Next week the drunks will start circulating a petition to get alcohol sales in De Leon again. Can't these imbeciles see that the people of De Leon don't want it? Guess they'll never give up! Looks like the TABC finally shut that foreign guys bar down, he should'a stayed in the motel business.

Don't you get that alcohol will be in De Leon whether it is sold there or not???? When Erath County started selling alcohol, DUI's and other alcohol related arrests went down significantly. I can find the quote from the law enforcement if you would like.
The reason these arrests went down is because people only had to drive a mile or so to pick it up. Therefore, they waited to imbibe until they were in their own home. When you ask that they drive 10+ miles one way to get it, they apparently can't wait until they get home to drink it (sad, but true).
Take the tax revenue. People are actually less likely to drink and drive when the beer store is a block away from their home. Yes, they will still drink as much but no, they won't drink more than they currently do.

I sense sarcasm. I'm just pointing out the result of the sale of wine and beer in Erath County. It makes sense.
You can't legislate morality. Prohibition taught us that most of those that will drink will do so even if it's illegal. For those that obeyed the law, well, they weren't the problem anyway...

We are not drunks. We are just tired of giving money to other towns instead of keeping it in De Leon. The only reason other people doesn't want it here is because they are use to going out of town to buy it where they want get seen .

Oh, by the way...I don't think I called those that want alcohol sold in De Leon "drunks". There is nothing wrong with consuming alcohol as long as you're not bothering anyone else, your bills are paid, your kids are well taken care of, etc...

Here we go again; get over it people.
The fact is it will bring in more tax money which will help De Leon. A drunk is a drunk they are going to get their fix no matter how they go about it. All any one has to do is run down to IGA or Dollar General and grab some cough syrup, midol, vanilla extract, mouth wash and so fourth.

A clever shuffling of paperwork and a few loopholes has kept the bar open.

As a person who has lived here since 1976 I can pretty well tell you that the ones who are gonna drink are gonna go get it no matter where they have to go. Just the other day I had to run to Comanche to pick up some stuff for work and yes I did stop at a store and pickup beer, guess if De Leon sold it I could have waited til I closed for the day and stopped off at local store and bought my cigarettes and beer at the same time, and yes I do own a bussiness in this town.

So, if the town could use the money, and they're gonna get it anyway, then why not sell heroine-it would make the city a lot more dough re me.

Vote yes to change the ordinance. Have it read only in certain areas. There are 2 different grand stands at the tractor pull arena make one wet, one dry.
