You will see a very modest increase to your property tax but business owned property will be exempted. Business property can argue correctly that their property generates revenue. Private property does not. You tax increase will be rather small which will cause most mouthy people to be hush-hush and the average Joe around here just gripe about it but pay the increase anyway. As for renters that pay, or section 8 or project people, they will pay a wheel tax along with everyone else. The real problem with this whole thing is it isn't fair to the private home owner. They will pay an increase plus have to pay the wheel tax. Business owners will stay the same and the owners pay a wheel tax and the renters will not pay no property tax and will pay a wheel tax. So if you own a business or commercial property, you can smile as your buddies at the commission will take care or you and themselves as several of them own or have an interest in business property. This will go to Nashville just as soon as Travis gets his marching orders.

excuse me. i think that you need to look further about the renters.renters each time theres any type of taxes. the landlords increase the rent to pay the taxes.say the landlord owns 30 rentals. on each rental taxes increase 5.00 each month total 60.00 a year more. ok landlord goes up 12.00 more each month on their rent. in a year the renters paying 120.00 more the landlords out 60.00 landlord gains 60.00 more on their other taxes. now who pays most renter or landlord. answer is simple renters open ur eyes up. if you disgree go to the property tax office look it up. then come back say whos right and whos wrong.

so now lets also figure up 30 rentals 5 times 30 is 150.00 each month. times 150.00 times 12. then you times 60.00 times 12 months. thats 720.00 a year on each rental the landlord makes by increasing rent. so lets times 30 times 60.1800.00 more each year the landlord makes on rentals. sure i see why landlords want the tax increase. so that many others will be forced into saling their homes and rent some wheres.one county goverment. one group of landlords owning most of the homes. i thank RONNIE RAPER. for standing beside the poor here in rhea county. at least he shows moral respect on this issue. i hope all other commissioners truely wake up. and remember election will come around.

People would probably not be so mad if they did not see all the waste in the county and city. Most of it is greed from county and city officials who want for themselves as long as it does not come from their wallets.Stay home, save money, stop buying yourselves computers and we will all be happier. We don't owe you anything. We pay you a salary for your service. Pull out your wallet and buy your own food.

the county shud make us all give dna samples and cut food stamps to any person that is over weight, confiscate cars and sell them for quik cash for the county from those wih no lisences and insurance, let all those mexicans in jail go but sneek them out in vans and drive them to georgia and dump them off, we need papers to show like nazi did and let the police shoot us on site if we dont show our papers. pass a wheel tax and force poeple to pay 25 a wheel and leve the businesses alone because we need them for taxs. vote george thacker for our next governer.

Insider,I believe you are slightly incorrect. We will have a property tax OR a wheel tax but not both. That is not to say that a property tax increase won't eventually happen, but those increases are regulated by the state.

As a non-property owner I think a wheel tax would be the most fair option as it touches nearly everyone. A property tax excludes a large portion of our population.

What do you all think about a jail expansion or justice center?

good grief

Justice center would be the best choice. The courthouse, once it was certified as a historical building has become a tourist attraction, therefore in my opinion, needs to be just that. I for one, would not want to be down there visiting with my children on court day when they herd the prisoners in with orange stripe jumpsuits, in handcuffs and leg chains. We have drug dealers, child molesters, and murderers filing through there! What kind of security do we actually have down there. Get it away from the courthouse that we take so much pride in. If the commissioners would get their heads out of their a**es they would see this. They are nothing but a bunch of power whores who will do whatever it takes and spend however much of our tax dollars they need just to make sure that the justice center does not go on Louallens property. He has pissed them off by making Hollin, Vincent and Raper stop squandering our money away, and this is pay back time for them. To them, it is not at matter of the best place to put it, they will put it anywhere but where it needs to be. And we are letting them get away with it once again. Ask any one of them how much they are going to have to give Kinslow for his corner lot just to have parking. Bottom line is that they will spend one million more to keep it in town as an eyesore and security problem than do the right thing to this county.
i disagree

the one that says a wheeltax is best since a property tax excludes a large portion of the people. anytime theres ever been a property tax increase, the renters have always paid for it. and then some.renters pay more taxes then anyone else,if you disagree just go ask renters what happens each time theres a tax increase.they will tell you their rent goes up more then what tax increase was.i also say 25 cents on each lightbill would be best interest for all . this way city of graysville city of dayton, city of springcity. each would be paying a share of the new jail and a share of the taxes.as well as new school, since all city kids go to highschool, after grammer school
