Making the Grade, Desoto Superintendent Contract
by Craig Cheatham

Posted on September 16, 2010 at 11:21 AM

Desoto superintendent Andy Arbeitman receives a salary of $145,530. His three year contract does not guarantee him a pay raise. In the contract, the Board agrees to pay the costs of state and national memberships and meetings up to $3,000 a year. The superintendent also receives a $500 a month auto allowance. Arbeitman and his family receive health, vision and dental insurance, although the contract doesn't indicate how much is paid by the district

This is exactly why it makes me mad when they go to the taxpayers crying for more money to improve the district, but if you say anything, the first thing out of people's mouths are "You don't support our kids!" Well yes I support them, take a look at what my real estate and personal property taxes are giving to the district and then they want more. I think it is crazy what these superintendents make, yes they have alot of responsibility, but these salaries are crazy, up in the St. Louis districts some are making over 200,000 per year PLUS benefits!! check out kmov 4 st louis website!

I don't believe he has even earned that salary. He is snotty and superficial. He believes he is above everyone else and so does his wife. What really is sad is his daughter that breaks ALL the rules set by him at the schools.

People who have Master's degrees get paid better. Deal with it!

Just because you have a Master's degree does not make you better than the people who brought you here. I believe that you should be respectful for every opportunity you are given in life and that is what we as a community should see. I have a degree and I don't believe I am better than you or anyone else on here so no I will not get over it. I have children here in the school district and I think it is a shame to see someone in that position act the way his ENTIRE family does. Shame on them!!!!!!!!!!

Did you go to this school as well, since MEANTIME used in that context is all one word. Also, calling graduates "retards" is moronic and I'd bet YOU couldn't pass half the courses they have taken.

I really don't care if he has 3 degrees, we are common working class people in this town,(most of us anyway) and work hard for our money, and I cannot see why he should be paid that much for a town of our size.

Your opinion of his family is just that, your opinion. Unfortunately, a persons salary doesn't reflect their personality. They are paid according to their experience, education, credentials, etc. Obviously, he's doing his job or he wouldn't still have it.

So it's his fault that he makes a good salary? Would you turn the money away if you were offered that salary? My husband actually brings home a little more than that a year and he just has a high school diploma. If you want better for yourself, then do something about it and stop being so envious of others.

Guest,
You don't know the first thing about me. So don't even get into a conversation your brain could not handle. My OPINION is my OPINION and it is not ENVY by far. I have always made six figures and I can tell you my children would never act the way his do. Also, I know for a fact that he has double standards on many rules here in Desoto so I can only hope you and your six figure high school diploma husband don't cross him. Also, just because he still has his job doesn't mean he is doing well at it. I guess you really don't care about our education here in Desoto so for that shame on you. This is about our children and not about our incomes. So get over yourself ( I mean your husband's).

Actually, I have a Bachelor's degree. I don't make six figures, but I do well for myself. As far as "wrapping my brain around your conversation", I don't think that will be an issue. My children do attend De Soto schools and we've had no problems thus far, with teachers nor administration. My children receive excellent grades and conduct reports. So now, I need to "get over myself" because my family makes a good living? Would this even be an issue if Andy made 30k a year?

If it's not about income, why did you feel the need to share yours? Just sayin'.
