Is anyone else concerned that Theresa Snyder's brother is running for Circuit Court Clerk and she will be in charge of running the election? I think that out of respect for the county (if indeed she has any) she should be asked to step down from her position TEMPORARILY until this election is over.

Great solution but there is a fatal flaw. The flaw is JUST ABOUT EVERYONE IS RELATED TO EVERYONE ELSE AROUND HERE. Hell, I am related to the Sneeds!!! But will I vote or have anything to do with them? NO. But in the context of your comment, her brother is "close kin". Also, her father Ray Ballard volunteers and helps the elderly election workers where all sorts of things slip by them. Ray as may can attest, in the last election would actuallt stand over your shoulder and watch how you voted. He then would turn, look out the big window at the welcome center and make a jesture. That wasn't given much attention until Bob Vincent was seen sitting in his truck which was BACKED IN the parking lot (only vehicle parked that way) where he had a clear eyeshot at that window. May have been nothing but if it had been nothing I never would have noticed it.
Also, when will the Herald News tell us when it's time to qualify? A couple elections they never reported the dates so do we all need to call the election commission and ask? If so, we do NOT need a skull and bones nevergonnabe newspaper here. Hell, if someone dies i can call all the funeral homes. If someone has something to buy, sell or trade I'll check craigslist.com

Right, these two are close. Is it even possible to rig an election? Maybe not? But if it is a close election and she runs it, and someone looses to him by 10 or less votes they will ask for a recount. Does anyone know how much this could cost the county? Just some questions. As far as the deadlines not being in the paper it is a state law that they are supposed to be in the paper as far as I know. Mr. Ballard did work for the election commission. You can go to finance and pull financial records to see his pay (compared to what others made) back from when Mrs. Snyder ran the election commission the first time. I was one he stood over and he actually said "you got the dot on the wrong name, I know you're not going to vote for him!" And during the city election he was complaining when I went in to vote that someone from the election commission made him close the curtains!

This is a governmental ethics law. Local level conflict of interest needs to go to the district attorney or the attorney general's office by criminal complaint.Specific types of activities that are within the statutory jurisdiction of the Ethics Commission and this is one. The Election Commission knows that this is the law.

This sounds right on target but my question is "Does this apply in Rhea County"? You cannot walk into the circuit courts office and even have a criminal summons issued against an elected official. The clerk will look stupid at you. They then will call the DA just to inquire as to what "they should do". They are told some bogus crap that a criminal summons cannot be issued. You then challenge that but the clerk insists you are a nuisance and suggest you to leave. You then walk over and attempt to talk to Will Dunn who acts like you are the invisible man.

I'm surprised he hasn't lost his law license or worse, just in part by the way he talks down to people. As I said, times are hard. Officials should be aware of how bad people are hurting financially. When the day comes when they must choose between sleeping in the cold under a bridge or a comfy jail cell, their ass may opt for going to jail and do all they can to stay there and cost the county as much money as they can.
They can all start a new TV series called the "Six Million Dollar Prisoners".

People must admit that there being a paper that prints only twice a week is not effective in keeping folks informed of important upcoming events with ample notice. Not to mention people need reminded of events coming up because they are busy. What would be wrong with announcing it more than once at such short notice and running the information every publication a whole month before something important like this comes up. Such as an election, commision meetings, council meetins, special called meetings. I for one would appreciate more notice and a reminder before the event. Also, the way they print their stories is somwhat odd at times with timing and all. For instance, the front page story about porn being found on a PC at the election commission office and then there is never a follow up. This is just one time when the paper will print part of a story and then pfft nothing else. I'm sorry, but half of 100 stories does not a story make. They are incomplete and inaccurate a lot of the time in their stories in my opinion.

I agree news junkie. Seems as though it is convienant for some. Maybe these stories never have a follow up because there was never really a story to begin with! My question is why would Mrs. Snyder bring these things up after she had been in office for this long of a time? Perhaps she had no motive, but where was the REPUBLICAN paper when Mrs Snyder was in the election commission yelling at the young lady at the desk to the point 911 had to be called to have her removed (only after smacking this girl in the face with a newspaper) Point is, a newspaper only tells what they want told. My true concern isn't with the paper, but rather her conducting an election while her brother is participating in.

Question ? Is there a law or is it just unethical for a sitting election commissioner to physically campaign for a candidate prior to primary elections ?

Even though the election is over, your point is a valid one. There should be some sort of rule in force for this in the future because what if he were to win? I am sure the relative of a winning candidate nor the candidate would want to come under fire if they happened to win. At least I wouldn't. Kind of goes along with things like contests, if you are an employee or relative of an employee you are not eligible for the prize, or back in the good days, if you had family members already employed somewhere, no relatives were eligible to apply. Then again, this county seems to have back doors and dark alleys to every necessary means to get what the chosen few really want. Just my take on it. Some will like it, some won't but that's okay. It's not personal, it's the principle of the matter.

No he didn't win. I'm not so suprised seeing as the whole family are jerks. Yes, I would insinuate that she is dishonest. Maybe someone should ask her about the things she stole the first time she left office, or how she paid her father much more then any other worker (PUBLIC RECORD) Mad because Democrats don't have control anymore? How childish. You are about as gay as they come Corey Lester.

There seems to be a concern in ref to our election administrator, when we also, I reiterate also need to look at the election commissioners who are out physically campaigning for candidates prior to the primary elections. Are these issues illegal? maybe not, but the perception does make both Republicans and Democrats look unethical being there are members of both parties appointed to the election commission.
