I really enjoy Mr. Metz's columns. However, it seems that a lot of what he writes about is just repackaged over and over as this column is. We have read these events numerous times before. Please write about events we haven't heard of.

I think there are plenty of folks that appreciate what gents like Metz or Morales or Romo provide us with regarding our area history, however, it sure bugs me that not enough seems to be done regarding preserving our oldest of buildings and making them part of our tourism offerings.
Why did we tear down the old brick 1800's building across the library downtown? Why is our city NOT aggressively chasing after ARRA funding that puts our people to work reconditioning our historic buildings downtown and in central? Why are we not aggressively incorporating our historic districts (Sunset, Austin, and Manhattan) onto El Paso's tourism platform and sponsoring more local walking tours that highlight our robust (and sometimes chaotic) history? Just thoughts and dreams, really... Like most of you, Ive grown up in El Paso, left El Paso for a couple decades, moved around the country and realized that no single city's history west of the Mississippi is nearly as rich as our own. |
