shops, with all those junk cars facing center street.and polluting the air with paint fumes. will the city do anything about this.or will they be allowed to make the neighborhoods look trashy; especially when their trash is on city easment. these should be unexceptable and cleaned up.

Daily Horoscope for May 21

Cancer

Take care because it's a rather downbeat day. You feel as though you have the cares of the world on your shoulders, and maybe you have. You've certainly got to cope with a lot of responsibility and duty, and there could also be delays and disappointments that need to be negotiated. Yes, it's a fairly miserable day but try to rise above it, otherwise you'll soon start to feel really wretched and sorry for yourself.
