sick of it--I am a life-long Christian. I believe that we are called to treat one another with respect and kindness. While my remark about Catholicism was tongue-in-cheek, I don't think that there is anything on that list that has not been carried out by Papists, or other Christians, at some point in history. Yet we persist in overlooking the log in our own eye to burn out the speck we see in the eyes of our Muslim brothers and sisters.
It is true that Geller and Spencer have collected a coterie of "former Muslims" to adorn their daises. It should be disturbing, however, that a number of them have holes in their stories of abuse and torture as well as escape. The "former Muslim" side show in America is highly vulnerable to outright frauds such as Ergun Caner--who invented a Muslim childhood practically out of whole cloth to boost his conversion story. The truth is the man grew up in the suburbs of Columbus, Ohio and had less contact than he wanted with his estranged Muslim father, now deceased. That is very sad. But it doesn't sell. What he was able to sell was an invented story of growing up and being trained outside the US to be a violent jihadist.
Geller's reluctance to have authentic American Muslims in the room while selling her blather (and collecting donations for her "rescue" efforts) is that they are likely to challenge her, from a very rational perspective, by pointing out that the religious treatment of women in American mosques is more LIKE the treatment of American Christian women (and American Jewish women) has been (and in some cases still is) than different from it.
But that doesn't see much either.
I'm sorry to sound insulting, but your approach to this is completely spineless. Sure, christians did most of the things we decry in muslims today. Key word in the sentence being "did." Christians largely stopped doing those things after the enlightenment. Muslims, on the other hand are still doing all those unacceptable things TODAY in the name of their god and prophet! As an alleged christian, HOW do you countenance the behaviors and beliefs of muslims in the world today? As an alleged christian, HOW do you reconcile the thousands of human rights abuses perpetrated by muslims every day around the world? The persecution of christians in Nigeria by Boko Haram...the persecution of the coptic christians in Egypt by muslims...the refugee status of christians who once lived in iraq...the problems christians have in indonesia with not being able to build churches...the persecution of christians in Pakistan where they are routinely thrown into jail to rot just because they don't believe mohamed was the perfect person....HOW ON EARTH can you defend this cult when the heaping mountain of evidence of their human rights abuses grows more immense every day? You must know in your heart that these things are wrong. Don't let the sin of relativism and political correctness stand in the way of YOU being able to objectively judge right from wrong. And don't fall for the lie that it's "a handful of extremists" perpetrating all the outrages. A crowd of 50,000 people rioting and killing each other in the street because someone inadvertently burned a book is NOT a "handful of extremists." Remember, all the is necessary for evil to triumph, is for good people to do nothing. I will NOT stand by and do nothing while this evil, ungodly CULT spreads its lies and deceit. I was raised better than that.

How do you countenance the killing and torture or child witches by Christians in Nigeria? How do you account for US dollars flowing to that country from churches in the US to aid is such missions?

How can you accept the Pope's rejection of the Leadership Conference of Women Religious at the same time that he re-embraces the anti-semitic Society of St. Pius X? And how do you excuse his career-long cover-up of pedophile priests?

I for one do not choose to do so my rejecting the entire Body of Christ. We have things that we need to deal with, as do Muslims.

We cannot encourage the ability of Christians around the world to build churches by banning the building of Mosques in the United States.

We cannot pretend to be concerned about the human rights of Muslim women and not even allow them into the discussion.

If you read the initial article, you would discover that an Arab group sponsored a similar conference, across town, on the same day as Gellers--in order to counter her one-sided propagandistic posturing. Their meeting was open to the public.

Intolerance in the Quran
Those who disbelieve the revelations of Allah, Allah guideth them not and theirs will be a painful doom.--16:104

The Quran, virtually on every page, is a manifesto for religious intolerance.

