Decatur Residents Vs. Common Sense

As a home inspector I have the opportunity to inspect hundreds of homes in Decatur and DeKalb county every year.
I'm not quite sure what's in the water in DeKalb County but compared to surrounding counties, it seems the residents of Decatur and/or DeKalb County have lost a lot of common sense.
Millions of dollars are being spent renovating older homes in Decatur with hardly any attention being given to the structure: all on the interior or cosmetic details.
The crawlspaces, foundations, roof structure, plumbing and electrical systems are forgotten about in the pursuit of granite counter tops and glazed tiled showers. And when you place granite counter tops on an island kitchen counter on 2x8 floor joists over 50 years old, you'd think someone would consider adding additional support under the new island counter: usually not!
And when it comes time to sell these homes, all of the clutter strewn throughout the house and the child protective devices that prevent the house from being inspected is incredible.
If you truly want to sell your house, making it as accessible as possible for buyers and their inspectors will help YOU!!
Before you waste thousands of dollars on the interior of your house, you're well advised to consult with Code Certified home inspectors that can help you with your planning.
Upgrading the structure, plumbing and electrical systems in older homes is a much better investment than granite counter tops!
