State Rep. Jim Cobb is set to go to trial Tuesday to face allegations of assault stemming from an Election Day incident during the primaries on Aug. 2.

Sounds like some local politicians are sweating bullets. I'll be attending this trial sitting front and center. Come on down!

I have Jim's, well actually, Suzanne'a cell number. I could call and see what the scoop is. But why. They have my number, they can call me.

If I were Jim, I would be very careful. The "system" has chosen to use the "Grand Jury" power to "indict" Jim Cobb. I have had people indicted before but that is a different story. He can be found guilty easy because jury panels are selected using the old "fish bowl" methods. Maybe they don't now, but they sure as hell used to. The problem is "are those names secret"? My best answer is NO. Somebody must know the names, therefore they are not secret. Then a new civic lesson about "integrity" comes into play...

If I were in Cobb's position and who opted for a public trial, of all things, deciding to "fight" this thing with a public eye on it, then I would have so many eyes on my trial to the point that people would be scared to go downtown because they'd be on TV. Why not? Let's have a parade. Go all out. Name names. No telling what he has on audio record lol. We all forgot about that one.

My bet is Jim Cobb has probably retained a high dollar lawyer that will rip whoever that women in a damn wheelchair(notice how everyone has jumped her ship btw) and she will be torn to shreds with what amounts to a false allegations. Defamation, false allegations upon a current (at that time he was a sitting state rep) and a host of things can cause problems. I wouldn't doubt some sort of a "Ben Matlock" episode of some kind. She may end up on the "Oh' Shit" wagon.

My reasoning in this: "why" would he not plead out a deal, be done with it. Nice and quiet.

Surely to goodness he has a degree of clout, a degree of Republican Party support. Numbers. He has favors owed, right? Like I say, this will be interesting and someone should go to that trial and listen, take notes and report it back to the rest of us. Not me. I won't.

I have better things to do than worry how a former state representative who is being essentially ass raped before the public by the defunct Herald-News of all things. Those dudes are the only ones bringing it all up, trying to direct attention on Cobb's trial, trying to sell a few newspapers. without ever changing their circulation numbers. Now the term FRAUD come to mind.

Never a Grand Jury around when ya need one is there :)

Jim has hired Howard Upchurch and Justin Angel from Pikeville. They are both very aggressive attorneys. The trial should be entertaining.

Cobb found not guilty of assault

A jury of six women and six men found State Rep. Jim Cobb not guilty of assault on Tuesday.

After nearly one hour of deliberation, the jury returned the not guilty verdict, acquitting Cobb of an assault charge stemming from an alleged Aug. 2 election day incident at the Frazier polling location where a woman in a wheel chair claimed she was afraid of being assaulted.

The woman who was a supporter of Cobb's GOP primary opponent, Ron Travis, had accused Cobb of causing her to fear bodily harm during an incident at the polling place. People around the court house were reportedly laughing and poking jokes at the woman when a small doggie barked at her that startled her. A good samaritan offered to call the Animal Control officer to have the poochie jailed at the kennel to await indictment by the Grand Jury who, according to sources, indicted a bologna sandwich last week.

A year or three ago these same people who tried to have cobb on trial for these trumped up charges were falling all over themselves to brown nose him and kiss his butt. Cobb, welcome to rhea county home of the users. When they use you all up they are ready to dump you at the landfill or in your case jail. They should be the ones arrested. Watch out Travis they will turn on your pearly whites just as fast as they tricked and plotted to get you in office.

Not guilty. Nuff said. The truth plus good lawyers equals acquittal.

Complete 100% AMAN on that one my friend. Travis will be all "smily" loving the attention of thinking that "big people" think of him as "part of the club" ...welcome to my parlor said the spider. If Travis would be a true representative for the people, he could change this county, perhaps his entire district which we know is largely rural. But you spoke the truth of the Spirit of things that Will Come.

Actually, in my opinion, the truth and 50 cents gets you a cup of coffee. Money and a good, "done sold their soul" lawyer get's them acquitted.

One thing about it Travis may never know the down side because he seems to be a yes man. That is why he got put in office to begin with. Take an unfriendly pretty boy and put him in a position like that? Unbelievable.
Hope he does what they want because can assure you they wanted something and you were right it is like a soul to the devil.
