I completely agree with Melissa Healy. Foregiveness has changed the way I live my life and encourages integrity rather than spite.

Forgiveness is for whimps. Do you think your transgressor will think better fo you and follow a new, better path through life just because you've forgiven them? H*ll no! They will just look at your forgivness as an approval and acceptance of what they did and consider it an invitation to do it again.

I believe in the old addage; "Revenge is the best reward"

Someone hits you. You ask yourself, would I feel better if I forgave them or if I hit them back? Hmmm. I know which one makes me feel better.

Forgiveness does make you feel better under the eyes of God. However, the criminal may feel ok of you being around and letting go what had happened. My friends don't forget that this world is not fair and God will judge them and punish them throughout their life endevours. Patience is the healer for all wrongdoing. They will pay and suffer 2 times any wrongful act. Additionally, it is up to the body and mind to forgive and of course the all mighties power. Otherwise, you may live a life full of pain and suffer. God has great presents to those evildoers.

I'm an agnostic, but I am still a forgiver. I've always been one, and can recount many times when my ability to forgive has had positive benefits for me. For every jerk that is unaffected, there are five people who were positively affected by mercy toward them. What goes around truly does come around, and we create our own energy . . . good or bad.

Sometimes we can't forgive because we misunderstand forgiveness. I know that was me for many years. Forgiveness is not saying it was ok, that you were at fault, or that you have to let that person back into your life. It is letting go of that person and choosing not to let them have power over you. And yes, it is a choice, but a necessary one if we are to move on in our healing. Forgiveness is for me, not the other person, for all the reasons God and the research says. If we do not forgive, we become what we can't forgive, as evidenced by the comments wanting revenge. And forgiveness is a process. But step by step, you can get there. As a survivor of childhood abuse of every kind and adult abuse, it is something that I have learned to do FOR ME. And as a clinician who deals with hurting people, I also see its power. Forgiveness has emotional, spiritual and health benefits!
