WASHINGTON -- House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) only needed a single night's sleep before throwing cold water on one of the most significant proposals put forth by President Barack Obama in his State of the Union address Tuesday night: raising the federal minimum wage to $9 per hour and pegging it to inflation.

Republican party wants to and is killing the middle class on purpose ! They support big business that wants to make billions and pay little like Walmart !

And they sell the lie that 9.00hr will cause business not to hire.....what a load of sh_t
they sell to their own dumb people and y'all keep supporting them....none of them will work for 9.00hr but I am willing to bet there is a whole lot of Republican voters that will !

No wonder the Republican Party is almost dead !

So if enough people are offended by Walmart business practices, you band together and boycott. You can't legislate private businesses. Econ 101. And make minimum wage whatever you want, there will come a time when inflation will surpass it.$25/hr sounds great until your rent is $2000, fuel is $8/hr, and a loaf of bread is $10. Is there a society anywhere without poor people?

I have never heard of or know of head of household in the middle class making $9/hour. I pay my gardeners more than that, why would Wrongwing want me to lower my wages? Wrongwing must live in a very substandard neighborhood. I suggest we not have any minimum wages and pay people what they are worth.

Middle Class, WTF !!! Since when did the middle class concist of people earning minimum wage ? Minimum wage jobs are not now, and never were supposed to bring people into the middle class, They are for new workers to learn skills that can be applied as they work there way up the ladder.

I pay a Mexican guy and his son $45 to mow my lawn, and it takes them less than an hour.

I'd love to pay an American man the same money for the same job. I'd be willing to pay an American college girl in tight pants even more just for the added show.

However, all the business cards that get left on my mailbox are from guys with Mexican last names. Every damn one of them.

Apple Inc. doesn't even care about minimum wage. They pay their Chinamen about $20 a day to build their iPads. That does come with room and board, in case any of you guys are interested.

I think there is a "FOOD" PRICE bubble. The PRICE of food is way out of wack compared to any other inflation it seems.

Like how to interview, show up on time, interact with others, etc..... Because that's what my minimum wage job when I was a teenager did for me.

what a particular skill set is worth is an economic factor. It is not a lesson in humanities. Bagging groceries is not going to pay the same as a college professor.

Trying to converse with Rightwing is almost as bad as reasoning with the nut. Logic is wasted on them. They are blinder oriented as a Missouri mule on having the government demand regulations on our companies and these regulations are driving companies overseas faster than you can say Jessie Jackson, Jr. is a crook. I pay people what they are worth, and am against government regulations. BTW, all of my employees make above the minimum wage.

Inflation, lack of competition between farmers caused by the government support prices for farmers, and the mandatory manufacture and use of ethanol causes the escalation of our food prices. Remember the price of gas, meat, and milk when obama was elected? It gets higher each day he is in office. I predict he will soon not only give his loyal supporters "free" phones but "free" gas. Don't forget obama not allowing the flow of oil from Canada via the pipeline. We are paying for his lack of economic leadership.

I guess you have seen the $.50/day Walmart and Wrangler are paying workers in Bangladesh to make their products. These products should carry the country of production on a label in a conspicuous location on the product when sold in America. I had rather pay $25 for a pair of jeans made in America than $10 for a pair made in China or Bangladesh.
Everything in Walmart is made with foreign slave labor.

SAN FRANCISCO/DUBLIN (Reuters)- Apple has operated almost tax-free in Ireland since 1980, welcomed by a government keen to bring jobs to what was then one of Europe's poorest countries, former company executives and Irish officials have said.

Chief Executive Tim Cook faced criticism from a Senate subcommittee in Washington on Tuesday over the iPad and iPhone maker's tax practices, which had been shrouded from full view behind secretive tax-exempt Irish-based corporate entities.

There is a sort of food price bubble and there is one word that largely explains it: methanol.

So much grain is being used to make fuel to burn in cars now that cattle feed lot operators and hog parlors are having to a hard time getting feed for their animals. They have had to reduce the number of animals being fed, and as a result there is less meat on the market. What there is costs more.
