I have owned a local cs down here in macon for about 5 years now, and I pretty much know all of our normal customers, and I know their jobs and the such, but it just ticks me off when I see a woman drive up in a Mercedes or BMW, and come in and by about 20 dollars of junk food on a EBT card, then proceed to play about 50 dollars a day in Lottery tickets.

This is a problem in the african american community. the georgia ebt program is full of fraud and abuse. Dont get me started on how many people come into my store a day and ask if they can get money off of their ebt card. Guess the dope man doesnt take ebt.

And a sorta off topic questions, do you guys know that poor people with credit cards are a factor in high gas prices? Most of my customers doesnt have a bank account, or good credit, and I get about 20 Credit card chargebacks against my account a month from customers who pay with a credit card and just turn around and report the card as stolen. The local police refuse to arrest these criminals, and getting a lawyer isnt worth the time to get my money back.

Its not only African Americans. The hispanics get more than enough. Not all people who get food stamps have a mercedes or a car at all. There are really more people who are own food stamps that don't want to be. Sometimes in order to get ahead on somethings you have to take advantage of your resources. I can say maybe if these companies start paying more. The average job in georgia pays 8hr for 13hr work. I'm glad to say that I had to pay most of my way through college and yes I got on Food stamps to help me. I had a child in college. Lets face it things happen. My son was a blessing. I am proud to say that I'm 25 years old with a good job and I'm about to purchase a house. Things come easier for other communities. I went through all types of things. There are some people that just abuse the system. The truth id though the system has abused us and still do. Does that make it right ? No. So before we come down on a group think about everything. I'm sorry your store is going through that. Just make sure you don't own a store that is over priced because it's in a African American Neighborhood. The gas prices has nothing to do with us. Go talk to the people who is spending BILLIONS of dollars a year on War.

For the next month, document specific cases of EBT usage that you believe are suspicious. Also, talk to other store owners to confirm if they see the same patterns. When you've gathered enough convincing evidence, report it to DHR, and if the contact seems uninterested or you get no feedback within a few weeks, then try shotgunning it to several different media outlets. It sounds like just the sort of thing Bill O'Reilly would love to chew on. If you put it out there, it's only a matter of time before somebody puts it to good use.

Whoever wrote this letter I would just like to tell you that there are people out here that use them to support their family. I am a stay at home mom with two daughters. My husband works all day long. I can't afford to work because I would be working to take my little girls to a daycare so we do what we can and think the government for helping us or we might just go under before we turn 21. And believe me we do not do any drugs or drank any alcohol.

I found one of these cards on the ground at a Walmart. I had no idea what it was. Turns out its how people rip off the government. I did a search and found who it belongs to. I found their addresses and myspace. They live in a million dollar home and OWN a restaurant! Is there anyways I could report this person for stealing from the government?

Yeah right you need to stop lying, there is no way that you checked and got the persons information from a card, because the cards don't even have a persons name on it so before you try to lie check your facts. Some things tick me off yeah there are some people that cheat the sytstem but not everyone.

Hmmm, you're either lying or cheating, because if your husband works, you can't get food stamps. I can't even get them and I make less than 1000 a month and have a huge mortgage. Let me know who you are so I can report you to DFACS. I'm sick of women who are under 21 having babies and living off the dole. Get a freaking job like the rest of us had to do and put your kids in with mom. She can handle it. She raised you didn't she?

I'm a full-time medical student and 25 years old. I don't have any children. When my family got sent to war I got custody of three children. I did'nt work before I got them, and I don't want to work now. I use Food stamps for FOOD only I can make it on my own with out help but i needed help for the kids. So because i'm black i'm abusing the system? I don't think so. Even if i had a job i would apply for what is available, the worst answer they can say is NO. Thats a racist comment about black people. What about the bunch of white, hispanic, or black people i see in the office. I'm sure if you needed food on your table and had no other means of getting food dfacs would help you. Yes there are other people buying drugs, alcohol, candy or whatever with their card but don't narrow it down to 'black people'.