"Show us the straight path, The path of those whom Thou hast favoured; Not the (path) of those who earn Thine anger nor of those who go astray."
Muslims generally interpret "those whom Allah has favored," "those who earn Allah's anger," and "those who go astray" as Muslims, Jews, and Christians, respectively. 1:6-7

Don't bother warning the disbelievers. Allah has made it impossible for them to believe so that he can torture them forever after they die. 2:6-7

Allah has sickened the hearts of disbelievers and increased their disease. He is a spiritual anti-doctor. 2:10

Allah has blinded the disbelievers. "Allah taketh away their light and leaveth them in darkness, where they cannot see, Deaf, dumb and blind." 2:17-18

If you try to compose a surah that is better than those in the Quran, and then fail, Allah will burn you forever if you in the fire that he has prepared for disbelievers, whose fuel is men and stones. 2:24 <

They who disbelieve, and deny Our revelations, such are rightful Peoples of the Fire. They will abide therein." 2:39

Allah stamped wretchedness upon the Jews because they killed the prophets and disbelieved Allah's revelations. 2:61

Allah turned Sabbath-breaking Jews into apes to be despised and hated. All modern Jews are descendants of apes (or all modern apes are descendants of Sabbath-breaking Jews). 2:65-66

Christians and Jews (who believe in only part of the Scripture), will suffer in this life and go to hell in the next. 2:85

"Allah has cursed them for their unbelief."
Because I disbelieve in his bullshit, Allah has cursed me, along with nearly six billion other non-Muslims. 2:88

The curse of Allah is on disbelievers. 2:89

"They have incurred anger upon anger. For disbelievers is a shameful doom." 90

Jews are the greediest of all humankind. They'd like to live 1000 years. But even that "would by no means remove the doom." 2:96

Allah is an enemy to the disbelievers. 2:98

Allah has revealed "clear tokens." Only evil people are disbelievers. 2:99

"For disbelievers is a painful doom." 2:104

Don't question anything Muhammed says or choose disbelief over faith. 2:108

There are over 500 more hate teachings by Mohammed, to many to list them all. see link.

Trisha--watch the video and then evaluate how it stands up against what Geller claims.

And then, look into Geller's claim that Badder supports honor killing. I personally have no idea--however I know that Geller routinely makes such accusations with absolutely no factual evidence.

Most likely--following Geller's typical pattern, he once lived on the same street as someone who was once seen talking to someone who was once in the same room as someone who comes from a country where honor killings are in fact an issue.

However, if you can show that the man actually, in word or deed, supports the (non-Islamic) custom of honor killing, perhaps you would be so kind as to provide the evidence.

K--I am skeptical of the "true and harrowing realities" of the Muslims on the dais simply because so many of those who surround Geller on the speaker circuit have been found to be factually in error regarding their stories.

Geller hand-picks so-called "tame Muslims," those who have renounced Islam and are willing to stand up in public and blame all of Islam for whatever they have experienced--or claim to have experienced.

Again the irony--and perhaps actual fraud--is that Geller has set up a charitable foundation for the purpose of outreach to American Muslim women for the purpose of "rescuing" them from physical dangers she claims hold them hostage to the evil Islam. That she will not permit Muslim women in the room--while discussing their plight--simply heightens the sense that we should be paying attention to that woman behind the curtain.

Here is an example. Walid Shoebat appears frequently at Geller's events:

Born in the West Bank, the son of an American mother, he says he was a Palestinian Liberation Organization terrorist in his youth who helped firebomb an Israeli bank in Bethlehem and spent time in an Israeli jail.

That billing helps him land speaking engagements like a May event in Rapid City -- a forum put on by the state Office of Homeland Security, which paid Shoebat $5,000 for the appearance. He's a darling on the church and university lecture circuit, with his speeches, books and video sales bringing in $500,000-plus in 2009, according to tax records.

"Being an ex-terrorist myself is to understand the mindset of a terrorist," Shoebat told CNN's "Anderson Cooper 360."

But CNN reporters in the United States, Israel and the Palestinian territories found no evidence that would support that biography. Neither Shoebat nor his business partner provided any proof of Shoebat's involvement in terrorism, despite repeated requests.
Back in his hometown of Beit Sahour, outside Bethlehem, relatives say they can't understand how Shoebat could turn so roundly on his family and his faith.

"I have never heard anything about Walid being a mujahedeen or a terrorist," said Daood Shoebat, who says he is Walid Shoebat's fourth cousin. "He claims this for his own personal reasons."
CNN's Jerusalem bureau went to great lengths trying to verify Shoebat's story. The Tel Aviv headquarters of Bank Leumi had no record of a firebombing at its now-demolished Bethlehem branch. Israeli police had no record of the bombing, and the prison where Shoebat says he was held "for a few weeks" for inciting anti-Israel demonstrations says it has no record of him being incarcerated there either.
