There's not too much you can do about the noise unless it's before 7:00 am and after 11:00 pm. Last week there were landscapers using a weedwhacker in my neighborhood at 6:30 in the morning. And we have loud music, motorcycles, car alarms, loud car stereos, sirens. Those car stereos rattle everything in the house. But there's really nothing that we can do about it, regardless of the laws that are on the books. All the cops would do is come by and tell them to be quiet. And then after the cops leave they start right up again. It happens no matter where you go and we just have to deal with it.

It's really amazing to me how inconsiderate people are. I always respect my neighbors (even the ones I don't like).

Yes, some are inconsiderate and only think about themselves.. I, too, respect my neighbors, but not the ones I don't like, because they probably don't respect me.

It would be a great source of revenue for these cities and towns to ticket and fine these noise polluters.

I know people have to mow their lawn! I mow mine. But when the neighbor behind me mows his, it takes him forever. Back and forth, up and down, back and forth.... When I mow mine it takes me about 15 minutes, and his yard is smaller than mine...And he's got an electric mower and the constant drone from it goes right through my head!...I'm telling you, I'd rather have water-boarding, it's sheer torture!

My neighbor does his at 8:00 Saturday mornings. The mower is bad enough but the leaf blower makes me want to scream.

So? What's your solution?

I often do sensitive audio recording at home. Try getting through eight or nine minutes of it and have a car stereo go by and destroy the recording. There are laws against noise pollution. Those sirens? They NEED to be that loud for the doped up morons driving the cars with no inspection stickers, no mufflers, and booming sound systems. But who's going to enforce them? I have turned in drug dealers in Weymouth. I turned in an arsonist in Weymouth, and tried to hand over finger prints from the perp. Nobody was interested. My suggestion... but ear plugs or move. Nobody in Weymouth wants to do their job from the Mayor to the lawn mowers. And make sure your taxes are paid up when you move.

wow jeffrey, seems like every noise bothers you...I have a simple solution: take a pencil, and jam it as hard as you can into each ear. Problem solved.

Motorcycles have loud mufflers so they can be heard before being seen. Traffic often cant see motorcycles as well as cars and the loud noise identifies them. Think of how many people die on motorcycles...the noise is worth a life.

This is for Jay
If they cannot be seen then maybe they shouldn't be on the road. It's more that they want to take over the whole road they ride like crazy. there's a two lane and each lane has a car next to each other and you see these "really nice bikers" squeezing in between just to get in the front also they get really loud when they go in front of certain houses. i think that is mean.in the middle of the night and they go by and wake up everyone. They are very inconsiderate. i wish someone could do something about it I agree with jeffrey.

If you can't see a motorcycle, you daydreaming. I ride, and let me tell you, we are always on the lookout for people like you who have that poor attitude towards motorcyclists. While night riding, I was cruising around 45 mph and noticed an SUV inching out of a side street into the road, she only had to look left(the direction I was coming from) as she was going to make a right hand turn. She continued inching out and then out of nowhere made her right turn. If I was'nt preparing myself while hugging the center line it could have been a bad situation. Loud pipes or stock pipes there are horrible drivers out there and we have to be prepared for the unexpected. Go rent a motorcycle for a day and ride for a couple of hours and you will see what we mean. I'm not the typical leather clad, long haired biker, that is stereotyped. I would not ride at night if I had aftermarket pipes because it really is very loud when you grab a handful of throttle. That being said just keep an eye out, there is a lot to process while riding and every bit helps. Ride safe.

I always gives motorcycles the right of way even if I have it. I also give them 2 or 3 times the distance. However I do not agree that the loud mufflers make them safer. They are unsafe, period.

I don't know where the rest of you folks live, but where I live (Everett MA) the cars and pickup trucks with amplified exhaust systems are a bigger problem than motorcycles. The loud boom boxes are also.

And to Jay I say this: How about you post your address here so some people with loud mufflers and boom boxes can sit in front of your house for a couple of hours. Then you can test your pencil idea on yourself and see if that works.

You do know we have a dog catcher here in everett. If you have a problem with a barking dog, stop being a whiner and either talk to your neighbor or report it to the dog catcher.

We talked to our neighbor twice about letting their dog off leash and doing its thing on everyone's yard. They didn't do a thing, so we called the dog catcher and she dropped by to ticket them.

There are already noise regulations on the books. Call the police to enforce them...additional regulation is pointless. You cant regulate consideration, and there are always going to be people who dont care if they wake the neighbors.

Most accidents involving motorcycles are not caused by the bikers, but by bad automobile drivers.

I like my neighbors even though they let their dog bark all the time. I don't want to report them so I guess I'll just complain.

I highly doubt you have the brain capacity to remember anything from the 70's.
