In my opinion, I believe that it is way past time that we get a police officer in the schools at the JR and SR High schools. The things that have been going on there with the drugs, bullying, and we all know about what happened Friday. I know that it has been brought up @ school board meeting before and the board decided that it wasn't needed. There are many schools across the state have school resource officers who are police officers who interact with students. And most run the Students Against Drunk Drivers program. Are we as parents going to wait until "we needed" one to do something about it?

My opinion? My opinion is we need to get God in school. Also home training. These are both things that start right there at the parents finger tips. I believe if you put your knees on the ground in front of your kids it will be lived and carried on through his school and his/her whole life. I child may forget what you told them, when something happens or even who someone is, but they will never forget how they feel. How they feel when they know they are forever forgiven and have more to live for than themselves. I do not fear but I could tell you I could never imagine the hurt it would cause to lose a child, my precious innocent baby. But I will tell you that the way we have made OUR GOD unwelcome in our jobs, homes, schools, courthouses, and EVEN some churches things will only get worse until we decide to go back to the principled our country was founded on. I'm saying this definately not on a "high horse" for I'm a guilty sinner the same as everyone else but let's make it right

I agree, but you can still pray in school and at work. Nothing has stopped me from praying.

I agree! I don't think it's the individual as much as what we've let happen, I remember when people weren't pressing Xmas down my throat, when there were 10 commandments on the wall at every courthouse, and when we said in God we trust and meant it.

There should be a school resource officer but the school board will not allow it. It would prevent the police department from responding to every incident at schools and provide security throughout the day. DeWitt will not do it until it's too late though.

The schools are going down hill. My children will be homeschooled before i send them to dewitt. Even some of the teachers spread gossip and have their favorites. The school is only worried about small things because they dont want to deal with the larger issues. Police officers should be at the schools because i think more kids will behave properly.

Seems to me that a resource officer will allow the police to worry about the rest of the city and still have a police pressence at the school. You could call the police dept when more officers are needed.
But that being said, the school board will probably say that the district can't afford an SRO and the vote to give the superintendent a 16000 raise again.
This is the reality that we live in now, you can either be proactive or reactive, then its probably too late.

Why did the middle school have drills but the elementary school did not? They are the ones that wouldn't know what to do!!!

If u ask me I think there should be armed security gaurds at the schools and yes this is my opinion but each teacher should be trained in a conceald weapons class to be able to carry a gun. Opinions r like butt holes everyone got one and that is mine. Schools for our childeren are not safe anymore. Scares me to death to know somethin like that could happen in DeWitt I got 4 girls Idk wht is do if I lost one.

you should be ashamed of yourself for even posting a smart remark like that. We do need God back in schools and in America. Our nation was founded believing in God and we should continue believing in him.

This would put the faculty as well as the students at ease. Teachers need to be able to focus on teaching and not all the other things that go on.

It's a shame but we do need officer'S' in our schools. I'm from Dewitt but live in a larger city where we have 4 different high schools and then private schools to attend. I believe everyone of our schools have officer(s) in the building and on campus all the time and it makes me as a parent feel much better andholds our youth to a certain standard. Like it or not, it's working. There is no such thing as being too prepared as we've seen with our children in Conneticut. And GOD is a huge player in this wether you're a believer or not. When our government allowed him to be taken out of different areas of our lives our communities and country has been on a steady decline and it's because God's laws work. They have worked for centuries in keeping order and our very own laws were founded and established upon him and everything we have is inscribed "in God we trust." Take that away and we are a nation turned from God therefore out of the arms of his graces as a country. So absolutely, things are going to happen that we find appaling. I pray for our nation but take comfort in the fact there are still millions of people who are within Gods love and hopefully this makes others repent and as well as our lawmakers who stand on there principles of doing away with God. This is our results: a lawless nation. I'm baffled when we sit back and really ask "How and the Why?" We already know that answer, or should. God bless thesefamilies who are facing horrific grief and heartache and the survivors who are left to piece their lives back together.I pray God's arms and love is wrapped around them and our nation.

dewitt cant even address the real problems in town..all the cops do is stop and harrass people and write tickets to meet their quota..all they care about is money..patroling the schools isnt there priority or in there budget..it makes no money for them so its not gonna happen...UNLESS THEY CAN GO TO SCHOOL AND START WRITING OUR KIDS TICKETS, SO THEY CAN GET MONEY, AND PUT THEM ON HOUSE ARREST WITH FINES AND PROBATION FEES..THATS ALL THEY CARE ABOUT IN DEWITT.

Your such a fool. Dewitt doesn't have a quota. Some officers hardly even write tickets. That's why the court has shortened the court days to once a month. Get your facts straight.

please earnest golden told me thats why he left the force and went to work at the jail because dewitt pushes you to write soo many tickets, he told me its a really big issue. He didnt like the fact of writing tickets to honest hard working people...plus all you gotta do is go sit in court on tuesday and watch court and you will know that this town is all about taking folks money...
