petsr4ever wrote: I agree, it's wrong to label young people in consensual relationships as sex offenders. It's really just a way for the parents of the girl in the relationship to get even with the young man their daughter has chosen to have sex with. Rapists and pedophiles, in my opinion, cannot be successfully "treated". As far as I am concerned, they should make these crimes Federal crimes and they should build special Federal prisons for them. There wouldn't have to be one in every state. Build these prisons with an industry, so that the prisoners could make a product that could be sold to the public. The money earned could help pay for the prisoners upkeep. Keep these guys in prison for life. No parole. Skip any kind of treatment progams since they don't work and would be a waste of time and money. Some of these prisons could be built in states that need more jobs (like North Dakota). Lots of open prairie, and small towns that have few job opportunities. It would be a win-win situation. These offenders would be behind bars for life. They would earn their own keep. Money would be saved by forgetting about any treatment plans (that don't work anyway), and the small towns in the general areas of the prisons would benefit by the job opportunities at the prison. That's a great idea....but is anyone listening? It's hard to get the attention of people who can and will do something that finally makes sense.

If I may say things are easily said when your not in the shoes of those you wish the bad things to happen to and I understand that those things should not happen to little children but everbody who have dated someone young should not be looked at as a child sex abuser.Poeple make mistakes and there are some who really regrets them after paying their penalty for the crime they committed and the chance to live in soceity as a modern ciziten should be and oppurtunity for sex offenders don't make it hard for us by banding us from our homes leaving su with no where to stay and no support and those who live in small rual areas with churches and schools on every block and you'll never know what's that like until you're in our shoes or it happens to someone you love and that same law you voted for applies to you or your love one.I am not trying to justify what one done should not be a concern for the safety of our children because my children is my everything and I love them with all my heart and soul and it hurts not being able to tell them that because the situation of being young and unmature and not realizing that I need to find out more about the girl you date and meet yhe parents but even parents will lie for their cildren these days and want tell you the truth concerning their daughter's age.Well don't think everybody are crazy sex offenders and did not mean to offend.I Pray that the law soften on sex offenders in georgia.

There is NO WAY an 11 year old lied about her age that well. You didn't question why she needed to be in before dark? You are lucky this was not my daughter.

It is good that she has you looking after her. She is a lucky girl. The ones who are on the list for having sex with an underage girl and it was consensual should not be part of that list. Neither should the ones that look at pornography. This is a total witchhunt and these so called crimes are less expensive to law enforcement to enforce then drug crimes. It is way out of hand and is totally unfair. Why is this group the only ones that have to register why not murderers and druggies? It should be a list for just child molesters and that is it!!

I pretty much covered this already in my post #12, HOWEVER, as long as the law states that the girl IS underage, it is a crime. Because she is underage she can not legally give consent no matter what she says or does. Your efforts need to be in the area of lowering the age of consent if that is your issue. Is is fair as long as the laws on the books are being followed. Not sure what you are speaking of about pornography......is that child pornography?

Underage (by law) juveniles between the ages of 13 and 17 can be and have been prosecuted as adults for committing violent crimes like murder. The law does not automatically allow the concept of undeveloped sense of consequences and thus not liable crimes simply because the perpetrator is not of legal age. So why shouldn't a sexual encounter between an adult and a so called underaged juvenile be judged on a case by case basis as to any harm being done by the sexual encounter. The underaged girl in the Polanski affair of decades ago who is now herself middle aged doesn't seem to fit the stereotypical profile of a victim of a pedophile. She seems to have lived and is living a full life. There also seems to not have been any long lasting ill effects in this case.

sex offenders will never change. If they did it once, it is 100% possible that they'll do it again. Ever the government( http://www.yellowise.com/results/Atlanta-GA/g... ) and legal council ( http://www.yellowise.com/results/Atlanta-GA/l... ) can help nail them to jail, the damage has been done. So if a Sex offender will be penalized, it should be the worst penalty of the judiciary so they won't have other victims in the future.

