Are we seriously looking at this Doug guy with his criminal behaviors as a possible member of the BOE? OK, so he gets it thrown out of court on a technicality. Smart guy to wait out the courts, but is he someone we want making decisions for children? His decision when upset with a bank clerk is to behave in a way that resulted in police help? I guess he can join the fiscally responsible bankrupt member and the one who is removing Holtrey to put his best friend in the coaching position. I cannot hardly believe I am saying this but the other two are looking like the lesser of evils. Keep the socially bankrupt out of the BOE and find someone who children can look up to.

Is this who you want investigating possible corruption, theft or deception by the Boosters and Coaches? Do you want an experienced investigator, or an experienced deceiver?

There is an audit going on.....at the school, for the coaches.
The Springboro Police are looking at the Boosters. Do we trust the SPD to investigate? Are they capable, qualified and honest? Do they have a financial specialist? They couldn't even catch their own zoning clerk, who probably took a lot more than the $2,000 they were able to find missing.
And, Mr. Wiedemann was not the only one asking questions for the past three or more years. Many parents wanted to know where the money for all the fundraising was going, since there were never any new uniforms, equipment, etc. for the sports teams. And, those who were at the first pay to play meeting remember Troy being unable to answer how he came up with the pay to play amount.
Was Very Concerned about Troy being unable to answer how he came up with the pay to play amount at the first pay to play meeting;
Still Very Concerned about Troy being unable to act like a responsible grown up! Not a "good sport" role model for our school children and community members.

What a shame for the kids of springboro. We now have a school system ran by people who all they care about is their own agenda. If you question them they attack you personally and proffesionaly. What I witnessed last week at the school board meeting left me feeling for our kids. I saw a BOE that had no idea how to handle any questions. I saw a grown man run around the back of the room looking and trying to listen to every conversation. I guess so he could report back to BOE. I also saw well respected people treated like dirt. I have seen on this message board people bashed for their faith, I have seen the Police Chief accused of hiding stuff with no evidince. Now I read Mr. Widemann is going to be the person who is going to be appointed to the board. Lets look at his background.
The sky bank ordeal goes with out saying. Noone hase mentioned him being banned for SCYBA for throwing a baseball at a teenage umpire during a little league baseball game. Both of those set great examples for the kids. I havent heard of Holtry or any other coach in our system do anything like that.
I didnt see him stick up for the Cook Family Fund on this message board after someone questioned it. Even though he has donated and has been involved with it since the begining. He must have been afraid to admit to that. Since one of the BOE croonies brought up some questions. It is just a shame that our kids our in a system now that is run by people who care more about saving a dollar than our kids education.

I find it odd that three full days have passed and we are yet to see anyone refute or offer an alternative view of Mr. Holtrey's behavior and actions during his tenure as Athletic Director. Instead we are all treated to a kill the messenger campaign. While I personally find it highly entertaining, it is as if there is no explanation and the facts stand as they are. Thus, the next best thing is to attack everyone else. These people must think this community is comprised of fools.

The questions remain, how did so much take place on Mr. Holtrey's watch; the looting of the Boosters, the failure of the Boosters to file the appropriate tax returns, the scam that was pay to play. All the while Mr. Holtrey seemingly did nothing in his power to protect those in his charge? Mr. Holtrey knew what the tax laws were according to what he recited to me. Mr. Holtrey also had to know how much the Boosters were raising year in and year out. Again, this is a man who had been intimately involved in all aspects of the athletic program for nearly two decades. As a successful head basketball coach in a small town he enjoyed unrivaled access and esteem in the athletic circles and the community at large. Why did he not use that high regard for the benefit of those he was charged to protect?

In the end this is not about myself, nor Mr. Holtrey, it is about how we choose to move forward as a community. Will we return to a past where those in charge enjoyed the authority of their position but eschewed the responsibility? Will we enjoy the spectacle of watching another Booster official being inducted into our Hall of Fame as their house of cards collapses? The time has come to move out of the shadows and into the future. A future where everyone can see what is going on with the simple click of a mouse. Questions about the Boosters? Go to their website and find the names of the officers, by-laws, financial records, goals and objectives, budgets, and what the new plans are for the coming season. Open things up and let us encourage the good people to take a more active role. It grows old watching the same 15-20 people occupy every organization in town. It is also not a good fiduciary practice to have one person serve as Treasurer for every club or organization in town. Having 5 thousand eyes as opposed to 1 or 2 watching a program tends to keep the shenanigans to a minimum.

I myself belong to no organizations, yet I support many with my time, energy, and resources. By and large you get to meet many interesting people with a diverse set of opinions. I personally enjoy listening to what others have to say and debating those points. If someone has a better idea, I run with that one, but you better to be able to back it up with something more substantial than your feelings. My goal is always to find the best solution to a problem.

It may surprise some that I am for the levy renewal that will certainly be on the ballot next spring. A careful examination of the data the budget and finance committee gathered reveals no way to fix a hole that big in the finances no matter how creative we become.

We all basically want the same things, how we decide to get there really becomes the only question.

And as a side note, I have stuck up for the Cook Family Fun Day, you can ask Dale Brunner about that one. They are a great organization with their hearts as well as their financial controls in place. They work and give tirelessly to the community in memory of our good friend Bob Cook. If you want a template on how to do things right, look no further than Mr. Brunner and his cohorts.