If these people and certainly the people who run these convenience stores had any brains, they would know you can't buy drugs or alcohol with the card, because the card has a name on it and the clerks would go to jail if they sold alcohol to the person. You are allowed to buy candy, but not drugs. cigarettes or alcohol and you can't trade it in for cash. If he gave her cash money back, he's the one who should be jailed!! If he doesn't like the lady buying candy, maybe he should go back to India and work for Dell.

God Bless you for taking care of those children while the family was at war.

Don't take credit cards. A lot of people don't anymore. Don't take checks either. Take debit cards or cash only. If you don't like people using their EBT card in your store, you don't have to accept it. Why don't you be thankful you have a job instead of hurling slurs at people who have qualified for food stamps. You can't get them unless you qualify and work 30 hours a week! Did you know that? Candy is also allowed by law to buy!

You need to sell your store to an American citizen who really needs a job and go back to India. WTF are you coming here for anyway taking our jobs away?

I sure what you are saying isn't true. My mother worked for the dept. for 30 years. She told me that if you own or buy at house they will put a lean on it for the benefits you received, if you get a lump some of money they take it. Plus the same card is issued for child support payments. Do you know if that person was just receiving child support? Let's not make-up stuff.

You have their names and are even able to get the EBT numbers. I would tell on them. My question is how is someone on public assistance, able to qualify to a car loan to buy a Mercedes or BMW?

the name is on the front but you cant find any information from it. calling the customer service # wont give you any facts except the balance. you can check google or myspace with a name but that doesnt mean it's the same person. many people have the same name.

you can get food stamps without working any hours a week. many circumstances are considered when processing a food stamp application, including wages, expenses, utilities, and many other factors.

i think before people criticize immigrants for coming to america and making a living, perhaps those people should get out and run the businesses themselves so that others dont have to. the indians and koreans wouldnt have such a monopoly on so many markets if more american-born citizens would get up and make an effort.

again, i have to comment in response to your posts. you apparently are not familiar with the food stamp program, or you would know more about how it works. if a married couple with children is only supported by one income, they can receive food stamps if their resources are low enough and the working spouse doesnt receive high wages. not all people can put their kids in with mom, as you suggested. i for one could not if i wanted to. my mother lives 12 hours away. i think that would be a heck of a commute, dont you? many people dont have someone to pawn their kids off on while they work. many people wouldnt disrespect their parents/friends/family by expecting them to babysit. also, many people dont have trustworthy family members. certainly you dont suggest they leave their children with less than trustworthy people in order to work so they dont have to receive food stamps?

people who are so judgemental should have to go through certain situations personally. i feel certain that they wouldnt feel the same way when they came out the other side.

oddly enough, you, who are so critical and suspicious of the poster to whom you replied, say you have a huge mortgage and make less than 1000 a month. banks and lending companies will not loan large amounts of money to people who make such a small wage. perhaps you lied or cheated in order to get approved for such a mortgage? only you know that for sure. i personally dont care, i only say that in hopes that you will think next time before you reply in such a biased and negative way. but you're probably one of those people who like to be in the middle of drama so you most likely wont think before you "speak" next time. too bad. this world has enough drama and negativity as it is w/o folks like you making it worse.

it isnt all black people are cheating the system and not all hispanic or white or what ever. Its those bad apples in the bunch that puts a profile on the rest. if you own a escalade or bmw or whatever you shouldnt have a ebt card. if your wardbrobe cost more then what i make in a week u dont need it. like the person said if you own a store keep records hell keep video to. if your an average joe forget it your wasting your time. if enough people step up someone will listen.

I really hate when women say, if i work i'd only be paying for child care! those are words that come from a lazy woman who knows she can get away with that B.S.! eventually u will come out on top and be helping your family if you got a job, stop lying to everyone. smart people know its a load of crap!

my wife had 2 go part time just so we didnt have 2 put our daughter in chuldcare. if we did put her in there it was going 2 cost us minimum $300 a month. there r programs that pays for childcare as long as u dont do over so many hours a week. but still u would still probably b on the ebt program. either way people go its a lose lose situation. y grip just deal with it and move on
