The voting rights act means nothing, is the voter doesn't understands who, or what he/she voting for. There is such a thing as "voter education", and I don't mean some chicken eating preacher telling them who to vote for.I've been at polls and people come and ask me who do I think they should vote for. This is a tragic example of voter ignorance. Most people cannot not even tell you what's the name of their local elected official representing them.An informed voter is a smart voter.

Which is true, but your responsendoesn't speak to the fact that the states are seeking to argue that this amendment isn't pertinent seining how racism is no more...clearly from this site alone I have seen with my two eyes that racism is still alive. You have too I hope.

Basically this is like a woman beater saying " I haven't beat my girlfriend since the restraining order so we don't need it anymore..."

My parents voted in the forties when I was growing up. I can emphatically say, that I have NEVER been turned around and kept from voting, and I've been voting every since Kennedy ran in 1960. Like I mentioned, voter education is the key, because if you know what's required in order to vote, then you'll be prepared. I have no problem with voter ID, as ever since I started voting, I've had to have ID in the form of a driver's license, or some other document proving who I was, and where I lived. So where is the discrimination?

Without the 13th amendment you could be required to do so whereas at that time, or shortly after, it was just a courtesy. Now, should this "restraining order" be overturned you could be turned away without any recourse...

And that's what the court is all about, how long will this continue,2613?

Since I voted BEFORE the voter's right act, what does the 13th amendment has to do with the voter's right act?

Those are two completely different things, wouldn't you think?

Like I've mentioned, voter education is sadly needed for some.

From what I've been told, there's not even a civics class anymore.

If that's the case, then I can see why so many are coming out of school not knowing too much about how this government runs.

All those old equal rights assurances have lived long past their need. Like affirmative Action, now it is only a tool for racial revenge.
The only way to remove racism from society is to let everyone be their on person, with no descrimination or preferential treatment because of skin color.
Let each achieve or fail by their own merits.

In my line of work I have seen white, black, yellow, etc fail yet blacks overwhelmingly excuse their failure as institutionalized racism against them when clearly this doesn't exist.
Individual racism exists in all races, that is what you see on this board.

I would suggest you live your life as I have so people call you to ask your opinion about how to vote on issues and candidates.

The voting rights act is biased in its blinder regional application. Remember the woman who admitted to voting multiple times for obama, and nothing was done about it? She was from Pennsylvania, not Mississippi.

You are the man-beast.
And you're the walrus and I am the egg man. And Diaper Dave is a douche, and "wassup" is legally retarded. And your point is?

Sonny, when are you going to grow up and act like a civilized adult?

I mean, this is kid stuff that you're doing, and it's merely an attempt by you to get a rise out of people that you don't even know. And that goes for the rest of the people here, did your parents teach to how to be civil?

He wouldn't have had to pound you if you'd quit following him around with a bouquet of flowers and a box of candy. It's over! Get over it Doughboy!

Based on the inordinate amount of attention Humpty Dumpty is now directing at you Eric, you’d better be careful. One day you may open the door and find our Jabba the Hut lookalike crouching on your porch, smiling from ear to ear with the stub of a one way bus ticket from Cali to Georgia sticking out of the pocket of his “Boy George” XXXL T-shirt. He’ll have his tooth polished and all of the dandruff brushed out of his mullet. He’ll be wearing his dress husky boy jeans and he’ll have his muffin top carefully tucked in all the way around. He seems very taken with the fact that you’re 51 years old and may very well find middle aged guys fascinating. You’ll know for sure if he has a twinkle in the larger of his mismatched, wide spaced eyes and is holding a box of candies in one hand and a bunch of posies in the other. Perhaps you should consider installing a trap door on the floor of your porch and perhaps two or three hungry Georgia gators beneath it. It could be that your only hope is that he continues to relentlessly pursue Lighteredknot from thread to thread.

U guys have been busy in my absence. The vra and 13th amendment go hand in hand hotlanta...it is applied to southern states who are notorious for their "biases". General lightened Druid if this went away we would have all rackets like that of this forum making laws. Do you honestly think that racism...especially in the sou is dead? I'll answer that for you...it's not. Clearly with the statements made here on topic since I've been a member.

Guess you didn't read the news about the black poll watcher voting for obama 6 times in Ohio in the last election.