Art, which sex offenders would that be? Teens consensually making out, chatting online, or sexting? Or maybe the married couple parked late at night in a secluded place with no one else around except the police officer who "caught them?" Or maybe the parents who took a photo of their little girls in the bathtub? And what's with the websites you posted? Your using the yellow pages to support your mistaken beliefs.

How about the sex offenders that prey on children time and time again? Only they start killing the innocent children to keep from getting caught.

Sex offenders that abuse children and rape others will never be cured of their crime. Our forefathers put them to death, and then we let the liberals get control of our legal system. I think we should at least castrate them before putting them in prison.

Those who rape and murder children or anyone else should never be released from prison. Neither should serial molesters or rapists. However, it is terribly wrong to treat low level "offenders" the same as pedophiles and rapists. Those who say we should execute or castrate sex offenders show how little they know about today's sex offender laws. Does anyone really want to execute or castrate the teen or young adult who consensually touched or chatted online with an older teen? Yet that young person is on the sex offender registry the same as the pedophile and rapist. He/she faces the same restrictions and same difficulty finding employment and even a place to live. States report that very few on the registry are dangerous. A few years ago Vermont reported that fewer than 1% of their sex offenders are dangerous. Most never touched a child or forced a woman. Law enforcement needs to focus on those who are dangerous rather than wasting resources (including our tax dollars) policing and monitoring young people who only did what young people have always done. Laws must be reformed to better protect our communities.

There are some changes needed to be done with our system. BUT I do agree that a 25-35 year old that has sex with a 15-17 year old should be charged with child molestation. I do not care if the girl was not forced. THe man should not desire a child.

The young adult well into his/her twenties shows irresponsibility, poor judgment, and a moral lapse (in my opinion) when getting involved with a minor teen. But he/she is not a pedophile and not even necessarily a predator. One inappropriate relationship with a slightly underage minor doesn't warrant the sex offender label or the harsh penalties that go with it. This doesn't serve our communities nor justice.

I like the 3 strikes and your out rule...I mean, end, that's it, you're gone. The death penalty has it's place...and in MY opinion, it applies to serious sex offenders. I'm not talking about the 20 year old and the 16 or 17 year old, I mean the 20 plus year olds that abuse children.....under 15. I believe a 16 or 17 year old knows what's going to happen if she tempts a man. I'm not saying it's her fault, I'm saying that the 16 & 17 year olds I know, know the score. A young man's life shouldn't be ruined because of a young girl who flirted and got mad.

A man in his 20's knows the law and knows right from wrong. If he is sleeping with a 15 year old regardless if she agrees, he is a pedophile and deserves to be punished. I have a 15 year old. If a aman in his 20's shows up to see my daughter, he will meet my shotgun. I do not play when it comes to my kids.

If you're that concerned about youthful promiscuity, then perhaps you should spend your efforts changing the part of the law that labels them offenders rather than asking ME to just brush it off. I'd rather be informed. In fact, I have one of those "youthful" persons you speak of living about a mile from me. I'd rather know that than not. It's really disturbing to me to think of the folks you're defending. You're making excuses for young folks not being aware of the law and suggesting we should just brush it off. Sort of like saying, "I didn't know that stop sign was there, so I can't be guilty of running it". Don't chalk this up to hormones, chalk it up to education, or lack thereof. I don't accept the fact that kids aren't aware of the consequences of their actions (regarding sex and age) and don't realize this will stick with them from now on. If they ARE this stupid, perhaps being labeled an offender will be a GOOD thing, alerting us all to their BAD JUDGEMENT!!!!! Come on, join us in reality. I'd rather you defend dog fighting.......... And don't take a picture of your 2 year old in the tub as you may wind up on that list as a child pornographer. the whole damn thing gets out of hand. look at the post here. kill, shoot, feed glass, crash cars kill, what the hell? most posters here appear just as bad or worse than the accused, and you know the justice system? this whole forum makes me sick, I will never return, so don't bother replying with some sick comment.
