Final election results in; Neal wins in landslide

The ballots were all tallied by 10 p.m. Thursday night in the Rhea County general election.

Democratic incumbent Mike Neal won the sheriff's race by a landslide, tallying 61.28 percent of the votes. In all, Neal garnered 5,450 votes to Republican Mike Snee's 3,313 votes and Independent Jerry Lawrence's 130 votes.

Businessman George Thacker edged out incumbent Billy Ray Patton in a tight race for county executive by just under 300 votes. Thacker received 4,340 votes to Patton's 4,044, while Rodney Adams got 245 votes.

The circuit court clerk race was won by Democrat Jamie Holloway with 4,810 votes, while Republican Pam Peavyhouse received 3,642 votes.

In the county commission races, Ron Masterson won District 1, defeating Lidge Godsey 503 to 409. Jim Reed won District 2, beating Charles Moore III 514 to 430. Grover Parks won District 3 by less than a dozen ballots, tallying 415 votes to James Campbell's 404. Tom Smith won District 4 with 571 votes to Charles Hurst's 308 and Billy Gardner's 151. District 6 was won by Doyle Montgomery with 340 votes to Rick Brady's 270.

Bill Davault won the lone contested school board race in District 9, defeating Andy Beene 416 to 370.

Reba Murphy and Terry Smith were elected to the Spring City Commission.

In state and federal primaries, 3,467 Rhea Countians voted for Zach Wamp for the Republican governer's seat, while 2,046 supported Bill Haslam. Ron Ramsey received 330 votes.

John Wolfe won the Democratic primary for the 3rd Congressional District seat with 492 votes, while Robin Smith won the Republican primary among Rhea County voters with 1,717 votes, followed closely by Chuck Fleischman with 1,630 votes and Tim Gobble with 1,135.

The front page of the Herald News Paper should say "Rhea County Says No Need For Sneed" I think that would be the perfect headline!!!
