It doesn't matter if they are a certified teacher or clasified employ still nieces and nephews are not allowed just thier own children . I would also like to say that the classified staff or very important to the school district also the assistant superintendent knows about this she has been told several times about several kid that do not live in the district and did not put a stop to it just kinda pushed it under the rug things like that also. Red to change just saying and I think the principal should correct the dress code they see there teachers everyday they know the dress code it hasn't changed they just don't Inforce it like they did when noble was there they were scared of him so they went by the rules
Even the adminstrators were intimidated to a point (except Andy J's cronies) by implied threat of job loss which makes everyone inaffective in their jobs regarding certain issues. Hopefully now that several things are out in the open things will change for the better once again and the good ol' boy system that has reestablished itself in the schools will be ousted!!

Do any of you actually even know the superintendent? Take a look at the schools and see what he had done in the last five years. We have new buildings, a great track behind the high school and fantastic improvements in curriculum. Maybe his family is a bit over the top but do any of you want your job performance to be judged by your families activities?
I think he is great very Involved in all departments

The De Soto Board of Education has hired the services of a law firm to guide it while it determines the fate of Superintendent Andy Jay Arbeitman.

Arbeitman was suspended from his position and placed on paid administrative leave on May 29.

The board voted unanimously at a June 5 special meeting to hire the Hillsboro-based Wegmann Law Firm to advise it while it decides its next move.

“There was no vote taken on any other issues,” said assistant superintendent Trish Burkeen, who is performing the superintendent’s duties in Arbeitman’s absence.

Burkeen said the Wegmann firm has been working with the district on a case-by-case basis, but board members figured “it would be better to have a contract in place to take care of this issue.”

In addition, the Leader has obtained a letter dated May 7 and sent to board members that outlines several grievances against Arbeitman. The letter was obtained through a request filed under the state’s Sunshine Law (the open meetings and records statute).

The authors of the letter, who did not sign their names but called themselves “Concerned De Soto Citizens,” define themselves as a group of “concerned patrons, parents and employees.”

Among the grievances registered against Arbeitman, the letter writers allege that he disregarded school policy, did not maintain professional confidentiality, took credit for others’ successes and ideas, made questionable ethical decisions and has poor communication skills.

Yes, Burns, Twellman, Noble, & Arbeitman have been the sups during my DeSoto years. Nobel was definitely the most effective. He treated everyone with respect, knowing that it takes everyone to make a successful school district. He was honest and straight forward holding all accountable for the jobs they were hired to do. You could disagree with him but still a high level of respect was maintained on both sides. His leadership resulted in high student achievement and employees being proud to be associated with DeSoto School District;in essence the District being respected by others in Jefferson County and throughout Missouri. These traits have been missing during Arbeitman's tenure; most have grown to mistrust the sup's office even though Arbeitman was friendly enough, he was not an effective leader. Makes me wonder how things would have been IF the Board had taken Noble's recommendation for his replacement--what would the district have been spared during these past few years???????

Soory, I do not remember the name--only the fact the Board did not follow his advice. Does someone else remember the name & where he was working at the time?

Asst. Supt Trish Burkeen will be DeSoto's Supt for the 2012-13 school year. Her credentials qualify her for the job, in fact her credentials meet the job requirements better than Arbeitman's.

BUT you are here picking up gossip mixed in with the facts!!! You may live in the clouds and believe he is not responsible for his paid administrative leave or ultimate resignation if want, but the facts are speaking for themselves and the DeSoto District will benefit from his leaving so his messes can be cleaned up ethically. I do not believe his family should be involved unless they have been instrumental in preventing him or others from doing their jobs effectively.

I'm sure, since you are aware of the unethical actions of him, that you are equally concerned with the unethical actions of other male administrators at the grade school. I'm hoping the new Super will clean things up. After knowing what I know, I have no pity for them.

Maybe who ever takes over for Andy J.will look into the Athena husband and wife teachers that got caught going into the computer system at school and changing their son's grade. They got a little slap on the hand by Mrs Mahn . They should have been fired. Andy J's son got caught with a knife at school and anyone else would have been suspended but Andy J's son didn't get suspended. Mrs Mahn has lost control of Athena. Please someone tell the board there are changes that need to be made at Athena. The moral is awful at Athena.
