Police Chef Michael Gust was here in Myrtle Beach 2005 with his girlfriend Paula Atkins.
Paula was found dead outside of Suck Bang Blow, a local biker bar, here in the area.
Paula's death is still unsolved.
I, as well as others, in the Myrtle Beach area have wondered if at all her death had made the news in his home town?
I find it very hard to believe that a "Police Chief's" girlfiends death has gone unsolved for this long.
If you have any knowledge of articals written on Paula please go to myrtlebeachonline.com and leave a comment on the discussion board under WOMAN FOUND DEAD.

It doesn't appear there is much news on this horrific and unsolved death of Paula Adkins in Dearborn Heights, Mi. The family deserves an answer to this terrible loss.

Wow, is there such a lack of interest up there in Dearborn Heights that no one is aware of the loss of the life of Paula Adkins nearly 2 years ago? Just amazing and sad.

To: All who have expressed heart driven help
From: MissingPaula
I am the twin sister of Paula Adkins, the woman found dead on the side of the road by Suck, Bang and Boom bar on May 16, 2005. On behalf of my parents, my sister and my niece, I want to thank all of your for your care, concern and sympathy expressed to me and my family as a result of this terrible and tragic family loss. The pain of my sisters death has only been compounded by the lack of an answer. My niece, Paula's daughter, has been left without a mom, without the daily care and love of the person who brought her into this world and without an answer. She deserves and is entitled to know what happened to her mom. We are actively looking for answers and implore anyone out there who may have any clues or information which can lead to what happened on that night, to please email me direct via this forum or post it.
There are pieces to this puzzle still not found, but we will find the answer with your help and the help of God and the full picture will be put together.
I look forward to any information, no matter how trivial it may seem, you may have to offer my family.
With sincere thanks and gratitude

Finding this kind of late in the game. I don't remember hearing anything about this case however I was not an avid news watcher at the time. I live in Dearborn Heights and I have lived here most of my life. My son passed away in June of 2007. He was 20. He died of a lethal cocktail of anti-depressants and pain medication that he obtained from the home of so called friends. His death was never investigated by the police department. And I (his mother and next of kin) was never notified of his death. My family was never contacted at all. After numerous calls to the police department my husband made a personal appearance to speak with the detective. At that time my husband was asking questions about the case and found out that it had been closed in August. We were never notified of this and when my husband asked why , he was accused of coming down there to argue. The detective also stated that he was not going to re-open the case because it was six months old. We are seeking answers and would like to know why our son's life was not worth thier time. We received a call from the detective "IN Charge" but all he did was sugar coat the whole thing. It seems to me after reading all of these posts on Paula that the PD here knows all too well how to sweep something under the rug. I beleive at the time of Paulas death Gust was not the chief but has since been promoted as well as many of his long time friends on the force. I wonder if any of these friends were with him on that trip to Myrtle Beach.
I forgot to mention that my son suffered from bi-polar illness and the local PD here had used my son on many occasion as thier snitch. I just wonder if he was currently snitching at the time of his death which would explain why they would want to sweep it under the rug. Being actively involved in snitching would hold the PD responsible for his death.
The link between these two cases seems to be that they are sticking together to cover up their mistakes.

Carie,
Your stated that your son took a mix of drugs so do NOT go and try to blame the police. I understand that it is hard for you but maybe you need to look within for you answers. Blaming others that had nothing to do with it is not right. You can be upset with the way they handled talking to you and your husband but they have nothing to cover up. Your sons death was his own fault.

I never blamed the police for his death. I am fully aware that he took the pills. However, he was provided a prescription drug illegally. And those people should be held responsible for thier actions. As for the investigators, well they did not do thier job. PERIOD. They screwed up. And they should have to take responsibility for thier mistakes also. I don't need to look within myself for answers. Maybe you should educate yourself. You automatically assume that my son was a drug addict when in fact he was not. Methadone kills whether it be one pill or 3. Methadone does not mix with anti-depressants. It's called a lethal cocktail. It is used these days for pain management.
People like you that blame the deceased is why the world is so full of drug dealers to begin with.
People like you attack the weak obviously.
My son's death WAS in fact his own fault however he paid for his mistake with his life. My concern is that I am still here and so is my family. We are left to deal with the decision that my son made and the decisions of those that were involved and still living. If I am to hold my son responsible for his mistakes then, the others need to be responsible for thier part also.
I do not feel that I owe you or anyone else and explanation. However, I take this time to educate you and open your mind to how would you feel if it were you? Put yourself in my place. Would you feel differently if my son was killed in a car accident? Or murdered? How would you feel then? Would it be ok to let the person go that caused the accident or commit murder? Would it be ok for the police to not notify the family? Would it be ok for the police to close the case without investigating? If it were somone you love, I'll bet not.
Thanks for your opinion

If it was some that I loved I would not be thinking with a clear head. Which you obviously are not. I did not assume that your son was a drug addict, I just feel that no matter who gave him the drugs it is HIS own fault because he chose to take them. I am sorry that you are left to deal with is actions but to say that anyone else is repsonsible for what he did is not right. Also from reading the other post your son's live in girlfriend was notifed of his death. While it is sad that you were not your son is a adult and the police did what was needed.

Anon, it seems that all you want to do is argue. You go thru the posts looking for things to defend your original mean and hateful post. You pray on the weak and then you attack. I am not going to argue with you because you obviously just want to upset me. I know exactly what happened to my son. I don't need anyone to tell me. And just so you know, my son didn't have a live in girlfriend and even if he did the law states that you must contact the legal next of kin, which would be me. He lived with us and his legal address on his license(which he had with him at the time of his death) happens to be my address. So no defense there. They screwed up. PERIOD.
This post is about Paula Adkins not my son. So have some respect for those people and quit trying to argue with me.
I hope that you find some compassion in your life. It can be pretty dreary out there without it.

Well Carie if you want this to be about Paula then quit talking about your son. You brought it up with your post. Claim that two cases are in any way the same is not true.
