Let school out early for summer.

better yet start schools later! School systems that go back after Labor Day save thousands of dollars in utility bills (Tulsa, OK saved $500,000 the first month when they returned to an after Labor Day start). There's also the millions that would be generated across the state in increased revenue and taxes from increased tourism dollars spent with a longer summer. All of which should/could filter into the classrooms and gas for busses!
A later start date is not just what is better for children it's better for schools, bus drivers (less heat and more money for gas) and the great state of Tennessee.

Don't blame it on diesel fuel. Cut all of these field trips, some kind of a ball game every day and night. This would save $$$$$. So stop crying.

AW quit your squaking. You voted for the oil barrons to run the country. So you got what you wanted. Uneducated kids make good soldiers in the future war coming up, started by the republicans. Remember the rich mans war is paid for by poor people blood.

Believe me

My thought is to not allow bus drivers take their bus home at night. I know of cases in which drivers live in another county and are allowed to drive 30-40 extra miles one way from the end of their route to their home. That's a lot of fuel. Leave the bus at the school and let them drive their own vehicle to work. My employer doesn't pay for my gas or wear and tear of my van in order for me to get to work!

Most of these are contract bus drivers. They get paid by the mile. More miles the more they get. Then they get more money when fuel goes up. So stop crying owners you get way over paid for your bus. I know of a contract bus driver that gets paid $20,000.00 a year in claiborne county takes 15 minutes to run their route. It's time for the tax payers to see what a waste of money is paid to contract bus owners. Don't cry to me, I know better.

1) Not everyone complaining is a Republican so they have a right to complain 2) Not every bus route only takes 15 minutes and I believe the purchase and upkeep along with fuel prices could be quite high! 3) I can't speak for all school districts or the sports programs, but when my child goes on a field trip they pay a bus fee. 4) You receives your education, or maybe you didn't, but you had a right to and so does my child. 5) Addressing an issue is not "crying"! Those of you who are so quick to jump on people, call names and offer up nothing as a solution are the ones who are "crying". 5) As for the comment that uneducated kids make good soldiers ... that is ignorant. Just what you want ... some kid out there that doesn't know anything with military weapons. An education is always a good thing to have even if you clean toilets for a living.

Let's take away from the kids because adults can't handle making quality decisions. Field trips supplement learning and the extra curricular activities not only give them something to do besides drugs, but it is a way for some to go to college who otherwise could not.

not to worry, bredesen's bep tax should cover it(remember the tax that was forced on smokers?)but wait, that's already fell short, because last year green county school's kept closing because of no money, school's all across the state kept shutting down because of no money to repair outdated heat/air systems,so everyone get ready for another forced tax increase to pay for fuel.after all we can't use money intended for really important stuff like bredesens bunker for something as unimportant as education can we?I know, lets tax cigars and booze, wait the gov. has both those in his hands now, lets just cut health care or veterans benifits, again. he's fond of that

Here in our county we have bus routes that pick up their first child at 6:10am drops off the last ones at school at about 7:45-8:00am. They maybe fifty mile plus routes with fuel almost four dollars a gallon. So yes they need some help.

EVERYBODY needs some help and fuel costs impact EVERYONE....EVERYDAY. It's going to drive up the cost of everything that we buy. Didn't we just spend billions of dollars blowing that place up....then billions of dollars helping them rebuild....not to mention the lives of our troops that have been lost trying to help "liberate" those people. When does the repayment process begin???!!! And why is diesel (which is a byproduct of the refinement process) nearly $1 more per gallon???!!! Don't give me the line of B/S about the demand for diesel exceeding that of gasoline either....'cause it's not. I wonder how many thousands of barrels that we saved them when we put out the well fires back in Desert Storm?....or has everybody forgotten that also??? Pisses me off to even think about. All I can tell you is be glad if you're not a diesel owner like myself.

Last year, the state was trying to buy about 125,000 acres of land in Campbell, Scott, Morgan, and Anderson counties. They had to pass a bond issue of $85 million to do it because they didn't have the money. Also, they decided to start funding the schools based on some new formula because of not having enough money to fund the schools, or so they said. Sevier county was hoping to get around 4 million dollars and only got a little over 600,000 due to this new formula. If the state official are so worried about education, as they like to claim, then why did they not fund the schools with the bond issue and then the whole thing about diesel would be a mute point. I think it is about time that we as citizens really examine who our representatives are and where thier interests really lay. We have the power to change these things if we would all just band together and say enough. I hope everyone will really examine what is important to them this fall in the elections nd make the right choice, regardless of what party affiliation they claim. Take the power back from the state and federal government and give it back to the people and the local governments where it can be put to good use and we would have less problems such as this one.

Campbell county: you signed a contract to run your bus per year. Run the bus for the contract and money you signed for or sell your bus. But you want because you make so much over your expense, you don't want the truth to be known. So don't tell me this I know better. I drove a bus.

Liability insurance for a bus owner has to be outrageous. When contracts were signed, they didn't have a crystal ball to tell them that the cost of fuel would skyrocket. Why are you so pissed off at what the bus owners make. You drove a bus for an agreed upon wage and you act like your mad because you didn't make more. Get over it. The bus owner deserves to make a profit. They do not buy buss' and take the responsibility of driving ids around because they feel the need to do a food deed. If you have never owned a business, you have no idea how much overhead there is and when the cost of fuel goes up it hurts them just like it hurts everyone ... unless your very wealthy.
