I am confused as to why a commissioner would want to in-debt the county knowing full well that we can't afford it. When they are replaced they still have to live here. After all they will be a regular person longer than they will be a commissioner.
why not

Once they are out of office they will have attained money and assets that a $50 a year wheel tax or a few cents increase per hundred dollars property tax that it will not matter. You know that after Leon Sneed left office the county spend over 3 years dealing with lawsuits in court that were and still are kept quiet. Same on the city level. By placing the county in debt is like sending another person's son to a war zone, it doesn't directly effect them. Just now you are hearing of how a school board member who is a co-owner of a company that got a big bid job on that new school and even with that everyone says it isn't even an ethics violation or conflict. We average people best wise up and stop voting for these G/D lying SOBs. No matter what happens a whole lot of people can't just pack up and move just because we don't like what is going on. Maybe attitude adjustments might be in order.

What a bunch of whining babies y'all are.

1. Raise property tax
2. Add a wheel tax
3. Add a sales tax
4. Cut spending

It's called progress.

do they care how many elderly people, will lose their homes, and how many will lose their vehicles cause they cant afford a wheeltax, cause insurance is sky high. also lets look on the renters side.as a home owner, renters pay more then home owners pay all together.also if they get 50.00 wheel tax, again the renters will get the biggest increase over all.lets say renter pays 500.00 a month. a year thats 6000.00 a year, plus their electric, plus etc.home owner taxes say 400.00 a year, thats a long ways from 6000.00. each time theres a tax increase, renters rent goes up.over all its a slap in the face of the renters.also ones on fixed income.look at convient centers in rhea county.morgantown convient center will be the only site, collecting scarp medal plastic, cardboard boxes . while the rest get to continue saving theirs and getting paid to run the convient center.again, this is not good news for morgantown convient center helpers.why not save all convient centers, scrap plastic and cardboard, and pay the helpers so much out of gathering the items to resale.if your going to do one site this away, then do the entire county the same way.again GEORGE, you do not know how to treat all convient center helpers equal.treat all the same way. i encourage all to attend the commisioner meeting dec 18th at the courthouse. not certain what time it is. call courthouse they should know. i hope news media is there to cover the commissioners, and the crowd

Not that any of you broke whiners work but the auto parts plant in the industrial park is expanding and the company is investing several million into their facility and employees to come. Get off the dope get off your ass and get exercise get yourself cleaned up and after you're presentable for 6 months you can get a job for once.

And FYI, that plant would not be expanding if it weren't for the commission and council working at it.

The auto parts plant is on 'Oster Hill', but your other points are right on.

They would whine if you gave them the 50 wheel tax. They dont realize that that tax will keep the county commission from raising property taxes. It also allows industry to be able to expand in the county. The real problem was created years ago when times were good and the penny pinching county commission would cut taxes just to look good and say that we have the lowest tax rate around. They never thought to think for a rainy day. Well its now pouring and there's holes in the roof.

Yep, or expanding due to the government bailout that saved the auto industry. The council nor the commissioners can't take credit for what the auto industries do. Had the giant auto makers went bankrupt then no American cars would be made. No cars made must equal "no auto parts" (primarily mirrors at that plant) would be made thus it would probably had closed. Even the hype of Volkswagen bring an outpouring of jobs to Rhea County was essentially a farce. Absent you being able to show me how the city or county like this one has any impact upon anything other than borrowing and spending or using tax payer money to subsidize 100% funding to put a person into his own business, then I disagree with your comment. I also disagree that every person that has no job is some sort of drug addict. Although, I do agree that drugs in this county are probably about as bad as any other rural, cultural poverty stricken county in this state. The jail has become a place of housing drug addicts under $75,000 cash bonds. Good business for bail bondsmen bad business for those of us that all chip in to feed and house them. The county would be better off using that training facility in Evensville as a minimum security holding facility for PRETRIAL detainees. Again I say, the courts have well settled the law that a person charged and detained for a crime is not to be treated in any manner as a convicted inmate. Maybe what county funds could be scraped up could focus on solutions instead of pretending they are fattening up cattle to sell for a profit.

But ultimately, as you say, people do need to get off their ass, get cleaned up, shave, get some motivation and in the least go apply anywhere that has a "Now Hiring" sign. I figure me and you are headed in the same direction, just headed that way on our particular path. See ya.

I wouldn't whine if a $50 wheel tax is imposed. What I whine about is the excessive spending. The county some years back started a county maintenance facility. Patrol cars could easily have their life extend 2 years if not more just by mandatory maintenance. Ipads, cell phones, cars issued, free drive home cars, driving those cars far beyond what law provides, special deals and many more things I could sit down and write a book that would be fully sourced. A wheel tax today is just a band-aid for tomorrow. If these guys cannot or will not stop pandering to those few 'select people" and learn to represent everyone then they need removed from office. But that will not ever happen and they know it. All this talk of drugs, jail overcrowding, budget shortages makes me think the media around here are not telling us the whole story. If Rhea County is on the brink of zombie styled criminals running rampant, I would at least like to know. So my vote is NO WHEEL TAX, NO PROPERTY TAX increase and control spending by streamlining and saving money just as we all do.

LMAO let me ask you one thing. why did your great commissioners vote to build the new football field, knowing that we needed a new jail and new highschool? this is a slap in the face to all of rhea county, including yourself.also when do the convient store owners ever pay their share? 7 years free taxes free etc.i agree when one person mentioned so much own all electric bills. that makes a great idea that would work.as for drugs lets face it its all over the world. only getting worse
bust 5 today in the morning 10 more will start.i blaim all of this on our commissioners. they know i am right.each trip to nashville they grab a hotel room, who pays for this?? TAX PAYERS. also their eats their drinks

what about our county mayor. when he took office how much did he really know about running this county??
to show you one big mistake hes made. if you were going to collect all scrap medal all plastic bottle all cardboard. for county to resale and make money. wouldnt you do this at EVERY CONVIENT CENTER,AND NOT JUST ONE? only convient center thats going to save scrap medal and cardboard and plastic,is the MORGANTOWN CENTER,at the foot of the mtn.

Why is that? Why that particular site? This is a first for me on this issue. I thought all that recycling program that flopped years back was over. So does that site produce a profit for the county?

If not, when then the expense to bother with it.

If yes, then why not do them all and pull in some serious cash.