Well that explains why the current majority BOE took on Mr. Holtrey. Their little pit bull got his feelings hurt a couple of years ago.
Tenacious, strong, courageous, and focused. Not hardly. Pit bulls are some of the dumbest animals around. Can be easily trained to be vicious because they don't have the intellectual power to know what is going on and will bite anyone or anything when told to do so.
Those of us who wathched the WDTN news Friday evening NOW know that our current majority BOE are moving forward doing what's right for our school children and community; AND, Springboro families and taxpaying homeowners know there will be NO REVERSING vote to continue status quo business as usual.

Kelly Kohls was the lone voice voting NO to the 2010 proposed "fifth" school levy based on a fake budget crisis holding parents (and our children's education) hostage over things like busing and activities fees. This BOE 4-1 vote against Dr. Kohls (whose comments to the board suggested "listening to the community members who had already said four times "no new taxes) restored confidence in each one of us to "simply do the right thing" every time you have opportunity and you will always be a winner - no matter which way the "vote" goes.

The "now uncovered" unethical and illegal practices of the athletics boosters fundraising business is the REAL embarrassment in our school district/city/township.
Truth is, since being elected as school board representative, had Kelly Kohls NOT stood firmly on strong principles doing what's right for our school children and community, the tough questions on this pay to play issues would never have been asked.
It always takes resistance to the forces against us to increase our strength to just keep on doing the right thing; even when it isn't the popular or easy thing to do. But, that's just the kind of good person and public servant that IS Kelly Kohls!
The personal attacks on our BOE elected official, Kelly Kohls, by those who oppose doing what's right for our school children and community, have served to her good out of what was meant to harm her!
Kelly's spark of warm-hearted interest in "children first" has educated Springboro school district voters to elect in November 2011, two new school board representatives, David Petroni and Jim Rigano, which formed our current BOE majority's new philosophy. he board's new philosophy of transparency in children first budgeting has now rooted out the old status quo "business as usual" agenda of previously BOE elected officials.
In the best interest of our children's future and A Brighter Day in our community, during a recent school board meeting, David Petroni (board budget/finance committee chairman) expressed appreciation to Kelly Kohls for asking the questions during
the two years that she was the "lone" voice in a 4-1 BOE vote.
Kelly Kohls was the only board member voting against putting a fifth school levy on the ballot; commenting that the “board should listen to the community members who had already failed four levy requests for new money.” Thank you, Kelly, for respecting Springboro families and taxpaying homeowners and Thank you for listening!.
How can Springboro families and taxpaying homeowners express our thanks and appreciation to Kelly Kohls, David Petroni, and Jim Rigano for the long hours of tireless service of the budget/finance/policy/evaluati on committee work?
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
Very Much Worth Repeating! Thank You for all your achievements which are very much acknowledged and appreciated by Springboro families and taxpaying homeonwers.

Did anyone else hear about a bag of cash basketball game gate receipts that was lost? Was this ever reported to the BOE by anyone? Did anyone else hear how those seniors, some star BB players, got into the building the night they pulled the senior prank that led to several students being arrested? These are rumors I have heard and I am asking if anyone else has heard them?

Thanks Mr Weideman for standing up.

To understand the ego of the Springboro Three not even following the "policies" they're so quick to quote...just look at the school board website. It already shows kohls as the president!!?! They have yet to vote to accept Anderson's resignation or vote in a new president. Yes as vp, kohls is the acting president, but to already state she's the president on the schools website the next day?? How arrogant!!!

The real embarrassment of it all is that previous to our elected BOE majority members; the school board members and the school administrators NEVER quoted their school policies in public meetings; nor did they abide by our school board policies and our boosters board policies. But, IF they had done so (as our current BOE majority members always do) then our boosters officials would not be in this financial mess now under scrutiny.

The embarrassment of it all is ...the financial abuse of those previously elected board representatives and school district administrators, who ran a continuous stream of school levies based on a fake budget crisis, holding our parents (and kids) hostage over things like busing and activities fees.

Fact is.... our school tax dollars for "our kids education" is NOT to be spent on sports activities; but invested in our children's future. When the school board and the boosters board work together, each performing their own role working in a unified direction, our athletic programs will flourish.
Our goal for our schools athletic program is that the boosters fundraising business operated by coaches and volunteers (under the supervision of the AD whose salary IS paid by taxpayers) has been operating for several years under a "business as usual" system, that is now known to violate ethical and legal laws.

This "accountability system" holds the Board representatives responsible for holding the Superintendent accountable to supervise the Athletic Directors handling of the schools athletic program. We know now that this did not happen at least during the years of previous elected officials (Anderson; Miller; Colston/Ellis; Kruse; Trifaro/Thomsen) during which time "our
children's education" was served by former school administrators (Baker/Dettwiller/Long/Holtrey ; Lolli/Beavers).
It was only one lone BOE member elected in November 2009 who stood up and spoke up as an elected official "representing our childrens best interest first". And it only took that spark of warm hearted interest in doing what's right for our school children and community that has encouraged Springboro families and taxpaying homeowners to cast our vote for transparency in our school budget and fairness in our kids pay to play fees.
Our current BOE majority is the right leadership for our children's education;
