Did anybody else catch the drama at the Deep Gap Fire Department meeting tonight?

Ive heard there are problems down there not sure what all happened tonight. I would like to hear whats going on. I live in the district. I don't want my house to burn down because of conflict within the department even though there are only a few people that I would trust down there regardless the situation.

Well, Chief Parsons talked for about an hour, mostly bullsh!t. Then he proposed that the public vote out 4 members of the board and replace those members within firefighters. Then the meeting went wild. We voted, and no firefighters were elected. Chief Parsons said he was quitting and so were all of the firefighters and responders. He was seriously ready to not answer any calls because his guys didn't get the votes. There is another meeting next Tuesday to see if one firefighter will air on the board.

Oh yeah. Chief Parsons paid his wife and kids over 9 grand to paint the interior of the Fire Department

Tell me why anyone would think a fireman should not be represented on the board?

Because, the board is there to represent the community. Based on how many firemen and first responders who were willing to walk off the job last night, they do not represent the community. The people of the community voted, and Mike didn't get his way, and threw a hissy fit.

It's a conflict of interest, if the board of directors are made up of all fireman then the firemen get what they want instead of what the community needs or wants.

I'm not opposed to having 1 member of the department on the board. But let the people vote. Oh, wait. We did vote last night. The people didn't want a member on the board. Case closed.

Would a new chief fix the problems?

In my opinion, yes. He seems to be more of a "want" chief, than a "need" chief. However, I found it interesting that the only piece of equipment he requested that was denied by the board was a four wheeler. Everything else was either approved, or purchased without their approval.
Also, he seems to be lowering the morale of the members by trash talking the board members.

If the board of directors was all firemen they would all eat at red lobster every Friday night on the fire dept dime they would probably put in a automatic car wash for their personal vehicles and just buy what ever they want and nothing they need
They need a new chief that has some management skills a common sense so if they vote in all firemen they need to change the name to the deep gap fire club a place where anyone can hang out anytime of the day or night
Cold hard fact

The chief should be fired for spending tax payers money without approval from the board and the board must have people who are not on the dept so that the firefighters don't run wild and blow all the money
So if all the fire fighters want to serve there community then serve the community and we appreciate you but if you are doing it for your personal gain then the community can't really afford to have you

Wow, it certainly makes me question your opinion when you have such super grammar and punctuation. I really hope you are in charge of how my tax money is spent......

The board should be 50/50. Half community members and half firefighters. Period. No board should be a monopoly of either, and if anyone says that a board full of one side or the other would help our community is clearly speaking from their wallet. There are good men on both sides, as well as crooked and greedy men. The community should weigh the character of each man before casting a vote. No one should be a weak minded sheep and follow along because the herd is pressing them.

I strongly disagree. When you have firefighters deciding how to spend money, they will let their wants override their needs. Based on the amount of members who were willing to walk out the other night, they don't use their best judgement.
I heard Chief Parsons telling the public about all the things he wants, but we still have an ISO rating of 9. That's way too low. He can't keep asking for unnecessary things when he can't even lower the ISO rating.

I heard once, "A man either sleeps well or eats well."

Hope some people find something to sooth them to sleep tonight.

Now you're going off topic and making yourself look like a fool.

The community needs to approach the board members about electing/appointing a new chief and let the department fix itself. If the chief is not capable of leading the dept then he needs to be replaced its as simple as that! Get a chief who is qualified enough for the position and stop electing ones just because you know him and he is your friend.

I think that's the problem with the department. It seems to be more of a "good ole boy" system than anything else. Putting members in charge of financial decisions would make this problem even worse.

Exactly right!! The board should appoint the chief, members of a volunteer department should never vote on who the chief is.

I don't understand why people think there is no representation of the firemen on the board. There are 4 board members each with over 30 years as a Deep Gap fireman. They may be retired but they are still Deep Gap firemen at heart. To say that these men do not care about the firemen or the department is ludicrous.
