I think the Walpole Police are a joke - they are the ones who had DNA evidence in their hands that exonerated Ed Burke the morning they arrested him yet they wasted tax dollars on securing and executing a warrant anyway. They ruined this poor man's life - I know the family very well. He told me people STILL drive by his house and yell out "murderer"...

And now that the real murderer has been linked through DNA evidence, his defense attorney's strategy is to continually implicate Burke in hopes of planting the seeds of doubt. This poor man is still on trial.

Our justice system should be ashamed.

This case should scare everyone sh*tless as to our "justice system" and how it operates. HOW MANY OTHERS? How many innocent are behind bars that we'll never know about? the Innocence Project has exonerated over 300 ... and those were only the cases where DNA was available to prove innocence. HOW MANY OTHERS? Anyone who thinks the Massachusetts State Police and different, that the cops and prosecutors here acted differently than most, well .... wake the hell up.

The scariest part isn't that the police (Trp McDoanld in particular) withheld DNA evidence that completely exonerated Burke, it's the rest of the case they built to convict an innocent guy:

1. They had forensic odontologists (bite mark experts), some of whom had testified in death penalty cases in the past, who pontificated their opinions that Burke's teeth marked matched bites on the victim.

2. The police led witnesses through photo array line ups and ... SOMEHOW ... the witnesses identified Burke as having been at the scene -- when he was nowhere near it and the actual killer looked nothing like him.

3. The Walpole police had convicted him in the media, making statements intended to queer a jury that Burke was definitely guilty. Like the West Memphis Three case in Arkansas, they painted him as a killer because he was different and eccentric.

If it hadn't been for the DNA, this guy would have lost his life. If our system had any integrity, the cops involved in this near wrongful conviction would have been jailed themselves to send the message -- you cannot do this to people. Instead, Burke got $400,000 to shut up. 1% of what he deserved.

Obviously, our criminal justice system sets people up who they think are guilty.

People should be scared.... very scared. HOW MANY OTHERS?
